+4 votesIt'll cost you a dollar to find out :)
I've never used Big W, but from seeing some 6*4 prints a friend got it was a little underwhelming compared to the Fuji printers at HN - but they were scanned from film and possibly the originals were nothing that great :)
ScottLetts on 05/06/2012 - 16:50 ¶Quality, at least from Brisbane CBD was actually quite good. If you print in store it take around 1hr for turnaround - depending on demand.
+1 voteBigW and HN use the expensive fuji chemicals process to develop their photo's. OW/Kmart/Target use cheap laser technology.
Good time to go would be this thursday night. I usually go in because some trade late and I was literally the only one in the store, so photos took like 10mins to print.
StarkIndustries on 05/06/2012 - 16:34 ¶I've never done enlargement prints before, how does it work?
+1 voteScottLetts on 05/06/2012 - 16:46 ¶Yep, exactly the same.
Most stores have a high quality guillotine behind the counter too, so you don't have to print to the 14x11 dimensions. For example you can print 2:1 (14in x 7in) and just have them cut it to size for no extra cost - or any other ratio obviously.
They might not be too chuffed if you do this for 50 prints or so though!

They have 25% off M$ accessories too…will combine nicely with this:

CaptainAwesomeee on 05/06/2012 - 20:19 ¶I have a feeling this is a misprint. Hope i'm wrong because this is a good deal!

They are updating the systems at Big W Garden City QLD, can only order if you want all of the pics on your usb right now until the systems are up. Quality is good enough for me for this price. The guy at the counter said it was in store only. He also said he needed to order more paper and figured to have enough for about 3 days.
anotherone on 07/06/2012 - 09:21 ¶Just checked with them, this offer is available in store only. You wont be able to do it thro online.

+1 votetanweiturk on 07/06/2012 - 13:40 ¶No limit…print as much as you want..frame got onsale too..$5 each

Thanks OP - was waiting for a deal and this is an awesome BARGAIN!
Went to belmont WA - turnaround time was about 30mins.
Photos look fantastic (mind you, i did spend a bit of time tweaking some images using the machines brightness/colour/contrast controls). Ticket printed out full price but discounted manually at the till. No minimum or limit.
Very happy, jan :)
mini_wombat on 07/06/2012 - 23:46 ¶Great deal … got a few prints today (took 1 hour) and will be back for more. Thanks OP.
It is the first time I got some prints done after I colour-calibrated my monitor (with the Spyder4Pro). WOW! What a difference. Pretty impressed.
The format of 11x14 is just a little funny and not all my pictures work with it … but hey … for 1$ !!!
$1 is very cheap even if 11 X 14 is a very odd aspect ratio, but some compositions do fit it. Any that don't can be left as is and trimmed of any excess paper.
I wonder if there is any bleed of the file, some processes automatically crop a % of the picture when printing without borders - don't know why. Anyone know if this happens with Big W?
Thanks OP, a very good deal. Well spotted.

If anybody's interested; If you don't have experience of mounting prints here's one cheap and easy way but be very careful with the glue:
You need a suitable board cut to your taste/size, with or without a border for print to be used (a 2-4 inch border in usual but you can also be creative and compose the print in the board as you would compose the subject in the frame of the print), some spray adhesive, greaseproof/baking paper to cover print, and a roller of some kind - soft/rubber is best, must be SMOOTH surface.
3M do a good line in spray adhesives that work well on prints. I use their Super 77; spray lightly on the front of a board (but enough - use a stencil smaller than the print to keep adhesive within prints dimensions) then spray same on the back of a print, let dry to 'tacky' (10 -20 seconds) and carefully apply print to board - before applying adhesive fit print to board and mark out the top corners with a light pencil to fit to - with adhesive applied use the corner marks as a guide and 'roll' the print onto the board from the top down. Cover with baking paper and roll from the centre to the edges with a smooth surfaced rolling pin for proper contact of print to board. A rubber roller is best. You will probably only get one go to get it right, and almost any flat board will do. You don't need expensive mounting and matting. Anyway, that's one way of doing it. Don't forget, glue is very messy if you get it wrong. So Be Careful!
Alternatively you can cut the board after sticking the print to it. Saves having to get the print lined up perfectly on the pre-cut/sized board which can be very challenging at first. For a dollar per print you can afford to experiment.
Would also like to hear what others do to display their pics.

+1 voteGreat prints!
They have frames to suit for only $5 too. The frame is about 12"x15" with a matt board inside size 10"x13", so you tape the 11x14 behind that. I tried some 11x14" frames I already had (not such an odd size apparently) but the prints look much better in a bigger frame with white matt.
+1 voteIt depends on your frame. If the frame already has a white matt board inside, you don't need it on the print.
And if block mounting (frameless), you do not want a border. One tip guys: Glossy is normal in a photo ablum, or small frame where you hold it. But matte is usually the best choice for larger hanging pictures on the wall, to minimise reflections.

Borderless, and I got the same. I tested different aspect ratios, the std 10X15 and 4X3 came back cropped by the process - not what I wanted. But the 11X14 aspect ration was fine.
I asked about it and they said to avoid cropping the aspect ratio 'must' be 11X14. They offered to redo them free after I reset the aspect ratio, which was good of them - for a dollar.
+4 votesI only did ten as a test run, 4 were no good - 3 cropped at sides and one on top. Yes, probably dreaming. :)
Now I've re-edited 100 to fit 11X14. Here's a few examples of my work : http://onbeingmark.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/p1010836-mark... - http://onbeingmark.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/p1000176-mark... - http://onbeingmark.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/1040241-mark-...
Any that really need it I can always trim for composition. Will mount for sale at market. Might even try sell a few here, what you think? :)

came back cropped by the process - not what I wanted
There is a "do not crop" option on the Fuji machines.
This will give white bars on either sides, or top and bottom. That's what you want? The problem I found, is that it is all or nothing. You cannot zoom so that a little is cropped off the sides, but white border remains top and bottom.
+2 votesIf you take your pix in as is they will be auto cropped to fit the 11X14 and you will lose part of the frame, or you can edit for 'No Crop' and your pix will be auto fitted into the 11X14.
I re edited most of mine to 11X14 to keep the size, over 100 pix so I did it at home, and had them printed with no border and they are good. There were a few that couldn't be cropped to 11X14 for composition sake so I left them and edited for 'No Crop' at the Fuji machine in BigW, they came out well.
Make sense?
Shitforbrains on 09/06/2012 - 22:33 ¶Very impressive price. I'm definitely heading to BigW for this! Thank you for the posting
dennis.s.s on 11/06/2012 - 13:30 ¶Got 25 printed at Underwood/Kuraby, QLD yesterday. 20 minutes, and they even started to cut them so they had an even border for me (chose border because I didn't know how the aspect ratio would go)
Oh, and make sure your memory card/USB is in FAT32 format and images are JPG
khanhduytran80 on 17/06/2012 - 00:04 ¶Does this have to be in store?
Online still has lists the 11 x 14 for $13.84
Contrast was far from perfect on many of my prints and I tried twice.
Think I will bin a few as I am picky.
Probably depends on the chemicals and competence of local operators.
In my location, Harvey Norman and Officeworks# seem to do them better.
I processed them from raw originals on a 27" Imac, which is not calibrated, but shows the correct gray scales. I tried to make some brighter in the shop to compensate for the mediocre results but their monitors made that guess work.
I felt for $1 a go it was difficult to complain but maybe keep your photos simple.
#Officeworks have done some very big photos
for me with pleasing results.
