I would be waiting for 10% off and only paying an extra 5% for the new models.

I want 10% off the retina model before June 30… What are my chances?

      • +1 waiting for that to happen as well. I don't like my chances of that happening either.

….oh wait, there's always JB, I'm sure they'll be somewhat negotiable?

      • I'm guessing low since they have old stock to clear out. You might get lucky.

Currently Apples own store has an estimated shipping date of 3 - 4 weeks though for new orders which would suggest stock is tight for now.

This, plus hoping this happens within the 30 day period before I fly out of the country so I can get GST back.

      • I am in the same boat!
I have a work overseas trip departing July 15th, so I have to buy between June 16 and June 30 to claim it on tax and TRS.

        • +2

if you claim the tax as deductible expense now, wouldnt the amount u can maximum claim is 17days out of 365days? hard to justify the full cost to ATO… just a thought

        • same here…are university discounts still 10% these days?

Just get the 8% student discount off the Apple Site and take it down to DSE and they will price match. Thats what I did when I got my Mac and I'm not a student.

  • Is this model, http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XA1100/apple-macbook-pro-13-… the same as this 13in 2.5ghz

Looks like you selling it for $50 more than Apple and unless the specs are wrong on your site, Apple's selling macbook pro (13inch) has bit better specs.

Once the retina macbooks are actually in stock, I'd reckon there would be 20% off sales, just a guess though.

  • Besides the expensive retina macbook pro, would there be a new macbook air coming out soon? I can't afford the retina one.

    • +2

I'm in the same boat as you.. The retina one is too damn expensive. However they HAVE released the new Macbook Airs. I'll be getting one of these in the next week. :)

For an extra 5% off RAA members can get WISH gift cards at 5% off from any of the RAA stores and use it to make the purchase.

Also the Entertainment Books have a 5% off all the time.

  • Hmmm… That link to the MD313X/A seems to be taking off 15% off $1,399. I thought the superseded models have new, lower RRPs now. The new model I believe has an RRP of $1,349.

    • You're correct. The new model, with an Apple.com.au selling price of $1349, has Ivy Bridge i5. Of course, Ivy Bridge brings only minor improvements to the CPU but a huge improvement in the integrated graphics. Definitely worth the extra price for that alone, and for a lot of people the student discount brings it down to $1229, which is only a little more than Dick Smith's older model clearance price. Are there any differences in the ports? USB 3/Thunderbolt, etc?

  • Hmm, thinking of price match with Myer…

    • If you had some ~10% off Myer gift cards, and %15 off from this price match, nice!

If you can claim GST as well you'll be laughing

  • i expect the Retina and SSD.
