+40 votesI think its bad form to talk about price match at OW. We want to encourage retailers to offer us good deals. if every time someone offers a good deal, and everyone says price match at OW, then it takes away other's incentive to offer us good deals.
It would be nice if OW could offer us a good deal on something themselves for a change!

I think points of order are best moved, discussed and voted in FORUMS.
I also feel this is a place to find & crowd-source BARGAINS & MEANS to
STRETCH OUR BUYING POWER as a Community.Reminders that help us save $$$ as FINE WITH ME,
as fair responses to those who have the power to

Just a reminder here, the Jelly Bean is coming out real soon.
lamerthanlam on 06/07/2012 - 18:54 ¶iPad mini won't come out at $300. Given that the current ipad starts from $429. The iPad mini most likely would start at $329. Then major branded android tablets would likely reduce their prices by a little and keeping the prices relatively high on the basis that their tablets are "10.1 inches"

ProspectiveDarkness on 06/07/2012 - 19:00 ¶keeping the prices relatively high on the basis that their tablets are "10.1 inches"
What does the size of the tablets (0.4 inches on top of the iPad, mind you) have to do with 'keeping prices relatively high'? And high relative to what, exactly?

I feel OK about supporting the folks responsible for getting this tab into my hands,
both because I have learned to appreciate its functions in new applications and
because I happen to STRONGLY DISAGREE with Apple's CLOSED SHOP approach
to the market. I like buying from suppliers who need to COMPETE.And don't get me started on the Human costs (eg, in China) of their
manufacturing side vs the high prices they insist on charging.(We just found a netbook -with- 3G for well under $ 300 so Apple's premium
price for that feature sucks even worse, IMO.)'nuff said…
+1 voteProspectiveDarkness on 06/07/2012 - 18:50 ¶True, but even if the 32GB TF700 is released in Australia, its likely to, at least, cost north of $650 - optimistically. Its a premium tablet, versus the lower end TF300, so the TF700 is probably not suitable for most people looking for a good, bang-for-buck tablet.
sleepy2012 on 06/07/2012 - 19:21 ¶According to this link http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/article/429551/asus_delays_t...,
there's only going to be the 64gb model which is sitting at $999
ProspectiveDarkness on 06/07/2012 - 19:25 ¶Yeah, as far as I'm aware, they're only initially releasing the 64GB + dock, and then possibly releasing the 32GB + dock if there's enough demand. Looks like either grey import, or nada, for now.
Shame, I was really looking forward to this tablet, but one could custom build a fairly powerful desktop PC for that money - so that's a bit off-putting.
+1 votegoodonservice on 06/07/2012 - 19:22 ¶At this price. Wouldnt this better in value than the nexus seven? Just bought one, now lets hope wife will like it.
+1 voteProspectiveDarkness on 06/07/2012 - 19:27 ¶Considering it has the dock and expandable memory, I'd say so. The docks are usually about $100-$150 on their own, so its a damn good price.
+1 voteI am on an unrooted stock TF101 (ICS) with a vodafail 3g USB dongle. Pretty easy to set up too.
So i would assume the telstra modem would be similar. But failing that the pocket wifi is a good idea.
It would be so much better if these units came out with 3g built into it though :(
+1 votekoreainhyuk on 06/07/2012 - 19:30 ¶I'm considering selling my iPad 2 and moving on to this…
What are your opinions?

Depends. Most likely no. Tegra 3 isn't powerful enough to really blow iPad 2 away. Also, iPad still has more apps and games (and generally better quality).
You would consider switching if (1) you intend to wirelessly stream 1080p mkv files to your tablet a lot at home or (2) the keyboard dock is quite important / useful to you or (3) being able to connect a USB hard disk, USB keyboard and/or USB mouse is important to you.
Apple don't really feel threatened by Tegra 3. Samsung's quad core CPU might be a different story, but Samsung don't have enough of those CPUs for their phones yet so we probably won't see them on tablets for a little while.
+1 voteactually that's incorrect. The iPad 2 uses the dual-core A5 chip which is made by apple themselves. Tests show that when it comes to gfx power, the A5 is a lot better than the tegra's. However, when it comes to video playback, apple chose to cripple the chip by not allowing decoding of anything other than the formats apple uses through itunes (.m4v, mp4, etc). That's why it doesn't play those files well when compared to tegra's.
+1 voteKrisspy, rk1314 is right. The CPU/GPU in iPad 2 is NOT Tegra2. A5 has a lot of GPU power (Tegra 3 isn't exactly great in GPU for a third gen GPU). iPad 2 GPU most likely CAN do high profile hardware accelerated decoding, but Apple delibrately not allow it (otherwise you won't buy iTunes movies/TV shows).
1080p/720p mkv playback has little to do with the CPU. That's why some of the $100 Chinese tablets can do 1080p mkv playback (because it has a Mali400 GPU in it).
+1 votedeathking360 on 06/07/2012 - 23:30 ¶Actually you're incorrect aswell the a5 chip is made by samsung it is only designed by apple.

I believed he meant to say designed by Apple but used made instead. Technically speaking, it is fabricated by Samsung.

Very much personal opinion to this all. The major reason for a lack of performance within the current batch of Quad cores is that the OS is not very optimised for this purpose (and wont be until Key Lime Pie or Android v5).
http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/review/2152071/apple-ipad-vs-asus-...
(review - it is based on the T-Prime, but theres not that much difference between it and the TF-300)
Basically if you want something that converts from a tablet to a laptop, then the Transformer will win out - because lets face it, typing documents on the touchscreen sucks over a period of time.
Not to mention that the ipad2 has a crap resolution for its size. The majority of the games have been getting ported to Android as well, since most game manufacturers have realised that Android has a far better market than Apple does (overall Smartphone + Tablet market).

