they don't roll on the Shabbat.

USD $371.46 for two delivered to OZ. That's around AU$185 each delivered.

    • What about more than two? Five would come in under the $1000 GST threshold. Maybe we can get group buys going for each city.

      • I'm in for Melbourne.

        • me too…

        • Registering interest here for a group buy in Melb if someone is organising.

      • Sydney here. I'm interested in one.

Sydneysiders - I am happy to organise one. Send me a PM. I'm around 2115/2113/CBD.

      • What's "$1000 GST threshold." means ?

        • If you import over $1000 worth of goods including postage, customs charges 10% GST.

    • If using 28 degrees MasterCard..it will be around $192 each when purchasing 2 according to current MasterCard exchange rate:
      https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyconversion/index.h…
      $1USD = $0.964878AUD

      • +1

err arent u meant to multiply by 0.9648 if you use usd as base then convert into aud?

      • Actually it's: $1AUD = $1.03810US

  • +1

Ok I've done some calculations. Buying 4 at once brings it to $177.80 delivered (Buying 5 doesn't make it cheaper, 6 takes it over $1000).

Unfortunately I don't have $711 to blow right now seeing as I'm a poor student, but it'd be much appreciated if others organised group buys for various cities.

  • How would warranty work with group buy?

    • Each buyer gets a copy of the invoice. Done.

      • The invoice would only have one person's name and address on it..

  • lol macstevi u beat me to posting this deal… good stuff!

i was gonna tag a seagate goflex 1TB to it as that only costs $79.95

Am I missing something here, or is this a dupe??

This deal is 15% cheaper than your link.

      • -4

Exact same link. Have another look.

        Meanwhile… Reported dupe.

Either way, the Scorptec deal kills it dead.

        • +2

your scorptec link comes up as a Liteon LZT-256M3S. Where is that on your tomshardware link???

        • +1

The Plextor M3 is a rebadged version of that LiteOn that Scorptec are selling. All that is different is the label. It's not the same as the M3 Pro, just the vanilla m3 in the TomsHardware link.

        • Plextor M3. I can't edit my post here to find the OzBargain scorptech link even easier. 60sec effort was too hard for you. Easier to neg my helpful post.

Top right of screen, in the TopDeals section…
Here, I'll link it for you. Less mouse travel.

        • +2

          but what about reliablity?

i would choose crucial over plextor or liteon any day for ssd :P

        • @numbnuts

Why are you comparing the pick-up price to a delivered price?

A better comparison would be $199 for the Liteon vs $201 for this Crucial.

Or if you do a group buy it's $199 vs $178.

        • I find it hard to simply see the Liteon as equal to the Plextor. Maybe they are really as good, or maybe they are grade B units that fail Plextor's standard, hence sold as "OEM" one year warranty. You just don't know.

        • Why compare waiting 1-2 weeks for delivery? If you can pick-up the Crucial, grab me one too ;)

    • -1

Getting neg voted there friend, but it's still the exact same BHPhoto link -> Therefore, a dupe. Some real children on these sites.

      • That link was a month ago with price $199 + $32.26 on 07/06/2012, now price drop further on same site to $201.26. I will consider this a bargain.

        • -1

As stated several times… exact same bhphoto link/page/item. When the prices change, it doesn't mean we need to scrap all previous knowledge/discussion/specs etc every time. Everywhere else on the net would shortcut to the original and merely update the price. It's not my page or sale, it's just common sense… staff lacking.

        • honestly wtf are you on about….

  • Anyone else Melb?

  • -1

I think you guys doing the group buys are forgetting the credit card surcharge and exchange rates that the bak charges?

it's like $10+ in fees for foreign conversion with st george?

    • +2

      28 degrees mastercard

      • What are the annual fees on that card?

        • +1

          None.

        • I might have to get one then.

      • +2

MasterCard exchange rate will still add some margin to it. Current exchange rate is USD$1 = AUD$0.964878 according to https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyconversion/index.h…
I notice that most calculations in comment are done using live market rate.

        • I think you mean: $1AUD = $1.03810USD

        • +5

          Same thing lol

    • +3

a member since 5 aug 2007, you should have known better than this! 28degreecard!

      • lol not everyone has that credit card man :P

I already have 2 so no need for 3 :P

        • neosin, got to ask you why 2 credit cards is ok but 3 is too much :P

You can get a 28 Degrees or Bankwest Platinum with no annual fees for when you make purchases overseas. Agree that having extra credit cards can be time and hassle - but if you do any order of online shopping/travel - they're definitely worth it.

    • Different banks, different cards, different ways of stinging people. Many don't see an actual dollar fee, so they think they're winning. On $1000, I'd rather a small flat fee, than getting burnt on the exchange rate.

      But, ignorance is bliss.

      • +1

Mastercard rates are actually quite good

      • +4

numbnuts - unless I misunderstand you - the only one reeking of ignorance is you - and worse, self righteous ignorance.

With a 28 Degrees card or a Bankwest Platinum, you get Mastercard rate - no other fees.
With a NAB Gold (for a few more weeks) or Citibank Plus debit you get Visa rate - no other fees.
From what I've heard before, the mastercard rates tend to be slightly better than visa, but by no significant amount.

With pretty much every other credit card - you'll get visa/mastercard/amex rate … +3% or so.

