Free 2GB USB drive from Microsoft!

Just fill out the quick survey to receive a free 2GB USB drive from microsoft!

They did a similar freebie with the vista t-shirt I received a while ago, so I think this one will be genuine as well.

“To thank you for the time you’ve invested with us today, we’ll mail your complimentary 2GB USB Flash Drive within the next 28 days. “

Gravatar

Nice find..

Please note: Method 2, online survey can only be completed using Internet Explorer. Does not work in Firefox or Safari.

Gravatar

I am still waiting for that t-shirt…..

Gravatar

lol really? I received it ages ago. I doubt you’ll get it then?

Gravatar

I got shirt (and a certificate).. never worn it, good for a rag though :-)

Gravatar

Got my t-shirt sent to work. Looks decent but I’m yet to wear it :)

This was quite painless, I just updated my profile because they already had a lot of info anyway (must have already put it in with the previous promotion or they got it through ExpertZone).

Flash drives are always welcomed :)

Gravatar

yep i doubt it as well…

gave up waiting for it a long time ago…

Gravatar

Thanks for heads up! Feels a bit weird to be entering info on organisation, so I just put the bare minimum in :)

Gravatar

You will need a Windows Live™ ID to update your profile and register for e-news. Read about Windows Live™ ID sign-up here.

So in effect Microsoft will know where you live? ;) hehe.

No thanks.

Gravatar

Well they will know where you live when you put your address anyway won’t they?

Gravatar

Not if you don’t fill it in.

Gravatar

And how do you expect to receive the 2GB flash drive then?

Gravatar

You DON’T.

That is the point. You do not fill your address in and you do not receive anything.

Gravatar

So.. you’ve negatively voted this deal because you can’t figure out a way to get the flash drive without giving Microsoft your address?

Harsh, man.

Gravatar

Good point. How do you expect to receive anything if you don’t give out your address or email address.

Privacy sure is high on everyone’s minds but what’s the worse they can do with your address? Come and knock on your door?

Gravatar

I agree - very harsh to give negative vote. The deal is great and deserves positive votes. It is your choice to not take up the good deal. By the way, when you signed up for your home internet, did you give them your address? Or are you ‘borrowing’ from the neighbours…

Gravatar

Umm why does that matter?

If you’re really that concerned for whatever reason, then just update your live profile details (remove your address) once you have received the USB drive.

Gravatar

Eh? About half the “deals” OzBargain offers require the company to get your address in order for the company to ship you something. How else do you expect to get the item?

Gravatar

Microsoft is Evil. Bride of Shaytan.

Gravatar

They are so evil because they want to give out free 2G USB drives? I reckon this is a clear case of personal prejudice and everyone should just ignore this negative vote.

Gravatar

Not necessarily, but I don’t see the good in handling out measly USB drives, they probably want you to use it for ReadyBoost to lower customer dissatisfaction levels.

Gravatar

Bohn’s response would ORDINARILY be a bit harsh… but then, this is Microsoft we’re talking about here!

what’s their dark motive you ask?!? to seduce you with their offer of gratis gadgetry in their plan for mindless brand loyalty and universal domination.

surely you learned never to accept lollies from strangers… or food from strange clowns… etcetera ?

Gravatar

Ha! I’m not signing up on all these freebies anymore, as I received none of it. One of the below was also Microsoft’s.

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/3170

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/5841

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/6382 (maybe)

Gravatar

None of those were from microsoft?

I did the vista freebie t-shirt and I received that (as did many others), so there is a good chance you’ll receive this one as well.

Gravatar

1st one was Microsoft and Novell combined open source platform promotion.

Gravatar

They had my business address details anyway, so I addressed it to that address.

Having a 2Gb stick in the office will be handy :)

Gravatar

To thank you for the time you’ve invested with us today, we’ll mail your complimentary 2GB USB Flash Drive within the next 28 days.

Hope i get this.. :)

Gravatar

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THE ‘Free Civic movie vouchers’ that we had awhile ago? And it said wait 28 days.. well isn’t it over that?

Did anyone get them or hear anything about them?

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/6095

It’s about 2 mths ago??

Gravatar

What’s that got to do with “evil” Microsoft? Are they the folks behind alwaysonsale.com.au?

And yet you didn’t vote negatively for that deal?

Gravatar

Wow bohn, it would be good if you didn’t vote based on personal bias and prejudices you have.

