Vodafone have the Galaxy S3 32GB, white or blue, on their website on a 12 month plan @ $29 per month + $45 per month for the handset.

I ordered a blue over the phone and got 1 month free (plan only), comes out to $859. Phone is Soft-locked, with free unlock via internet or call-centre. Free delivery & 3-5 day eta.

From what I can see, Telstra, Virgin & Optus still only have the 32GB version on pre-order and for 24 month contracts.

@ $859, with free unlock, this is cheaper than shopbot (currently $854+shipping) with effectively a free 12 month plan. I can't see any 32GB's on Amazon atm.

Never been on Vodafone, so hopefully the network is kind to me :).

will the phone be pre-loaded with vodaphone apps ?

    • No idea, but I guess (hope) I'll find out soon.

    • +5

it is almost certainty that it will be loaded with Voda bloatware

    • +1

You always have the option to root it then flash it with CFW.
To remove such bloatware, I know that's the first thing on my list when I get It but I'm going to hold off from it until July just incase there are some software related issues.

      • Shouldn't be any need to reflash it, just root & Titanium Backup can uninstall the bloatware.

    • The Galaxy S3 makes it very easy to hide any bloatware, I can hardly tell mine is an Optus phone (and they do a great job of filling up your phone with crap). No need to root.

  • how did you get 1 month free access? is it guaranteed to be offered if we order via telephone?

    • +1

I rang them to confirm availability, dates etc. and the guy mentioned that he might be able to work out something like a month free. I called back later to order and the girl I spoke to honoured it.

Even without a month free, it's still basically a 12 month (albeit low-end) plan for the same price as outright + shipping from the cheapest on shopbot.

Is there a way of uploading a screenshot, given that I've linked to a URL? My first submit & I can't find a way of doing it.

  • Had a look earlier, the page for the 32GB on Vodafone says "Stock coming soon. Buy now and secure your new Samsung Galaxy S III. We will get in touch within 7 days to update you on new stock deliveries. "

I currently have an order with Kogan for the 64GB and they have advised that it has been delayed again. The page on Kogan now shows 13th July - this used to initially be 28th May then 11th June. I have a feeling that Samsung is behind this delay.

Why not buy a 16GB and use a large microSD card?

      • Yeah I don't get it, is there 16GB/32GB internal memory as well in the phone?
Also, why don't people just get the 16GB then large microsd card (as the poster I'm replying to has suggested), cheap upgrade (less than $30 delivered for 32GB microsd card now)

      • With ICS why buy a phone with more internal memory?

      • +1

32GB is better for the simple reason that (at least on SGS2) if you have a MicroSD card and if you move too many app to the MicroSD, the phone will sometimes have problems during bootup, plus the phone gets really hot because it needs to scan the entire MicroSD for media and app. If everything is stored on phone's internal memory, the read/write speed is way fast and things are more stable

        • ICS is very difference from Gingerbread with installation location.

        Hi ryang

I currently have a 16GB Galaxy S with a 32GB microSD. Since most of my music is in FLAC, it does take up quite a bit, plus, I am looking to put more HD videos and movies, so that's going to be a lot of storage required.

I think the internal storage would also be more reliable than microSDs? Also it's less fiddly I guess.

    • I'm going o/s in two weeks. They said I'd have my phone by 'mid-next week, easy'.

Really wanted a 64gb, but just can't wait any more.

      • 10% GST refund … here you come!

        • can you claim a GST refund if you get a phone on a postpaid plan with monthly handset payments?

        • No base on invoice amount.

  • really dont know why outright price is so high when you can get it with calls/data for not much more..

    • +3

Cause calls/data is actually worth very little.
live connected etc make a profit, even selling the same alloances at 1/4 of the price or something.

    • I think it's worth it to buy outright if you go overseas (tax free), then claim it on your tax return too… if you can…

    • +3

Because these utterly appalling plans are great for sucking people in when they compare to the outright price.

  • +5

Good luck to anyone who signs up for this. Yes, it works out to be an OK deal but I wouldn't use the Vodafone network even if it were free. Shocking service/signals/etc. Then again, many will think otherwise. Each to their own, I guess.

    • +5

No problems with it here, although once upon a time it was unusable.

    • +6

      100% completely agree.

      Short memory people!

The way Vodafone disregarded customer complaints, ignored their network was inadequate for so long yet kept reeling new customers in was abhorrent.

They've a new glossy advertising campaign suggesting their network is improving. Sure, you can save a buck with them. Personally I wouldn't go back to the dog that bit hard and left a horrific wound.
      Vodafail.

      • +1

I haven't had any issues whatsoever with the network, and the one time I had an issue with my HTC, they rectified immediately shrugs

    • Agree that it used to be bad, but it has been working great for me since October last year. I managed to work out a dirt cheap plan with enough data and texts, so I'm happy.

