quite a good time to get a new lappie ;)

Not till after Windows 8 is released unless you want possible hardware incompatibility.

    • Can you explain what you mean by this?

    • Most people won't upgrade to Windows 8 immediately(there aren't many worth wild features atm), nor is it very likely that recent laptops will suffer any sort of incompatibility.

you use too many negatives in your sentence

Maybe the opposition leader also has an ozbargain account?

        • I will not refuse to argue against the downside connotation that this is insufferable negativity.

I prefer to get my lappies elsewhere

I wonder what type of lappies you're referring to? ;)

      • obviously the ones who sit in your lap…. ;)

  • Excludes Apple products too most likely

    • They do price match with Apple's student discount, even if you are not a student.

Both the D-Link DIR-632 & D-Link DIR-815 are cheapest than than the next cheapest place on StaticIce.

Both can run DD-WRT firmware too!

    • But reviews aren't amazing =/

  • Didn't see any gigabit switches :(

  • Thinking about the 15.6" Toshiba Satellite P850/040 Notebook, new processor plus blu-ray burner

Dick Smith never really wants to have sale. Say ACER-AS5750 should be $400 (two months ago price) after 25% sale, but even on sale now their price is still $448.

I wouldn't buy Dlink gear. The benefit of Dlink stuff is their sold by retail chains open on Sunday, but chances are if you need to change your gear on a Sunday, it's already a Dlink.
3 dead modem/routers between the family in a 5 year period.

    • D-Link means Dead link

  • Oooh, the G74 is listed on the 25% off. http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XC7938/asus-g74sx-fhd-tz130v…
    If only I didn't have a perfectly good G73…
… and it looks like it's not available anywhere.

  • Can somebody recommend which is the best buy in regards to ADSL2+ modem/router is.

      Fritzbox
      http://www.fritzbox.com.au/
Now when you are going to complain about price, remember that wasn't a part of the question.
5 year warranty, gigabit ports, USB, VoIP, Wireless N (2.4ghz AND 5), cable ready, media server,DECT base station.

      • Thanks Fritzbox, your response is appreciated, I knew I should've been more specific. I meant regarding the modem routers 'in' the DSE sale (so i suppose the Dlink models). Again, thanks for making the effort though.

If you want a modem/router, I was in HN the other day and they had Netgear's N300 (you'd think they could come up with original names for $39. That's pretty good if you want a cheapy.

  • Would this be the best router buy, save $71.00. What do you guys think. However I am afraid it is only a router and not an adsl2+ modem though. (http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XH0657/wireless-n-dual-band-…).