And yes, myself and others DID receive the Civic Video vouchers and we didn’t have to wait long either.

Gravatar

and this has what exactly to do with MS’s promotion? The only thing I can see is there is a months delay which is standard for this sort of thing.

Gravatar

Nothing, I knew a lot of people were reading this thread so I thought I would ask - and I got the answer I was looking for.

The posts can be deleted now if that is the wish of the admins ;)

Gravatar

Yes I received the civic vouchers it but I have 2 left over if you want it but you’ll have to send me a self addressed envelope, I don’t have one near me. Just email me at qizhizhou2006@hotmail.com

Gravatar

That is very kind of you. I do however wonder how many did not receive the vouchers from Always on Sale as I know of at least one other person who didn’t receive anything.

Gravatar

yeh , i have my own doubts about these freebies

i’ve signed up to so many “SOLD MY SOUL” yet received hardly anything :(

not gonna sell my details again lol!

Gravatar

i’ve signed up to so many “SOLD MY SOUL” yet received hardly anything :(

not gonna sell my details again lol!

Same here neosin… Sometimes these MS freebies are only for US and they kind of forget to tell you that little fact.

Not for me…

Gravatar

Yeah I agree these things are a bit of hit-and-miss most of the time.

I’ll share my experience with regards to freebies.

  • Obviously only apply for the freebie that interests you. You’re after all exchange your details for the freebie, so why “sell” your details for say, 1.5ml of a perfume sample?

  • Depending on the freebie, different degree of personal details will be needed. Postal or email addresses are almost musts. If you’re not prepared to give out your email or postal address, how do you expect to receive the freebie? I know privacy is a big thing realistically, they normally wouldn’t be sending stuff to your postal address let alone come knocking on your door. Spam emails maybe but you can just filter them out.

  • If it’s too good too be true, it normally is. When the freebie is too generous and there’s no strings attach apart from the usual details, I normally wouldn’t be bothered with it.

  • I normally look out for reputable companies, dodgy companies aren’t gonna send you freebies.

  • I also only apply for Aussie-based freebies. US-based freebies are just (mostly) waste of time.

  • In conclusion, it’s just common sense. Like the freebie —> Worth the effort and willing to give out details —> Apply

Gravatar

That’s a pretty comprehensive list. :) I have to say I agree with all of them, except two. When it’s too good to be true…read the fine print and it probably isn’t too good to be true. But sometimes it is! I’ve actually developed a manic habit of reading fine print when it comes to bargains, nowadays. XD

And on perfume samples…most of them are walk-in, I find, but I’m sure people who use perfume might say 1.5ml actually lasts quite a while, haha. That does reinforce your point, though. For one person who’s into it, there’s definitely at least one out there who isn’t.

Gravatar

I tried it using Google Chrome but the survey didn’t work.

Heh, I love the way they don’t test their stuff on other browsers.

Gravatar

I think it is so people use I.E instead of another browser ;)

Gravatar

i agree with the negative voter

Gravatar

The survey works on Firefox, you just have to click on “service” which is on the left of “start”

Gravatar

Was trying to click the actual button and then realised..oops..Micro$oft strikes again with badly formed CSS.

Still..free USB drive..why not, can’t complain!

Gravatar

I just got it from one of my senior friend, I m not sure is it true or not, just trying.

Gravatar

I have an xbox 360 so I already had Windows Live ID setup. So I just linked that to this survey for a free 2GB thumb drive. Yay.

Gravatar

how many people here actually own a business? lol!

i think the poster should change to business only? It clearly says ur business address?

i have a feeling that’s the catch. So many people will give their details in but they don’t have to send ya one cos ur not a business? I dunno? what you guys think?

Gravatar

It shouldn’t matter. The free vista t-shirt was also only for businesses but I still received it, as did many others.

They have no way of proving whether or not you have a genuine business, because they don’t ask for an ABN.

Gravatar

yea i got that

my dads wearing it around the place

Gravatar

I’ve “SOLD my SOUL” before with valuable stuff, like my post before for 2GB bracelet 9 mths ago, that actually worth something, now 2GB standard looking USB only set you back $10 at max. oh well, there’s no way to regulate the promoters. Though not much to lose but the false hope that “one day” the freebie would arrive, just dissatisfying. bit like those hoaxy chainletters.

Nothing personal about this deal ih8parties. good for people who look hard to find these, just too many dodgy promoters out there!