  • Am I missing anything? can't find any 12 months plan for this phone on VF site

EDIT: Sorry, I DID misread. Yes, it's there

  • +2

    Agreed with tryonthis

I actually got the offer to wave out my current almost 5-months left contract with Vodafone to get the latest Samsung S3 or HTC One X if I sign up again. As much as I LOVE and WANT either those phones, I REFUSE to sign up with them again….I am not one of those people who are just jump on the bandwagon and complain. I just can't tolerate the low speed and bad reception. I live in the city, and for the past two days, I have ZERO reception at home (i.e. my iphone says "SOS only"), ZERO!! WTF?! And it's not the first time and i am sure it won't be the last….

Maybe for some, Voda is getting better, but for me, it's byebye Voda after my 5 months contract ends….

As for the S3 phone, i am surprised with the built quality in a very good way. It's nothing like the S2 (almost feel like a plastic dummy phone) and feel as solid and sturdy as it can possibly get.

One thing I am NOT impressed is the visual quality. Aside from the screen definitely not being the best in its class, there is another thing bugs me a little. When you swipe the screen and flip page (on desktop, not app drawer), it actually "LOWER" the resolution of the item on the screen considerably. You can swipe and hold half way, you will see things like icons looks low res and once you let go and the screen settles, the high resolution of the items comes back. Very uncool I have to say, it's a quad-core phone, do they really need to do that to ensure the smoothness of the screen scrolling?!

    • Hopefully the usage of shared mobile tower sites between VF and Optus will improve things.

      • Really? is that what they plan to do or they are already doing it?

        • +1

          Thanks,

It could mean two things then.
          1. Voda improves as the joint venture goes ahead.
          2. Voda drag optus down with it……

But in any case, I will be away from voda for at least a year…

        • From what I have read and heard, they are just sharing the location of the towers. I would think one location would have 2 towers or receptors, 1 VF and 1 optus, therefore, not actually sharing their networks.

This will indeed expand the coverage for both networks to rival Telstra.

    • +2

I got the same offer after some hard negotiation, still havnt agreed yet as i'm trying to screw them a bit more for 1 free month. Yeah the network is rubbish but I am not factoring in call/data plan when making the decision, it is purely based on the contract I have left to pay out if I don't renew now $245 (5 months x 49) also the value in selling your iphone now while it still has some market value before the new one coming out. This value effectively gets subtracted from your new 12 month contract you can negotiate for the S3 or similar, so imo if you can screw them down to approx $900 total cost over 12 months then the calls/data is almost irrelevant the way I see it. Well thats my rationale anyway.

    • The lowering of the resolution is not because of the screen. It is because of Touchwiz.

      • Yap, pretty sure it's more software than hardware. But just feel it's very unnecessary for such a powerful device…

    • i thought the network guarantee was for this kind of situation. maybe call up vodafone and complain about no reception at home, they might give ur money back and end the contract with no penalty.

i heard someone did this for Optus but have no idea if this applies to Vodafone as well.

  • For anyone who doesn't mind VF network, this is a better deal: $49(Plan)+$35(Phone)per month, you get $550 calls + 1GB data. If you can get one month free as the OP did, you pay $924 ($1008-$84)over 12 months

    • +2

I think it only give 49 free

  • Hey,
I got the same 29 dollar plan with 35 dollars for phone. It comes to 768 dollars for 1 year.

    • wow..that's a lot of casback to miss!

  • Is it possible to upgrade a current phone contract with this for for $45 a month for 12 months or is it only available through a new contract, I've got ~14 months left on my current plan and I'd love one of these.

    • prob not, you would have to pay a penalty to exit, if you had 3 months left it would be a different story ..

  • jb is selling it 777 outright

    • That's the 16GB.

  • i got my blue 32GB today from vodafone in the mail, did 12 month plan online with $100 cashback through buckscoop.com.au website and 10% discount on the cap as a second service

  • +1 for 12 month contract / total cost

  • How much Vodafone bloat ware is on the phone? Do we also get the 50gb of Dropbox storage free for 2 years?

    • +1

Almost no bloatware. Just a voda app that's really just a link to voda homepage and also a my account app for checking usage etc. You will also get the 50.gb drop box.

Sent from my voda gs 3 :)

  • +5

I used to think that vodafone complaints were exaggerated. Then I joined their network last year. I live in metro Sydney (2122) and since then I have ALWAYS had either 1 bar or no reception. I often get notifications of late calls and texts arriving 20 minutes later. Now I see this company should rot in $%^^

Be cautious people before deciding on this deal.

    • +1

I often get notifications of late calls and texts arriving 20 minutes later.

You are lucky, mine frequently used to be literally days late!!! :(

I recently switched to Liveconnected, best $11 a month I've spent in years! :)

    • OTOH, I'm in inner-city Melbourne (Collingwood, 3066) and find VF (Redbullmobile) to be quite a lot better than Optus was.

  • liveconnected $7.99 plan is the equivalent on the Optus network (to this plan)- so you are paying $96 (8x12) for the credit in this plan.

$763 for the phone (and the option of paying it off monthly)

    • does not include international calls ?? … my understanding is that most people go on these plans because international calls are included ? am i right?

      • the vodafone plan doesnt include international calls- neither does the liveconnected.
        hence the comparison.

