  • wow thats cheap!
would make sense if group buy and save on postage

    • I tried adding 2 to my cart but it imposes a 1 per transaction limit. I've included it in the OP.

  • Is this because this model is being replaced? Not saying it's obsolete or anything, but this model has been out a while

  • +1

    Quote for me :

$11.90 by Airmail Priority (Oregon address, no sales tax)
    $4.30 for Insurance
    $8.50 Ship.To fee

    Total Shipping $24.70
Total Cost landed is $204.69 USD = $205 AUD

    That's pretty good!

There are other shipping options but they are 3x more expensive.

    • +1

which mail forwarding do you use ? That sounds very reasonable for delivery!

    • +1

      24.7+189 = 213.7 not 205?
      fail math?

      • He was referring to the original amazon deal (removed by moderator), which was cheaper.

        • damned!!!! 179.99??? they are that low today?

        • They were, just gone back up to $196 - volatile market.

        • Volatile indeed…$210.99 now!

    • Dammit, that's a good price… it was my firmly-held opinion that we would be able to get a 256Gb SSD for under $200 delivered within six weeks (from a post about the front end cracking off the SSD-price-berg). Not quite there, but it's not quite six weeks…

  • +3

sorry man, not available to Australia, so it will be deleted as usual.
Sigh…..I paid my 128G M4 for this price 4 month ago, should wait longer.

  • +1

Had a quick look on B&H Photo Video and looks like they ship to Australia.
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/768803-REG/Crucial_Tec…

    SubTotal: $189.00
    Sales Tax: $0.00
    Shipping: $32.26
    Order Total: $221.26

    Might be worth a look.

  • comgateway.com is my forwarder of choice.

    • shipito.com is also one i've used a few times.

  • +1

I'm tempted at this price, but with so many recent drops I'll be kicking myself if in 3 weeks it's $50 cheaper!

    The eternal Ozbargain dilemma.

    • The markdown probably initiated from the manufacturer themselves as Amazon have even cheaper prices (but don't ship here). Probably is worth waiting a little to see what other vendors ship international.

  • Well if you buy it here http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/768803-REG/Crucial_Tec…
Its $189 and they ship to australia :)

    • $189 doesn't include shipping (as per the most above)

  • OP better put the B&H photo offer in the title, otherwise this will be deleted :(

Why has amazon stopped shipping here? Are they likley to start again?

    • You havent SSD threads have you?

    • It's just inconsistent, some computer products will still ship, others will not

  • Gonna give HopShopGo via comgateway.com a try from Amazon purchase, bought in US dollars take advantage of rate rise.

    • +1

      fail economics…

      • No fees on 28 degrees card - win!

        • -1

Surely with the 28 degrees card, the fee is in their forex spread. But I suspect it's still going to be the cheapest option available to consumers.

        • +1

No :) gives the standard MC rate.

        • Thanks for the info :)

  • +1

Says $199 plus $32 shipping now.

  • +1

Just another option to consider, I bought it for $179.99USD on Amazon, sent to Shipito in California.

Amazon charged me AUD$189 for it and shipito had charged an AUD$8.81 deposit/handling fee. Should be around AUD$215 when I finish paying for shipping + insurance. I'd say it's a better deal than this which would cost almost AUD$240, if you're willing to pay that price then you might as well hop on down to your local MSY for a 240GB sandisk extreme at $239.

  • I bought it the other day from Amazon for $199.99 so was rather annoyed to see it drop to $179.99. I thought that Amazon has a price drop guarantee but seems they got rid of that years ago.

I sent them an email letting them know I was disappointed to see it drop by $20 a few days after I bought it. They kindly offered a refund of that $20 so I am a happy ozbargainer :)

    • How did you manage to do that Hellfire? What did you type?
Which email address did you send it to?

      • I used the contact us form and wrote basically what I said.

  • +1

Don't get caught up in these deals unless it's an urgent purchase, you realise they'll drop locally under $200 in the next 2 months and you'll be kicking yourself. I'll hold off on re-installing my os….

    • +1

Then they'll be $150 landed from the US :)

BTW you don't have to re-install, just clone your HDD with imaging software.

  • Anyone got an Amazon Order number for the $179.99? Was the seller Amazon or third party?

    • Sold by: Amazon.com LLC

    • Mine was amazon too - I shipped mine to a friend in usa, its so small it will go airmail for just a few $$.

  • are these compatible on macbook pro like any other hd?

    • yes it will ! and it's also one of the top choice for MMP

  • I have order two drives from Amazon yesterday and will use Shipito with express service ship back to Melbourne.