Gravatar

Under the terms and conditions it says its valued at $16 RRP. Not bad for a freebie which includes free postage. I wonder how many they have to give away though?

As for the 2GB bracelet deal a while ago, it wasn’t actually from microsoft itself.

Microsoft is a reputable company, they honoured the free t-shirt offer so chances are they will honour this too. What do you have to lose? This is nothing like a “hoax chain letter”. There have been people on here (myself included) that can confirm about receiving the free vista t-shirt a while ago.

Gravatar

I never got the 2gb bracelet

what a waste of my time

Gravatar

LOL.. for the negative voters.. Just give a fake address if you don’t like the deal.. Just to take advantage of Microsoft.. haha..

Gravatar

lol

Gravatar

Excellent bargain, i wear my vista advisor t-shirt every now and then, its quite nice. I’ve been wanting a larger flash drive for a while, though i don’t like the case, it is free and I’m happy to fill in the info they want.

Gravatar

Thread convinced me to enter details

Gravatar

Already got a 4gb drive, but the missus would appreciate this I’m sure since she’s still using 512mb.. :/

Gravatar

good one. last MS promotion i received vista t-shirt and a free petrol card (i think for 25$)

Gravatar

looks like a good deal.
hope I’ll get it within next 28 days ;-)

Gravatar

nice one, can always use more flash drives

Gravatar

OMgs read this:
Notice: Submission of this form includes an automatic subscription to the Microsoft e-newsletter “Microsoft Australia Business Update Newsletter”. No additional sign-up is required.

ggg gonna get spammed

Gravatar

Well if you were actually a small business it might be very useful. Else, you can always unsubscribe later.

Gravatar

This post proves why ebay’s feedback system just doesn’t work, no matter what you offer or do, 2% of people will always give you a neg.

Gravatar

Last time they did this, I never received the USB stick. Nevertheless, I put in my details…let’s see what happens.

Gravatar

Well, MS came through on the T-Shirt for me, so I’m expecting this to end well too.

Gravatar

I got a the t-shirt and A ShadowRun DVD game from microsft business

Gravatar

good one

Gravatar

It looks like you have to add yourself to a Microsoft mailing list to be eligible for the free USB stick!
Is a 2GB memory stick worth 2TB of daily spam??

NOTE- You will also need a Windows LIVE ID login account to access the survey.
(Browsers other than Explorer may have problems displaying the pages)

Gravatar

you can unsubscribe laterz

Gravatar

I provide my work address

Gravatar

Anyone recieved it yet?

Gravatar

not me, completed survey 1 week ago.

Gravatar

I think 28 days for me is 13 Nov 2008 …

Gravatar

still waiting.

Gravatar

I’m a sceptical when it comes to freebies :( Anyone received one yet?

Gravatar

Not as yet…

Gravatar

My 28 days is up on monday 10 Nov … and nothing yet.

Hmmmmm

Gravatar

My 28 days is coming up too. Nothing as of yet.

But hey, the T-Shirt came around for us.

Gravatar

Already 39days past and no USB

Gravatar

Hmm … it’s been a week since my 28 days were up … may there was a shipping delay … or maybe they decided to get a better model, what with the recent drop in prices … :P … either way … here’s hoping they at least contact us :)

Gravatar

Someone on whirlpool said they got theirs today, so it should be soon.

Gravatar

Do you have the link for that one?

Gravatar

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1061633&p...

They probably had thousands to dispatch (after being on ozbargain, whirlpool, OCAU etc). So it may take longer than they originally anticipated? Hopefully we’ll get ours soon.

Gravatar

Thanks for the reply … :)

Gravatar

Good stuff

Gravatar

Please provide reference please.

Gravatar

Still waiting for mine.

Gravatar

:( over 2 weeks late if ever now

Gravatar

Still waiting for this USB drive.

Gravatar

lol was just wondering if anybody else had received theirs…got my answer.

Gravatar

That’s what I received from Microsoft on my request :

“may I please know if you received a letter in the mail from Microsoft regarding this promotion? This offer was by invitation, and was a direct offer to a specific business customer list.
Thank you for your co-operation. I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards.”

As I have not received any letter from them, just went on their Web site and did my registration, I am not eligible for a free usb flash memory stick.

Actuallly looking at freebies I can see that in 99% of the cases it is just easier to purchase things then struggling to get them for free (e.g. 2GB usb flash for ~$8 delivered is pretty much a freebie).
