18 positives in an hour for a 20% off sale. I bet there are a bunch of Hong Kong retailers wishing OzBargain users were as charitable to their offers!

33% is suspicious? . .wow… . . if you check out my comments, i comment on a whole ton of stuff. . u want to run stats on that too to come up with another suspicious theory?

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/10554/comments

That's a whole lot of 'random' comments just so i can vote up Koorong deals for what. . 33% of the time. . that's hardly 'suspicious'. . if it were 95% of the votes with zero comments at all, then fair enough.

you know why i vote up Koorong deals?
        1) cos i shop there regularly
        2) cos i dont know when these sales come up

        Lastly and most importantly:
        3) cos it's a deal

I take offense that you're insinuating that somehow im involved in some conspiracy to bump up Koorong deals.

Hell, probably a coincidence but take it from my perspective.

admin posts it, regular voter votes it up a second later, another admin votes for it…

          my alarm bells start ringing

33% isn't really that suspicious when you realise it's 4 out of 12. And like you said, that's over the course of four years of membership… one positive vote for this store per year.

Look at his posting history, he obviously participates in this community and isn't just a sockpuppet, so he can vote for whatever deals he wants to. That's kinda how this whole voting system works.

    Thank God for this deal!

    •

      omg; blasphemy through acronym

  •

How does 20% books at koorong get so many likes? II will waste 20% more petrol to go out to blackburn.

This is suspicious. I don't get how a deal with 30+ votes, posted by the admin, can have no positive comments?

      • -1 vote

        Yeah, pretty suspect.

How so? Don't need to comment if you like a deal. Just shows there are a lot of Christians on this site who like a bargain.

        • We audit every vote and user on OzBargain. There is no conspiracy. IMO, As with all religious based deals posted on this site, it brings out the loud, anti-religion types. People want to be able to enjoy this site without having their beliefs made fun of so perhaps why they don't comment? Who knows?

How is there dishonesty? This deal has 53+ not 5003+ what is the big deal? I don't get why so many have their panties in a knot.
Christians might have + it, then perhaps book lovers + it, people with kids +it and then there is the others who may have + it just for being a good deal. Or they like the OP.

        •

12+ votes in less than 2 hours on an average at best deal that appeals to a small market segment. Its not the amount of votes it has now, its making the front page that counts because anything on there will naturally collect votes anyway.

        • +3 votes

your latter two assumptions are redundant and should be included assumption number two.

and in the end, a bargain is a bargain. don't like religious stuff? don't buy it!

maybe a good analogy would be apple vs android: not a fan, don't buy it! if you want to be an isheep or fandroid there are better places to battle it out.

Most of my friends I can see who "Like" Ozbargain via the facebook widget are Christian. Like Juice said, they see a deal they like and the vote it up. Most don't need to comment, and most Christians know aren't particularly vocal.

What seems more dodgy is most of the comments here are from people who simply want to write something negative because they don't want to see a Christian deal posted up.

    Thanks Scotty!!

  •

A regular deal but a good deal anyway

  •

how the hell did this page get any votes? there are only negative comments!!!!!

    • +2 votes

      I don't comment on 90% of the deals I vote + for, but I only vote + when I think it's a real deal.

This one is, because on the whole books are not cheap on the whole and so 20% off is a bargain.
I often buy stocks of books for my company in bulk / several titles at once, and at the 25% off rate as it doesn't take much to get to $100 for 25% off + free shipping.

Guys, putting aside the religious angle (whatever floats your boat),is this really a bargain. The first book I saw on their page was this little beauty:
    http://www.koorong.com/search/product/amr-yeshua-g-p-taylor-...
Still can't compete with book depository (delivered):
    http://booko.com.au/products/9781860248290

Haven't seen enough in my extensive research to neg it but from my sample it is worth a neutral vote at best.

The sale is available in store as well, and without the delivery charge it's cheaper than Book Depository.