Not selling for profit but just sharing the postage, should be around $220 after all.

Send me a message if you are interested ! drives are expecting to arrive by end of next week.

    • +1

it was $179.99 from Amazon…are you sure your not charging both drive shipping to the person that buys it… ?

40 bux shipping for one drive seems very excessive.

      • If you have looked into the details may give you a different thought

The story was I didn't get that $179 deal, I bought those two at $189 and Amazon only allowed one drive per order so eventually they will arrive in two packages at mailing forwarder . I used Shipito and the handling fees for two packages with consolidation for reship is around $20. The express shipping rates from them are not as cheap as those big companies and it's not fixed, like USPS Express or FedEx are about $50 overall. The total sum up would be $450 and this is in USD, converting to AUD by today's currency rates will be around $460.

        $460 / 2 = $230 I believe a simple math can tell I would be even in short if I sell it for $220

Very excessive ? By How ?
Please don't judge on something you are not completely sure, especially using a strongly offensive word.

        • based on the info that these where 179 and the size/weight of these drives (for standard shipping ie 20 for both) = 360+20=380/2 =190
you over paid…so you may be out but you still over paid 30-40 dollars per drive
now your trying to claw some of that overpayment back by sharing the costs of your overpayment.

        • I won't ship two drives valued $400 on a regular airmail even its with insurance. will you ?

and I said I bought the drives at $190, and where's the shipping forwarder fees in your math ?

          Be smart !

      • +1

Hopshopgo charged USD44.01 so drive is AUD221.89 delivered.

        • Crikey that's a lot. Glad I didn't buy now. Last time I used h$g was for my nook color and it cost like $35 to ship. How can they justify charging $10 more for something smaller and much lighter?

        • OK just my package arrived from Amazon in the Shipito warehouse.

The dimensions they sent it in are pretty big for the package, but thankfully very thin and thus cheap. (12" x 9" x 2")

Shipito has charged me in USD, $8.5 + $5 + $4.49insurance. That is a total of about $18.60AUD for shipping with insurance. Or about $14AUD for shipping without insurance.

Note: If you're buying from Amazon don't pay in AUD like I did!!!! Make sure you pay with USD and get your bank to do the conversion for you. It'll save you about $2 for every $100 you spend.

Final Cost: $208AUD, which is a shame haha, I missed the direct shipping from Amazon for $206AUD deal by one day.

  • just saw that amazon has the sandisk 240gb as daily special .. 179.99 usd (wont ship to oz though)

is this drive better than the sandisk?

    • The Sandisk one you can get it around $240 in from those online computer store

Crucial's SSDs are more reliable and have more positive reviews by user than SanDisk's drives.

      • is crucial the same drive that dies after 5000 hours? cause i saw one of the review on the bhphoto review page and it said something like that

        • +1

That's no longer an issue, after Crucial patched it with a firmware update.

  • This may interest some people, seems to be a good product

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/848999-REG/Crucial_Tec…

    http://www.techspot.com/review/515-crucial-adrenaline-ssd/

A lot of the SSD benefits with no so much of the cost..

    • A 50GB SSD for $90 USD is very poor value. You're paying $1.80 per gigabyte of data capacity. And that's not even including shipping fees.

For e.g Sandisk Extreme 128GB for $130 AUD represents much more bang for your buck ($1.0156 dollars per gig)

      • Hey scrimshaw,

You didn't read the article did you.. it's a SSD cache not an SSD drive. It's there to cache the most actively used parts of your traditional HDD to speed up response, so you could say have a 2TB disk with this along side and your traditional hard disk would respond more like a SSD (though there are limits to this).

In a corporate environment this is common place on large storage arrays so you can have relatively slow disks with a small number of fast SSD devices sitting in front of the disk which (with some hardware/software magic) speeds up overall response time and throughput.

This is just the first time I'd seen this done on a consumer level (without it being locked in to a all in one HDD/SSD package).

        • But why not just go full SSD and be done with it? The cache drive costs $90 (possibly over $100 after shipping) which is only a few dollars shy of a quality, locally bought 128GB SSD drive.

In other words, you could fork out $100 and get SSD caching, and partial benefits of an SSD drive.
or pay an extra $30 bucks and get the full SSD experience (and no requirement for a Z68 chipset).

          Which sounds better?

I would say MOST consumers (not corporate customers) would prefer the full SSD experience as opposed to just caching — large capacity SSD's are getting plenty cheap nowadays.

  • What is the deal with warranty when purchasing overseas?
I've had too many SSDs fail in the last few years, so I need to know this before purchasing.