Tegra 3 isn't as good as you think. It is the slowest quad core CPU/GPU for smartphone/tablet CPU/GPU. Certainly, for generally purpose, it will be slightly better than A5 (dual core), but I doubt it will be better on the GPU side.
Since Asus tablet has the dock, the review obviously will mention that as a big plus. As I already mentioned, if you feel the dock is useful to you, then by all means get it. Once you take it out of the dock, however, you lose HDMI and USB OTG.
I own both i-devices and Android devices. Honestly, I am slightly pro Android. However, I try to be as objective as possible. The screen resolution is not an issue (the reivew says the screen quality is about the same between the two). Apps and games, iOS apps/games still lead by a fair margin (and the comment game manufacturers realised Android has a far better market -> really? Game makers aren't too happy about what they are getting from Android users vs iOS users. Ask Gameloft and EA. I still believe it is Apple that's laughing all the way to the bank from their AppStore earnings not Google with their Google Play). It is also frustrating sometimes that a game will only install on one of my Android devices, but not the other one (even though they have the same CPU).
Basically, a lot of the games I bought (and I like) on Google Play are not allowed to be installed with my new Android toy. While I absolutely dislike iTunes, Google Play does over-restrict a little bit sometimes.
ProspectiveDarkness on 06/07/2012 - 19:32 ¶Question for those who own the TF300: how's the build quality? Does the plastic detract from the overall feel of the tablet, making it feel cheap?
BALLE BALLE on 06/07/2012 - 19:44 ¶Just ordered one tried few officeworks but no stock available anywhere Thnx OP
Third_Gear on 06/07/2012 - 21:11 ¶Maybe point out what stores you are referring to help other people out…
+2 votesChadstone, Kew, Russel Street Melbourne, Springvale, Ferntree Gully, Highett OW's all show stock on their website. Bought mine from Chadstone and the guy said they have a couple more in stock. Rang and got him to put two away and mentioned the price match only once he handed them to me.

+1 votecrystalstar on 06/07/2012 - 23:14 ¶No it's worse. This is a 'budget' tablet that they released. It is slightly thicker and heavier. It has a slightly shorter battery life, made out of plastic cheaper feel to it, a lower quality screen among a number of other things.
crystalstar on 07/07/2012 - 00:33 ¶I decided I might for this - when I say shorter battery life the TABLET itself (pad) has .5 longer battery life then the Prime. But the dock has a weaker battery. The screen is the biggest hit for me IPS screen compared to Super IPS, if you use the tablet indoors it won't matter, it's for the outdoor users. The material of the outside chassis is a personal thing. It is barely thicker and heavier TBH so that's a pretty moot point.
As said by the person below, it actually has a working wifi and GPS and faster recharge time as the positives. Well that and costing like $350 less, lol.
Gonna go find one tomorrow XD
+1 voteProspectiveDarkness on 07/07/2012 - 00:04 ¶True, but keep in mind quite a few Prime's had trouble with wifi and GPS with the aluminium case.
crystalstar on 06/07/2012 - 23:16 ¶The price is so tempting. I wanted to get a Prime originally and I have been waiting ages for the price to drop on the Prime as the Infinity becomes closer to actually being released. Need to think whether the shorter battery life and lower quality screen is worth the money I can save getting the Pad instead.
Although I am tempted to wait for the red transformer pad to drop in price too….
croydonstan on 07/07/2012 - 00:49 ¶Got one before midnight from Officework in Fivedock, using their online stock check suggests most branches are now in stock. (five dock had 4 , now probably less than 2 as someone price matched on already)
THANKS HEAPS OP….

BALLE BALLE on 07/07/2012 - 10:18 ¶Just picked up my one from HN Its really cool got 3 years extended warranty for $70
+1 votesuper_ace89 on 07/07/2012 - 10:21 ¶its $576 now! anyone who bought it for $452.20 and have a receipt from NSW they can scan or take a photo so i can show ow?? =] pleease! thanks in advance
crystalstar on 07/07/2012 - 11:24 ¶Awww I'm so sad missed it lol. I gave Harvey Norman a call too and they won't honour the price anymore (more like the guy didn't know about this 'cheaper' price). If someone can upload one of their receipts… that would be awesome.
froz3nflam3s on 07/07/2012 - 11:26 ¶Can someone please upload a receipt either from harvey norman or from officeworks with the $476 price? Thanks :)
crystalstar on 07/07/2012 - 12:01 ¶Is the catalogue in store? I might give it a go then right now XD
crystalstar on 08/07/2012 - 00:07 ¶YEP! I got one today at about 2 PM. I went to 3 HNs and the one in Moorabin had a 'red' one in stock. I dunno whether the red one was supposed to be that cheap (think it was just blue and white) but I'm happy I got the colour I want at $476. The offer is in their catalogue, there is no way they can so no to the people were not successful in acquiring one at HN.
ennisfargis on 07/07/2012 - 12:58 ¶It still says $476 here
http://www.harveynorman.com.au/computers/tablets-readers/tab...But when you click the link it says $576
You should be able to hold them to it I'd reckon.

$452.20 if you price match it @ Officeworks - better price