Apart from the 32GB phone this offer is nowhere near impressive. Vodafone $29 plan is too risky for this phone as they download files faster and very easy to go over your data limit. Id rather go with the other options

    Mobiciti Galaxy S3 + shipping = $732.8 (or Dicksmith/JB outright)
    Woolworths $29 cap less 10% 45day expiry =$26.10 x 8 = $208.80
    Min cost for a year = $940.80

    Virgin $29 cap + $20 for 24 months = $1176 minimum cost
($450 calls + 2.25GB data and rollover unused credit)

They may just be 16GB versions but you're more in control of the minimum cost. And you dont have to put up with Vodafone network and service

    • +1

I dont understand the reason of your neg. data usage is a personal thing. can be bad for u but not for all.
      Also $1176 > $940 > $859.

If you apply online, can get cashback for vodafone.

      • +1

Definitely not good for me but just pointing out the risk of having low data on a contract, especially for a phone optimised for fast download/upload. Unless you have access to wifi or only use Facebook (free data)no way you can say 200MB is more than plenty.

        FYI - 10mins youtube is 20MB+.

    • +4

I see where your getting at. Anyone who has a Galaxy S3 probably should go with a larger data amount, this plan is basically a trap. However I have to disagree on the negative, reason being ICS comes with a data limit feature that notifies you when you are about to reach your data limit, so you wont go over.

  • You can apply 25SAVE promo code on the Vodafone checkout to receive $25 credit back on your first bill.

Anybody knows if it is possible to combine this code with BuckScoop cash-back offer?

  • +1

Don't forget that if you are a NRMA member, you get 10% discount for any new 12/24 months contracts!!!

    More savings!!!

I wouldn't be rush signing any deal now
Lunching day it costed $900, 3 days later $700 and now with this plan still $700 but with $29 cap credit for 12 months! And this is only 2nd week of this product been launched! in another month, this might be FREE with 29 CAP. Whoever purchased it at $900 or $65 per month on 24 months contract, will they ever buy Samsung again when new product lunching?

    • +1

Yep totally agree, hence why I'll wait until about August/September. Not only will it be cheaper, but by then we should see what the next iPhone is going to be like, then for people who are in 2 minds as to which phone to get can decide which one to go for knowing all the details and facts.

    • +11

all this talk of lunching is making me hungry

    • +2

Your not comparing apples with apples, the price is still $64 a month on a 24 month contract… IF you want the $59 cap. This deal is for the $29 cap… so of course its going to be cheaper.

As far as I know vodafone hasn't dropped their prices since it launched, Correct me if I'm wrong.

    • I think if you go back to this post:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71378?page=1
the price have always been $29+$40 for the SGS III 32GB on launch day on a 12mths contract when purchased in store. So the price have not changed at all since launch…
btw..I managed to get it at this price + extra 10% off the monthly repayment by ordering through the phone..

  • +1

For anyone going for Vodafone 12 months plan; It only costs $60 more over 12 months for this 32 gb model over the 16 gb one..

    • really? how did you work that out?

      • +1

        Online Pricing

        Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB — ($29 Plan + $40 Mobile) x 12 Month = $828
        Samsung Galaxy S III 32GB — ($29 Plan + $45 Mobile) x 12 Month = $888

similarly other plans also have $5 per month difference $5x12=$60.

  • my friend ( he worked at Vodafone) recently renew his contract 3 months before its due, he got Samsung galaxy s 3 16gb over 59 plans 24 months with 0 dollar upfront and 3 months for free, plus 50 credit back with 3gb data on every months for 24 months, its pretty sweet.

  • thanks, great find!

  • just got off the phone with upgrades.

Got the samsung galaxy S III 16gb with NRMA discount

    comes to $781.20 = $65.10 p/m

    compared to Live connected ($747 outright (5% staff) = $709.65 + LC $12p/m for 12 months = $164
    = $873.65

so ended up taking the voda deal.

  • Called the Vodafone hot line last Friday(8 June),upgrading to the S3 32GB white~
And received this morning(13 June), wat a surprise!!!!!

    • Got mine today, as well. Very happy. First smart phone I've owned, so plenty of playing to do.

Doesn't seem to be too much Voda-ware, but the bright red power on/off screen will have to go!

EDIT: Oh, and just unlocked it using their Voda's online tool and my old SIM (hacked up to approximate a micro sim ;)). Unlocked no probs at all.

      • I agree that the "bright red power on/off screen will have to go" - but how?

        • Might have to root and flash it with another rom, if you really wish to get rid of that~~

    • did you get any tracking?

apparently upgrade orders have no tracking?

just trying to wait patiently for it to turn up.

      • there is, but i received the package long before they actually sent me the consignment numbers.
And that consignment tracking SMS was actually sent 6 hours after.
so well =.= i was lucky to be home at that morning, otherwise i have to go out and pick it up in another time.

        • just received it!

  • Wonder if we could combine all of the following offer :)
100 dollar cash back - buckscoop
    25 dollar promo code
10% off the plan - as a secondary number

  • Negotiated to:
    16GB @ $59p/m on $39 plan, 12 months = $708
    16GB @ $69p/m on $49 plan, 12 months = $828
