Various Motorcycle Gear at Aldi
This was posted 10 months 14 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
It's that lovely time of the year again! Always look forward to this special from Aldi ever since I started riding. Even the guys on netrider find these specials every year pretty decent.
Great for those who want to start riding.
Notable mentions from previous years and what I think are pretty good are:
- Motorcycle jackets at $99.99 (textiles and leather)
- Kevlar Jeans at $69.99
- Motorcycle Balaclava at $9.99
- Helmets at $69.99 (I bought one as a spare or for my pillion riders, probably should fork out a bit more but these still fit Aus standards)
- Motorcycle Helmet Bluetooth kit at $59.99 (New this year, interesting how it will compare to my Cardo Scala G4. But will get one definitely for my little brother)
- Motorcycle cover at $29.99 (Bought one last year, works well)
- Paddock Stand at $49.99 (Looks like the one I bought on sale at MCS, so might be as decent as that one)
Others at netriders have also bought the midlayers and glovers and say they're pretty decent.
Also note: some aldi might not have all the specials in their store when the time comes around. Also might want to get in early in the morning since these do run out pretty fast.

+1 voteI am in no way affiliated with this company but I have bought my last 2 helmets from www.thehelmetwarehouse.com.au who have the all the big brands at a fair amount below retail.
EDIT - Just found out they don't stock Shark brand anymore… bummer.

http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ offers a good comparison of helmet safety.

They come out of a single factory in Shenzhen and this is the same model I used to get but they are selling them for more than I did. My employee over there told me the day the large order was placed and where they were going….
There are many common faults with these which is why I stopped selling them. I spent too much time on support and replacing faulty stock so I never really made much dough out of them. Just not worth the head aches and disappointed customers. There is a model which has 800m range and is much nicer and only costs like $2 more per unit. I'm surprised they didn't get those in… odd.
In short - keep your receipt as there is about a 10% chance you'll be going back in 30 days for a replacement. Take note - weather resistant! Don't confuse that with rain proof. :D

I was about to suggest to some friends to try this aldi one but I guess yet again this is another case of "you get what you pay for".

I get access to heaps of supplier deals/specials every month. I should start posting deals on here.
highon2str on 07/08/2012 - 11:00 ¶Staintune are the new Madaz it seems… Mine came with my k7 sv1000 when I bought it. Very sleek, very shiny and very loud! Doesn't look like you can baffle them either.

huntress_love on 07/08/2012 - 10:53 ¶Can anyone recommend a "non-ripe" off mechanic to service a motocross kawasaki in Melbourne?
Have been F*** over by the city and brighton shops. Not only do they over charge but they have apprentices working on it which screws up the bike.
would be much appreciated!

rip?
only reasonable way to do it is to do it yourself.
i went to racereplica, worst mechanic ever in my experience, though they might have changed as it was quite a few years ago.only one i take my bike to now is Sis from sj motorcycles in tullamarine- had a bit of an issue with Carbs on an older bike - but he is the best i've found so far and fairly reasonable on price… knows his stuff. does heaps of x bikes too - you can see how busy and how many people use him by the 80 odd customer bikes in his shop at any given time.
Third_Gear on 07/08/2012 - 18:42 ¶Go see Pete in Fitzroy:

+2 votesThe helmets are a simliar quality as something like Rjays, the first version sold were actually identical to one of the Rjays models at the time. My father inlaw bought most of his gear from Aldi a few years back and the helmet was better than my $400 KBC, the venting worked well it came with 2 visors, a spare set of check pads and a removable lining.
IMO the jackets are overpriced, you can get brand name jackets from BGW (join their newsletter for discounts) for the same money. I have an Aldi one which I got with a bike I bought and its ok, semi waterproof and warm, but it looks terrible and the way the sleaves are designed they only seal up well with mid length gloves. If you wear a set of long gauntlet gloves (like 90% of waterproof gloves) you can't get a decent seal and water and wind flow up the sleaves.
The really good things on these sales are the pants and wets. The pants are great for commuting and at the price their half to a third of everything else, they're water proof for 20-30 minutes in heavy rain. (Beyond that and they'll leak in the crutch) They're a bit too warm for a brisbane summer, but anything waterproof is. The wets are also good, they're tiny so you can fit them under the seat of a super sport. And they're better than any other pair I've tried, they still leak at the seams after a few months of use but that's still better than anything else I've found.
NB all of the above is assuming the gear is the same or similar to what I bought 2 years back.

I agree about the helmet. I saw last years helmet at Aldi and its actually more practical than my $160 Rjays helmet. Last years Aldi helmet had more adjustable vents, lighter weight and the cheek padding filled more of the space (minimising space is important for reducing wind noise). Having a spare visor is a huge plus. Most Rjay helmets don't come with a spare visor. A spare Rjays visor will set you back about $30. If its $70 for the helmet + a spare visor that means the helmet is ~$40 which about the same price as a visor!!!
The negatives for last years helmet is that it has no graphics, worse is that it highlights this fact with its glossy finish. I don't think the Aldi visor's have any special technology for anti-fog (I live in cold cold Canberra). Didn't end up buying last years helmet as it didn't fit my head.
Last years jacket looked great but the quality is dubious. My dad bought last years jacket, took it home and found that the inside chest pocket was unusable as the stitching came undone. I had been keen to buy one from my local Aldi and saw the lazy stitching too.
The gloves are okay value. They match the price. Cheap stitching with thinner than usual leather fabric (for the all-season glove). If I was looking for bargain basement pricing and didn't ride very often then these would do. The stitching should outlast the fabric which isn't long.
I didn't buy the gloves as they weren't suitable for me. I already own better quality gloves, commute daily on my super sports motorcycle (protective rating and longevity are where my value is at), plus I ride with friends. These gloves would certainly stand out as inferior compared with my other friends.
Motorcycles are a passion. If the Aldi gear gets you onto a bike then that's already good enough reason to buy.

$70 for a helmet sounds dodgy as… but as its an australian retailer is does technically satisfy safety requirements.
plus vote for those happy to gamble on safety equipment ;).