So, please correct me if I'm wrong - but you like seeing the extra $30 fee? Because if you use your CBA/ANZ/NAB etc credit card - that's all you're doing.

  • +1

Aww man, I was actually in their store last week and purchased 2 at $209 ea.

PS, their store is amazing, if you are ever in NYC check it. conveyor belts with stock going everywhere!

    • lol you got ripped bad then lol!

      • +6

He got 'ripped' a whopping $8 dollars for a retail experience?

        • +1

          how did you get $8?

          209-169 = $40?????

I can't believe you got +5 votes and no one noticed?

    • I'm literally staying on the next corner from B&H. It's hugeeeeeeeeeee. Going in there tomorrow to have a look around!

      • I'm here in NYC too…went down today and grabbed one: $184usd with tax. Good enough for me!

    • +2

Take a pic and drop it here :P

    • That's it. We should have a OZB resident at B&H.

      • But, buying at the store, you need to pay an extra 9% or so New York state tax :( I was there last year, but after some quick calcs - realised for many things I wanted to buy, if grouped together, was actually cheaper to get shipped to Aus than buy in store. Plus - my luggage was already bulging from all the other super cheap stuff in NYC.

        • true, the tax makes it worse.

With all the gear I ended up buying there it would have been better just to wait till I get home and order it online.

  • man that's a lot cheaper then local, 120GB ones are like $125-30.

  • anyone spot any other cheap pc gear from there to save on postage?

  • Any group buy in syd?

    • +1

Send me your email via PM. I'm organising one. There is a maximum of 4 pcs that I'm intending to purchase (1 for myself, so 3 for others). People who chip in first will have precedence.

  • I have this model that I purchased on an early posting. It rocks! Once you go SSD you will never look back!

  • I'm organising a group buy in melbourne, anyone interested? Send me a pm. Thanks

    • ur pm is inactive mate.
how are you going to organise the payment?

      • Fixed. Sorry

    • I'm interested

  • How long does it generally take to arrive fron the US?

  • It takes around 4-6 business days. Just keep in mind that they only deliver to the credit card billing address so you can't deliver to an alternate address like your work.. Got caught out last time. Apart from that no complaints.

    • you reckond if ordered toda i should get by end of week?

      • Yeah likely.. I ordered on Monday and it was delivered on Friday.. I'm in Sydney though

    • When you say you were caught out, do you mean you put another address down and had to change it before they would ship?

      • +1

I was planning to get it sent to my work address as no one was going to be home to receive it but because of their limitation had no choice. I was only able to change the delivery address after the first delivery attempt failed.

        • +2

you can actually have them ship it to your other address. i did it all the time. sometime, they might send me an email for verification. that is it.

        • +1

Same here - I get stuff from B&H sent to my work address all the time. @tarken - do you have a US credit card? I remember hearing once that US credit cards use address verification all the time - but it's actually illegal for Aus banks to even confirm credit card addresses.

So, for their systems, I just put down my work address as my home address :P

        • Oh ok didn't know that.. I didn't want to take a chance and have my transaction declined.. Thanks for the tip.. Will keep that in mind for next time

  • I'm in Melbourne. Can I join?

    • What is the difference between the two?

      • +6

        2.5mm
        ;-)

      • -1

        Srsly?

  • +1

Do they ship to Australian Post LPO Boxes?

  • Seriously guys. If you can wait a month or two, do so.

Prices are gonna be dropping like mad until the next product release.

Imagine what lifes gonna be like in 5 years tech wise. CRAZY TIMES PEOPLE.

    • Remember only a couple of months ago when people were raving about $1/GB for SSD's, now it's just under 70c /GB. Crazy.

      • Isn't it. I'm sure it sucks for smaller SSD manufacturers but this is a grand time for consumers.

I suppose once everyones new lines come out they will either drop even faster or stall completely.

        • +1

after a month or two, you can jump out again to tell people to wait. prices are always dropping.

    • What is the next product release that makes you say this?

  • How do I know or find out if I can put this in my Dell XPS15 laptop (L502X)?

  • +2

    There you go

    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=XPS%20L502…

The laptop supports this drive which is 9.5mm

    • cheers mate, now to learn how to install this bad boy

  • So this is one of the higher tier SSD right?

I've not bought a new OS ssd just yet as the prices seem to be in freefall but I've just spent my morning recovering Windows off of a corrupt drive, so my mind has now been changed.

    • +1

Did some searching on my own, seems like not a great drive but pretty damn good for the price:

It is the best SSD on the market with the balance of speed / safety.

      • you mean pretty "dam" good ;)

      • +1

The m4 is good because it has been out for quite a while and has proven to be relatively reliable. It's much harder to tell if newer drives are reliable or not, purely because they haven't been used for that long.

For example the Liteon/Plextor M3S appears to be cheaper AND faster than the Crucial m4 with the same controller but has only been on the market for a short period of time. Therefore it's hard to assess reliability which has proven to be an issue with some SSDs.

In the end I think anything faster than the m4 probably won't provide much of a noticeable difference in day to day use, except for the extra dosh in your wallet.

    • The write rate is pretty crappy, but it's still a solid drive.

  • Good deal.

512GB m4 SSD is US$419 compared to $649 locally (PCCaseGear)
