Plays 720p mkvs with Dolby fine but doesn't play DTS audio tracks. It has played all the files I've tried from what I can recall. With 1080p mkvs though it takes a few minutes initially but still plays fine. I think the biggest downer is that it doesn't play DTS tracks. Otherwise great TV for the price.

really? i tried last night, 720p mkv files. it did play but the image was twisted and pretty laggy. did u update the firmware?

        •

I don't think I updated any thing. Worked fine out of the box. I use a desktop USB HDD. Never had any probs except for DTS and it taking a few minutes before playing FHD mkvs.

        •

Btw is it the 320 or the newer 350 model you've got?

        •

i even tried to play compressed 720p file (5gb ones), still laggy :(

        •

          it's the 320

        •

Are you using a USB powered HDD or a desktop HDD?

        •

USB powered, i haven't had any issues with my samsung tv tho

        •

I have the same that's very odd ….

I'm guessing that might be the problem. Try a desktop HDD. Yeah the Sammy's media player is awesome plays every thing including DTS tracks no worries.

        •

just tried the same file with my desktop HDD, still the same.
how big is the file u playin? did u format ur hdd to FAT32?

        •

Just your average 4-6GB 720p mkvs. No I did not format the HDD it's NTFS there's no need for it unless you are trying to record TV which you can't do on this Telly.

        •

Also plays 1080p mkvs which are around the 20GB mark but takes about 4-5 mins to load up initially for some reason.

  •

really decent price for a good brand

  •

Its been this price before correct? or was that a different model of Sony?

  •

I got the full hd model Sony for around the same price at Xmas (about $30 more I believe). I will say that the Sony range have excellent and realistic color reproduction, unlike the over colored and saturated Samsung counterparts.

You know Samsung manufacture Sony panels right?

      • +2 votes

But Samsung uses a different… can I say engine, to convert a signal into pixels. Sony generally produces more accurate colours, but some may like the saturation.

And Kogan uses their panels too…we know how that went.

      • +1 vote

Not anymore. Sony ended that arrangement with Samsung early last year.

  •

That was a steal at that price too bad I wasn't after a Telly when that was going on :(

  •

Still waiting for a 32 inch LED of a reputable brand for $299. Hope it's possible..

    • +2 votes

      yeah, keep waiting then.

    •

Reputable brand? Sony is about as reputable as it gets IMO!

Edit - just saw LED. Doh

The only thing "Sony" about this tv is the badge! Ever heard of Foxcon? :-)
Sony ain't what they used to be any more…

Sony have all but pulled out of the TV market after losing billions the last few years.
All they sell now are rebaged units.
