What is android mini pc mk802?
In simple words,it is a device with which you can turn a TV(moniter)into a PC via HDMI input.

What would you do with such a thing?
Plenty is the answer. This not only makes any HDMI display a PC, it also ushers in a new type of portability. Bring your Netflix over to a friend's house without needing your phone, or never worry about using public PCs again. With the android mini pc mk802
you can use remote desktop software on it to control a Windows PC, or the OnLive service to stream console video games over the internet.

How do you use it?
Seting up the device is easy enough, just plug this little fella into an HDMI port (cable provided) and a USB slot for juice (we used one on the TV, there's the option for a power pack too,) and you're away. It takes a few moments to boot up, but once it does, you're into good old Android (4.0.3). We used a wired mouse in the second USB port which worked straight away with no problems. Another option could be to explore some VNC or remote control applications, but this seemed more complicated than it was worth. A dongle-based wireless mouse might be better. What could also be nice, for later versions, would be Bluetooth support for additional HID options.

Would it be possible for you to sweeten the pot by offering some free memory card? Doesn't matter if its 2gb :p

EDIT: Could you clarify the specs? It is a bit confusing. The description of the website says Mali400 whereas the specs say AMD Z430. Which is it? Also, the specs say A10 when I'm fairly sure it is supposed to be A15.

Also, do you know if I can use a USB hub with it? So that I could connect a mouse and keyboard?

    • -3

This device has a microSD card slot for extra storage, a mini HDMI port for connecting an external display, a full-sized USB port for a keyboard, mouse, or other accessory. The device also has a mini USB port which you can use to power the MK802, connect it to a computer, or plug in peripherals.

The question you mentioned above can also find an answer on this site:http://liliputing.com/2012/06/74-mk802-android-4-0-mini-pc-first-impressions-video.html

        • The website has the words "China Wholesale" plastered all over it.

        • +2

    • They are trying to bypass ebays new high selling commission rates maybe.

Use this forum saves them money?

    • LOL, love the negs. Keep em coming! Lots of pissed of Chinese people I bet…

  • this is a good gizmo it is a mali400 as far as i know

    Review on youtube

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akp2hYE1dZ0

  • Page say PRE-ORDER, and then says in-stock. Which is it REP?

    • We have ordered some from our supplier at first, so we marked them as "in stock", but these new devices are too hot and beyond our expectation, so our stock is insufficient temporarily, then we decide to offer pre-order for these items and will purchase more in coming days!

      • No stock, no bargain

      • In the trustworthy and decent online stores

If you claim an item is both "In-Stock" and a pre-order, then you're not a trustworthy site.

        No bargain.

      • +1

The device runs hot just after a few minute of use. Check out the youtube link provided by fchis above. Good concept tough… will get one when they are around $50. You can get a 7" tablets with capacitive screen for under $100 that works well with Android 4. You won't be able to utilise the multi touch screen features as a lot of Android apps require.

      • you advertise hear but have no au adapters?

  • It is worth noting that this also requires a HDMI cable to connect it to a TV. It is not, unfortunately, designed like a USB thumb drive in that sense. A bit of usefulness killer for me.

  • It's a good device for those who don't like the PI or want more grunt and ram but 2amps at 5v would be a problem for most usb hubs wouldn't it? The only hub I've seen with 2a was a rather expensive one and the next best was a 1.5a 'fast charging' adaptor, most are 1a if that. Do tv's allow much more current?

  • Edit: nm, read the answer above more closely

  • i bought it on friday at 73 buck from Amazon 1gig version its sold out at a lots of places so a good deal

    • For 73 bucks, does it include shipping?

      • yes its already shipped from HK
it was $ 70 US and i let Amazon convert my money. it is a usual price and i thought Ozbargain only allowed bargains so i did not post it. its sold out on amazon now as i checked today when my wanted the same thing.

pros. its a cheap way to convert my cheap 55" soniq tv in to a smart one. altogether $ 772 55" smart tv

        • good thanks, i got a soniq 42" so i was wondering to do the same thing as well :) Is web browsing laggy when watching videos? I plan to watch some online videos (not youtube) using this. Can I hook up a set of normal pc size wireless mouse and keyboard with this?

        • so what app do you use for the interface as a smart tv? and I'm assuming a remote too?

