In fact I would rate it at the lower 1/4 in term of functionality and quality in my collection. It is an awesome deal though and this will add into my collection :) 1 of 20. The downside of this T7 is it uses 4xAAA batteries. I prefer AA or Lion 18650 batteries.

+8 votesdonkeykong on 09/08/2012 - 00:33 ¶Why not? I like quality stuff similar to that of watches.

How come all the Led Lenser T7 pictures are almost black in colour while this one is silver?
EDIT: Oh it must be because of its "titanium finish" although I can't find any info on the LED Lenser website about a titanium version..
Also it looks like it's made by the same company as Leathermans.
bich.light on 09/08/2012 - 00:59 ¶I'm really terrible with choosing lights.
Can someone please tell me how these differ from standard LED you can buy from normal shops?
+1 votedonkeykong on 09/08/2012 - 08:09 ¶One word quality!
You will be happy with this torch at this price. I was wondering how much COTD got it for? I guess around $16.
bich.light on 09/08/2012 - 08:24 ¶I decided to buy one for my Father's birthday and Father's Day since he loves fishing.
This should help him :)
+6 votesGo for a headlamp rather than a flashlight for fishing, it saves losing a hand to holding a flashlight.
Most tasks will take two hands, a headlamp will be much more convenient.
ZebraLights are awesome little lights and they are waterproof, Led Lensers aren't.

This is actually kinda crap. Before I get negged, here's why:
- requires 4xAAA. Quite inconvenient
- Only 200 lumens!?! Nowadays a good 1xAA can get 200 lumens, not to mention 14500 (3.7V) torches.
- Despite owning several torches and frequently couple of torch forum, I have never even heard of Led Lensor. They're hardly the best :SA torch I could strongly recommend is the Xeno E03, which is also $29, go read up some reviews :)

2.5hrs max, compared to 64hrs max…. wouldnt the 4x AAAs be worth it?
(this isnt a flame, a serious question)
martygeeoz on 09/08/2012 - 12:52 ¶Rechargeable AAAs make it more than worth it. And you cannot compare 2.5hrs to 64hrs. I've owned a P7 torch for a couple of years, only changed the batteries once. Good light and brightness for the price.
+11 voteshighon2str on 09/08/2012 - 06:20 ¶You frequent torch forums yet never heard of led lenser??
+5 votesdonkeykong on 09/08/2012 - 08:38 ¶I don't agree with your statement. It is not crap for a few reasons:
1. Not everyone like to handle Lion battery as it is not readily available and rechargeable requires special charger.
2. It is focus able.
3. Switch interface it unique and very easy to use.
4. Led lender's quality.
+10 votesI have a few different LED flashlights, some brand name models, and a few cheap ones shipped from China.
The point that lets down many LED models, which was less of a problem with conventional flashlights pre-LED, is that the most common fault is a loose internal electrical connection so that, when you press the button, nothing happens, or you get low brightness and massive flickering.
Incandescent (pre-LED) flashlights tended to draw (relatively) a lot of current. If they have a loose connection and you tap them, once the loose connection is re-made there is a minor burning/spot welding effect and the connection tends to stay "made" and the flashlight then continues to run.
LED flashlights run high(ish) voltage but low current, so there is no such effect, and the cheaper ones use poor-quality metal coatings on the springs and connectors so they oxidise between uses. They can flicker forever and do not self-correct.Every single cheap unbranded LED flashlight I have has this loose connection problem. Every one. When I want to use them, I have to spend a minute unscrewing them, rubbing the battery connections to clean them, and tapping and rotating the parts to get them so they will sustain current and operation.
So cheap LED flashlights are really annoying.
We can argue about lumens and other performance specifications all day, but, if it doesn't work instantly at full brightness when you press the button, it is worth very little. If you buy a no-name from overseas, are you likely to send it back to repeat the same experience with a replacement ?I'd rather buy brand-name LED flashlights (like this one, for example) which have Australian distributors and some sort of warranty that means something, as well as a manufacturer who is likely to have specified quality non-oxidising materials in the product.
Purchase history:
1. Leatherman S2 from CotD several years ago; developed connection problem (wouldn't power on); was replaced by Leatherman distributor without question; replacement was later Monarch model, used daily, working impeccably on keyring, even though it gets dropped;
2. Second Leatherman S2 from CotD (because I liked the dual-brightness mode); I carry it all the time; also running impeccably;
3. Bought several LED Lensers from CotD for family members and they have all been impeccable, really bright, well-made, still functioning;
4. Buying this LED Lenser 7 now;
5. Have bought an assortment of multi-LED models from HK/China; very cheap, but every one defective in some way.
Thanks lepenseur for the details on the led loose connections issue.
This problem appear to plague some of the cheap leds torches I picked up from dealextreme. You click the button on the back, sometimes nothing happens, sometimes the light is very faint and toggles between on/off, and then sometimes it works and you get the full beam.
Is there a more permanent simple solution/fix other than pulling apart the torch before each use?
donkeykong on 09/08/2012 - 10:50 ¶Trust me it will be ok. Led Lenser is better in quality and the contact has proper spring setup to prevent the for mentioned issue.

Crash Of the Day strikes again! D:
EDIT: It works, and I've impulse bought..
Total $29.71 AUD
via paypal - how come its an extra 1cent D:

+3 votesI assume, then, that it also comes in the standard LL gift box with 4xAAA LL alkaline batteries?
If so, you really should make this information prominent somehow, because I hesitated at first thinking that perhaps the deal was for just the torch only. LL pouches are good quality and are a selling point.
backslashio on 09/08/2012 - 14:38 ¶I also hesitated because I thought it might be the torch only & there seems to be 2 different versions, one bare bones & one deluxe. Luckily my impulse got the better of me before it sold out :P
harbungler on 09/08/2012 - 08:10 ¶I had $30 store credit, couldn't use it because it demanded I use a payment method of CC or paypal, and both of those rejected the $0 payment request.
Had to buy a cheeseknife to push the amount past my store credit, and then pay $6 shipping on top of that. But now my store credit is finally gone, so I can happily never buy anything from COTD ever again.

I thought all LED Lensers come with a standard 5 year warranty? This has only 12 months warranty.
Regardless this is a good deal.
+1 voteI have 8 XM-L flashlights that all put out close to about 800 lumens. They are all reasonable quality and none of them cost me more than $50. Needless to say that they all eclipse this LL T7 in terms of output.
However, I also used to own a LL P7, and I absolutely loved it. Why? Because you don't always need more than 200 lumens, and LL know how to put a flashlight together nicely. Their focusing system is vastly superior to the standard aspheric mechanism that you'll typically find in budget flood-to-throw lights.
Finally, the titanium finish is sexy on these lights. In a nutshell, I'm glad this deal has poppped up.

OK. but I bought one anyway. Just can't resist at that price!

+1 voteSuch a painful payment process. Several times I was redirected from Paypal (after completing payment) back to COTD only to see the "sorry, we're too busy" message. Was my payment successful? Will I be charged for each of the 4 attempts I made to give you money? Nothing showing up in my Paypal account just yet… who knows?!
backslashio on 09/08/2012 - 14:45 ¶I also kept getting weird Paypal errors after I hit 'Pay now', had to buy the same item 5 times before I managed 1x transaction!
