what?! no $9 printer with free shipping?

    • +4

Finally got mine delivered yesterday :)

      • +1

I got mine delivered and free upgraded to a Wireless verison.

        Love that $9 printer!

        • +1

got the wireless upgrade too - it's awesome! wireless scanning :3

        • Also AirPrint so you can print directly from your iPhone or iPad. Just needs a firmware update.

        • could you please explain a bit more about the firmware update? is this for the printer? can you download from dell website? I have tried to setup with my ipad but cant find the printer under airprint, normal desktop pc can find the wireless printer.

          Thanks

        • or you could use google's cloud printing with any android phone. It's great. No firmware update needed

  • +3

I'd really like to see the 30" <$1K again. I think I could be coerced into buying another one.

  • How does an extra 3 inches practically double the price?

    • 2560x1600 and 16:10 as opposed to 2560 x 1440 and 16:9

      • so which one is better 16:10 or 16:9 ?
is there a huge difference in the picture quality ?

        • +3

Resolution means nothing for picture quality, you just get a bigger screen. There is no better aspect ratio, as it depends on what you're going to use it for, the larger vertical space on the 16:10 will be advantageous for graphic design or document viewing, but at the same time pushing those extra pixels will be taxing for your games.

    • +9

      That's what SHE said.

    • +10

most people say that before they buy a 30", everyone understands once they buy a 30"..

    • +6

That extra 3 inches equates to a much higher quality requirement (and therefore lower yield) in production of the LCD panels. Dell's dead pixel policy for these monitors is pretty good, and as such their production costs for these go up.

      In laymans terms:
Get a piece of A4 paper. Randomly tap a pen on it a dozen times. Now think of those resulting dots as dead pixels. Now cut the largest 16:9 or 16:10 ratio pieces ("screens") out whilst avoiding the "dead pixels" The larger the screen you want, the less you're going to get from that piece of paper. Smaller screens, you'll get more from that same piece of paper. Welcome to LCD production. :-)

    • If you are talking about the 24" -> 27", it's because they are completely different products. The 27" is a real Ultrasharp, whereas the 24" is the new M series model which… isn't. The difference matters if you are a (poor) photographer or a video dude. If you don't know what the difference is, you don't need to spend the extra.

If you are talking about 27" -> 30", it's because it's alot more screen area and a much more niche product. Personally, I think the 30" is a bit overpriced, but if you want a factory calibrated, 30" IPS with ~100% aRGB, it's your best (ie, only) bet under $2500 (NEC PA series) or 6k (Eizo CE).

      • Not very nice of them to call the 2412M Ultrasharp. Is the new U2713HM a real Ultrasharp or not? I guess the colour gamut that is one of the primary defining qualities for you?

  • Is the ink for v725w printer too costly? Retailers like OW don't sell dell ink. Is it a wise decision to buy this printer considering this?

    • +2

avoid dell/lexmark printers due to ink refilling issues.

buy a canon or hp where you can use refills

  • Big Thanks OP!

  • +4

Don't forget the Dell U2713 is now for sale at Dell which supersedes the U2711 (it has USB 3.0) for $799 + delivery. Link: http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&l…

    • +3

Does it actually supersede the U2711? From what I've read it uses lower quality panels and is targeted more at the consumer space then the professional space.

    • Cheers for the heads up - now to convince the boss.

  • +2

Just ordered a U3011 ! love the 30% price cuts, works out cheaper than my other one (from amazon)

  • +3

For those interested in the u2711 in case you haven't heard ebay is full of 27" IPS 2560x1440 monitors that are LED backlit (they use the rejected imac 27" screens that have dead pixels etc..) for ~$300 shipped.

    For example: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Tempered-Glass-27-Yamakasi-Ca…

Big thread about them on whirlpool with overall fairly positive reviews: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1922355

I was a happy U2711 owner until I heard about these not long ago - the anti glare coating on the U2711 isn't for everyone (including me) and I think I would be much happier with the glossy imac look and also the lower power usage of LED backlighting.

Not that the U2711 is a bad monitor - it's awesome and I'm sure it's way better quality but I'm seriously considering one of these catleaps as a second monitor instead of forking out way over double for the U2711.

    • So those 27" screens all have panel defects? Not sure that I'd want to buy a defective panel…

      • +2

Yeah it's not for everyone most of the ebay listings have limits on the number of dead pixels and where they can appear. They are what are called "A-" grade which is not a total defect. The whirlpool thread has lots of posts letting everyone know what to expect - sometimes you get lucky and don't get any dead pixels at all.

If you can't tolerate minor issues then it wouldn't be for you but I think for lots of people a few dead pixels that aren't in the centre of the screen are tolerable.

EDIT: There are much better listings than the original one I linked for example this one: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-YAMAKASI-CATLEAP-Q270-SE-27-L…

cheaper and has sold much more units and has a much better dead pixel policy (max 5 dead pixels and only 1 allowed in centre)

        • +2

Also beware that most of them only have dual-DVI inputs, and you must have a graphics card on their compatibility list. You could never connect these directly to laptops for example.