        • yup i think it runs flash from the web no problems. and supports any keyboard mouse. perfect for youtube. browsing and it plays 2160p video but i am hoping that even if it play 720p i am happy!!!
search youtube for MK802 android mini pc apparently there is ubuntu/linux ready for the device as well but i am not planning to run anything beyond android.

one thing i saw was it comes with skype pre-loaded so i am guessing its got a inbuilt mike aswell.

i think its sold out pretty much everywhere
probably ALiexpress is your best bet.

        • good to know. Cheers :)

This gadget is in par with FXI Cotton Candy $200 (Linux + better specs)
    http://www.fxitech.com/products/

    or for a cheapo Raspberry Pi $25 - 35
    http://www.raspberrypi.org/

Theres a step by step instruction to run MK802 with Ubuntu but bit choppy (maybe its better to use light version like Lubuntu)
    http://liliputing.com/2012/06/how-to-run-ubuntu-linux-on-the…

Very nice , affordable and useful gadget. Its so small that you can hide it behind any type of Tv.
Rasberry Pi is the only one with old video connector, while Cotton Candy and Mk 802 use HDMI

PS: you can pair this with Lenovo N5901 $ 40 and turn your tv as an all out media center :)

  • This is US pricing, so add a bit. Site itself says says "AUD $87.83 (for reference)" should the post title not relfect this?

    • According to the current exchange rate(1USD=1.0056AUD),79.99USD is equal to 80.44AUD, the exchange rate of our site hasn't update real time, sorry for the inconvenience!

      • Still, it depends on payment method etc. but either way you should put USD in the title at least.

        • Yes, this also depends on payment method, thanks for your reminding, I'll add USD in my future post!

        • +1

You still can edit your post now, why wait for later post?

        • Thanks for your advice! I've added "USD" in the price of the title.

providing it's only wireless it will have problem streaming HD movie from network device? watching pps is a plus for me!

    • +1

my thoughts too, and it says its only b/g so without n support I assume it might struggle?

    • You can get an answer from engadget, these internals via two USB ports (which can also power the device,) and pump the result out to a display via HDMI. The details showed on: http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/07/mk802-android-4-0-mini-pc…

  • does it support wireless mouse?

    • Wireless mouse usually uses bluetooth or you get a 2.4hz adapter. There is no Bluetooth on this device, but a cheap USB BT 'may' work.

  • does it support a USB webcam… skype?

    • I would think you will need to worry a) if Android 4.0 supports the webcam you want to use; b) the power needed to run the webcam.

Others on here may have some better advice to offer. My opinion is that you'll be able to get one to work one way or another.

  • Looks interesting, but my questions would be..
    1. Is it possible to connect a USB to LAN adaptor? HD streaming over WiFi can be unreliable
    2. Can it downmix DTS audio to AC3(or stereo)?

    • If one is looking to handle HD video and specific audio needs, a step up in device like an Apple TV or WD Live would most likely be a better choice which arent a whole lot more expensive.

As for a USB to LAN adapter, I would imagine it would depend on whether the OS supports such a thing.

  • Would the power pack need a step down transformer?

    • As this is a portable unit, you'd expect the power pack handles any power input. Typically 100 ~ 220V. It will handle USB power too if there is one near by.

  • Alukado: What is the expected delivery time for the 1GB model? What about the shipping time to Sydney as well? Very interested to buy the 1GB model..

  • I prefer the way the Logitech Revue works - it plugs in between a device (like a PVR or Bluray) and your TV, so GoogleTV can pop up on the same input as your PVR, rather than having to switch TV inputs to get GoogleTV.

    • yes that is a good feature but the revue is locked to honeycomb 3.2, has very poor app compatibility in the market ie no skype.

  • +4

I ordered one. Let see how it goes.

The coupon 'snapshot' gives 7% off :)
This brings 1GB model down to $75.99USD
or the 512MB model down to $69.24USD

The only place I could find it cheaper was AliExpress at $68.40USD, but I've not had good experiences with them.

  • @ O.P
I'm planning to use Skype on this.
would a webcam works with it?

  • +1

    Dammit - bought 1 :D

  • i have a fairly old samsung LCD…does that mean i'll have to plug it into the HDMI port and then power the device through a USB AC adapter via mains socket? (my TV doesn't have a USB port unfortunately).

Tempted to buy, but hmmm seems like a clunky setup. Also, how do you set up sound?

    Cheers

  • anyone had one of these ship yet ?
