this is cool though i picked up a 3.5” usb drive enclosure from msy for aroudn 20 bucks not too long ago, would achieve a similar thing, guess they are in different shapes and this one is easier if you are swapping raw drives..

Yep, unless you don’t have eSATA ports or space for an SATA-eSATA bracket, going USB-only makes little sense. It can halve transfer speeds and in the age of terabyte HDs that can translate into hours of copying time. The only other reason to limit yourself to USB is if you need long cable length (5M vs 1-2M for eSATA).