DisplayPort models can be found but are generally twice as expensive.

  • Thanks. I've been waiting for this to come up for the last few weeks. Just bought 2 x U2412M :D

  • How this deal compare to the samsung ? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77841 :
LED, 1920x1080, 2ms Refresh, HDMI, VGA
    Size 24"
    Resolution 1920x1080
    Refresh Rate 2ms
    Type LED
    Input Type HDMI, VGA
    Warranty 36 Month (AU)

They are all the same to me :/
Edit: Any one know when the thunderbolt will available for PC ( monitor, GPU) connection ?

    • The Samsung is not as good as the Dell in terms of colour reproduction because it does not use an IPS panel. Intel will offer native thunderbolt support on the successor to the Ivy Bridge chipset, which is called Haswell and that is expected to be released between March and June next year. If you want thunderbolt in the meantime you have to pay a premium for it. Asus have a motherboard with Thunderbolt available http://www.netplus.com.au/product/MBASP8Z77-V-PREM/Asus_P8Z7…

      • Thank you for that, im just asking, i don't want to pay anything in premium.

  • -1

not a good bargain, previous sale was much cheaper
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/72903

    • monitor prices seem to be the same price as the link you posted, i dont really see the issue is? still some good deals imo.

  • +3

Dell UltraSharp U2412M $279 has been on for years? Why doesn't it go down at all?

  • damn, want the new U2713HM to be on special, guess it won't be for a while considering it only just came out.

    • +2

I just went through adding one to cart and used this code QCJT4LWGV2$K44 it gives 15% off
and brings the monitor down to $679.15…I think i might pick one to replace one of my U2711

      • Woops, beaten… :)

      • Sorry didnt realize its for the newer model

      • Do you think the 2713 is better than 2711?

      • woah nice man, thanks - I might hold off for now but hopefully I can get one around this price or less in a few months time

  • +1

Thanks, I got a Dell U2412M. These seem to be on sale every few weeks so I was just waiting for it to go on sale again. Seems to get lots of good reviews.

  • Ordered the U2711 - been meaning to get a replacement for my 3rd monitor which is an old Samsung…

The new 27" will sit nicely between my two other U2311H's ;)

  • ordered the 2412, been waiting for ages! thx for the headsup

  • Anyone know where I can get a genuine new replacement for the inverter (power board) for a Dell 2408WFP? I don't want to trash a $700 monitor just because one small part has failed. Are these monitors really meant to be disposable? :-( I thought monitors were supposed to outlast computers …

  • The U2412M only has 8ms response time… Would this be a concern for gaming at all? or IPS is different.?

    • Seems fine to me… I play FPS games. At first I was noticing huge blur when I turned left/right but now I turned off overdrive in the factory menu and it's better. Still, nothing gonna beat a proper 120hz gaming monitor (BenQ XL2420T) for competitive play.

Factory menu -> Turn off monitor hold top 2 buttons, turn on monitor, let go of buttons - then press top button again and factory menu comes up in top left of screen.

It is a great monitor for programmers though, the size is just perfect - any larger would be too large.

  • any dell free shipping coupons..?

    • +1

shipping is in the final price i'm pretty sure

    • +2

Yes, shipping is included in the quoted price.

  • Picked up the U2412m, I hate late night web surfing! :P

    • Is this a reference to the brightness or something?

      • -1

No its a reference to "I hate late night web surfing in general" ;)

  • Most of the time I use my computer to play games (WOW and SC2).My current monitor is a 3 years old 24inch LCD and I want to replace it. Now question is, is 27inch too big for gaming? and is U2711 a good choice? Does the higher res makes huge different when playing games? Thanks.

And how good is Samsung S27A950D? MSY is selling it for 459

    My computer: I5 2500K / 8G 1600/ GTX 580

    • Can't speak for the monitors but 27" is a very decent size as a gaming monitor - its much bigger yet won't prove too dominating on your eyes unlike a 30"+ screen at close range

  • awesome just bought my U3011

  • Need advise:

    U2711 $674 or U2713HM $677

The difference I found on paper are:

    1. U2713HM are with updated connections
    2. U2713HM contrast ratio is 2 Million: 1 while U2711 is 80,000:1
    3. response time: U2713Hm is 8ms while U2711 is 6ms (this is my major concern as I play games).

So any input are appreciated. Thanks.

    • The U2713HM seems better in lots of ways but the major thing for me is that it's LED backlit which looks better and uses a lot less power.

Edit: The U2711 seems a more "professional" panel with greater response time and colour accuracy. But the U2713HM has USB3/wider viewing angle and LED backlight. I would personally prefer the U2713HM but I guess for a professional photographer/graphics designer etc.. the U2711 would be the only choice.
