Acer Aspire One (Windows XP, 120GB version) - $397 (after $69 cash back)
[1st] kwokask on 14/11/2008 - 18:07 (www.laptopdiscount.com.au)
This entry was posted 233 days ago

Officeworks will match the price from Laptopdiscount of $491, less 5%, making it $466.
After the Acer $69 cashback, it comes to $397.

Just bought one this afternoon, will be claiming GST while going overseas, which makes a final cost $355 (since GST is taken from the pre-cashback price).

edit, sorry should be 120GB, as standard with the WinXP version

Good price if you don’t mind a 3 cell battery that will not last much longer than 2 hours.

Harvey Norman has 110% price difference refund policy.
http://www.harveynorman.com.au/pricepromise/

I wonder if Acer Aspire One is sold in Harvey Norman.

Assuming the price of Acer Aspire One in Harvey Norman is the same as in OfficeWorks.
Then 110% price difference refund is effectively 10% off Laptopdiscount of $491.
$491 - 10% = $441.9 (price promise)
$441.9 - $69 = $372.9 (rebate from Acer)
$372.9 - $598/11 = $318.54 (going overseas, GST rebate, GST is 1/11 of the original purchase price $598)

I’ve always had trouble at Harvey Norman (particularly Nunawading and Knox, Vic) when trying the 110% price refund. They tend to pull every line out of the book, which only annoys me cos I end up getting up, but always with some persistence

Same here. They are very, very pedantic over this ‘price promise’. I always get told that the shop I want them to price match is not in ‘direct’ competition so they are not obliged to match them. This could be because the shop sells different merchandise, is not local (ie: not next door to them), or is not an authorised reseller! Pathetic!

rle02 on 15/11/2008 - 23:08 ¶

Correct me if i’m wrong but Harvey Norman only refunds 110% of the difference.

It does not offer 10% off the price of the cheaper item.

If you paid $591 for this item at Harvey Norman, then they will only refund you $110.00 which would bring the price to $481.

Does this make sense or have I misunderstood?

Hi econzune,

Which OfficeWorks store did you go to in Sydney?
Lewisham store refused to beat discountlaptop.com.au’s $491 by 5% because it claimed that there was no model number for Acer Aspire One in discountlaptop.com.au.
Five Docks store refused to beat discountlaptop.com.au’s $491 by 5% because it claimed that the Aspire One advertised in discountlaptop.com.au is an OLD model.

It seems that OfficeWorks can make up any excuses.

I would also be really interested to know which OfficeWorks matched the price. I am going to try tomorrow in North Sydney. Will let you know how I get on.

I went to this one:
151 Clarence St
Sydney, NSW 2000, Australia
+61 2 9279 4477
They even gave me the black one. ;-)
They wanted to check online to verify the offer. Unfortunately that $491 store is closed on the weekend (hard to believe having just moved to Australia from the US). So they made me sign up online and look at the final price. They would have normally only beaten the 491+shipping but somehow they missed that I clicked on pickup on that website. If you go on Monday, they would even wave shipping. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Useless to add: Take a printout from the online offer with you. Maybe prep an account with that $491 supplier so you can easily login when in store.

I got mine from Clarence Street Sydney, same as econzone. Brought a printout from laptopdiscount website, and some employee checked it online before they matched the price.

econzune & kwokask are you guys getting the AOA150? I can only find a cashback offer for the AOA110 for $59. Can anyone provide a link for the cashback on the AOA150 which is the model laptopdiscount is offering. thanks.

I couldn’t find a link to cashback either. But in the Officeworks store in front of the display, they say $69 cashback on this model. I also entered the details on my purchase on the Acer cashback website, and it confirms the cashback.

Does anyone have any stories about their Acer computers yet? Works fine, issues, etc?

This is the best deal I ever seen in here, I looking this laptop over ebay and willing to pay upto $585 (include shipping) but never won the auction.

I read this bargain, What a deal…

I came out to my weribbe officeworks, show the guys the printscreen of laptopdiscount (Sign in and go to payment pages - print it out (remember click delivery instead of pick up before print the screen) and officeworks staff check on computer for about 20 minutes, and approve.

At the first, He dont want give me an extra 5% discount, but I told him that my mate got exactly same on city and finally he gave me extra 5%.

With cashback $69 plus I bring it to overseas next 2 weeks, it become a really bargain laptop :D $355

Thanks a lot kwokask. You really a OZBARGAINER :D :D :D

Hey guys,

I tried this deal at Office works on Epping road, they didn’t value it, saying the warranty was different.

Today i tried going to hornsby, just bring a print out with you as stated above. The guy there was really cool and there was no problems. I even got it in black and it looks sooo much sexier then the blue ones. Thanks kwokask for posting the deal!

Hey kwokask + others, did you send in the original tax invoice to ACER or just a photocopy? I’m doing the same thing where I’m going overseas and when yuo show the invoice to customs, you will need the original.

Do you know if acer accepts a photocopy? Because i bet they will atke forever or will not return the original tax invoice to yuo

Thanks man bought one today from officeworks Bundoora (vic) - but only got price matched against the $491 which brang it down to 474.5- $69 = 40.50

@GPK:
the acer cashback promo asks for a photocopy of the receipt but you need to send the barcode from the box in (i.e. you need to cut it out of the box)

To receive your cheque, you need to mail in the following supporting documents to us before 18 Dec 2008:
1) A print-out of the online claim form (with the above Cashback Claim Number);
2) A copy of the original tax invoice; and
3) The original barcode cut out for the system and peripherals (if applicable) bearing the identical product SNID submitted.

Thanks too, Kwokask, bought my friend one, the funny thing is that the guy had given us a white version with a 160gb harddrive! We were just standing there like nooneenoo but he scanned it up, and then reduced the price down anyway. I came back two days later to try and buy the same one, but got a 120gb version instead. Oh well. Told my friend about this deal, he went to a Harvey Norman with my receipt and they price matched it, and then offered him an extra 2 year warranty for 50 bucks. Might be worth checking out if there are people out there who prefer warranties. Thanks again!

******** WARNING ******* BE CAREFUL …… LaptopDiscount.com.au Acer Aspire might be $499, but they have already claimed the $69 cashback for themselves!! It says no where on their website that no cashback applies, only after you pay for it and it says on their invoice you receive with the laptop ‘no more cashback redemption’. I contacted Acer today and they said it’s a No No! Also will be following up with local office of fair trading.

I just purchased one from them, wished I would have read this post earlier.
Thanks anyway.

Tried today price matched $520 and got about $27 off that price so about $493
Unfortunately Laptop discount is out of stock and most stores check whether the deal includes cash back.
You also have to be lucky with sales person/manager.

probably recommend at least 2gb with a good graphics card.

To anyone who purchased this notebook with cashback in acer.
I recommend you call acer cashback if you have not received the cashback yet.
Acer are very dodgy in regards to cashback.
I completed a valid claim, and recieved an e-mail telling me i would receive the cheque around the 16th of Jan.
Called them today as i hadn’t recieved it and was told “oh we hadn’t checked a box on your claim, we’ll check the box now and it will come out”
So basically they were relying on me forgetting about the cashback.
Acer Cashback line: (02) 8762 3264.
