+2 votesThe quality of Julius Marlow shoes has gone out the window in the past few years. I've had 3 pairs fall apart on me in the past year alone and 1 Verde(sister brand) in the year prior. No exaggeration. Bits fall off, stitching coming apart, soles wearing out very early, leather cracking(yes I do maintain them). Whereas my JM shoes from 2006 when they used to be quality shoes(faux wood sole) - I just threw them out a few months ago. Now it's just the usual Chinese crap. It's a pity they've flooded the usual retail stores with their brands and unfortunately I haven't found an alternative at this price point. Buyer beware.
+2 votesAgreed - I'm never buying Julius Marlow again. I've owned mine less than 12 months and the leather is coming apart of the left shoe. I'm undecided on whether to try for a repair or just bin them and get something else.
I'm in some other shoes today that I wouldn't usually pair with a suit!
+2 votesI used to like JM as a reasonably priced business shoe - years since I've had them though, sad to hear they are going the way of some other brands.
I've owned various italian business shoes - some last, some don't price is no great indicator (all of them $200+).The best quality/lasting shoes I've had were lloyds (http://www.lloyd-shoes.com/) - they're made in germany. Whilst they'll cost you a bit, if you aren't rough on them they'll last for a decade, and then you can re-sole them and keep going. BTW show repair/cobblers are a great source - for which shoes last/don't and how well they are made.
I'm not easy on my shoes and prefer lighter ones these days. Hush puppies have been working out well lately, an they are mid priced.
Thaal Sinestro on 22/05/2012 - 13:40 ¶Where does one acquire Lloyd shoes from? There are hardly any available on Ebay Uk or US. They have some nice designs in their PDF catalogue. A link to a discount online store would be good. I want to support the German econonomy - they need help propping up Greece. German products are almost always quality.

Pathetic quality. I recently went to buy 2 pairs from Harris Scrafes when they had them last on specially. Thankfully I only purchased 1 pair. Within 2 weeks the glue that holds the sole on has given way. My other dress shoes lasted 3 years. They were worn everyday. They were Zu shoes and if anyone has seen what there soles look like its ridiculously that they destroyed JM's offerings.
I didn't expect years worth but 2 weeks is pathetic for someone that's only used it in an office.

I totally agree that in the last 24 months the quality of mens leather shoes has dropped significantly. They simply don't last more than 6 months. I'm pretty sure it's a plot by shoe makers to make us buy more shoes :)
I guess they are having to sell them at around $100 so they need to make more money. In the past you had to pay a little more but they would last longer. So maybe we're kinda to blame for not wanting to pay :)
I might try a Lloyds paid next to see how they go. I did buy ones from Batsanis which have rubber roles, they were ok but the sole is starting to wear and getting them resoled seems to cost 50% the price of the shoes! Vicious cycle. Finding a cheap reliable shoe repairs place is the next thing I have to do :) $40 for a resole is a rip off.
cheers

Well you do walk on the sole of a shoe so i guess it will eventually wear down.
Have owned Batsanis shoes and found them to be great shoes.I think the key is to buy a couple of pairs of shoes and rotate wearing them so that they last. Typically a leather shoe will last 6-12months if worn everyday. If it has a leather sole you will get greater wear out of it once you put a rubber topping on.

Dress shoes?
Are these suitable for job interviews and other suit uses? Excuse my ignorance.
