Just over 300 specials this week from the duopoly (thanks greenpossum!), with Woolworths topping the charts with Sakata Rice Crackers 90g-100g, $1 (Save $1.33, 57% off). It's almost summer party season! Half price coffee at Coles/Bi-Lo is an awesome deal, Grinders Ground Coffee 200g, $4 (Save $4.49, 53% off). Lots of toiletries from both this week, so if you want to smell good for summer, get amongst it. It's a duopoly.
+6 votesAldi are doing a slab of Stella Artois for $29.99 on Saturday. Dan Murphy currently have it at $45.99 and the duopoly haven't seen that kind of price for a proper beer in years.
It needs external competition to come in and shake up the overpricing and cosy cons.

I'm an Aldi shopper too but the "problem" is that Aldi doesn't have "specials", just normal lower prices. People need to know this. By all means take advantage of the few real bargains of the duopoly and then go to others for the rest; that's what I do.
I know for a fact that Aldi's insect killers and stain removers were made by reckitt benckiser before they stopped production in Australia. So their insect killers were actually Mortein and stain removers were actually Napisan at significantly low prices. Don't know if its still the same or not

Yes, some of their stuff are made by the same big brand factories. I think I once caught sight of a carton of wheat biscuits labelled Sanitarium. Maybe they ran out of the house brand cartons at the Sanitarium factory and did a quick substitution. And even if they are not from the same factories, the quality is often high. But you have to try it out to see if you like the taste. I don't like the Aldi brand tomato sauce for example.

Skim each catalogue for things that seem cheap (if you do this regularly enough, you can get a sense of what is a good price for most things), compare unit price to http://www.smartershopping.com.au if Aldi sells it/a relevant equivalent.
I only click on these deals for the comments as I find the catalogues a whole lot more readable than a combined text-only list, and I don't look at percentage off, only unit price as it's a lot more meaningful imo. Depending what it is/how often it goes on special, stock up if it's a fair bit cheaper than Aldi.
I also search for things on sale at Woolies not advertised in the catalogue from their website (mostly the prices will be similar/identical instore, but there are exceptions some of the time). Again, compare unit prices with Aldi.
Aldi don't list their fruit+veg prices online but most of the time they'll be a lot cheaper than the duopoly, so buy from Aldi if you don't have a good greengrocer around (I find my local greengrocer to have cheaper fruit+veg than Aldi and a much better range but ymmv…)

And the supermarket in europe wasn't cheap one there. I was told they where 30% at the aldi like supermarket. So at the time it was around $2 in europe for what is in Woolworths $7!!! We are getting ripped of big time when u see how cheap supermarkets are in europe and the US is even cheaper.
