-2 votesI don't think ME Bank has the -flexibility- that ING Direct has, ie, of running a branch-less bank.
I suspect that ME Bank may have union ties (they as if the applicant is a union member… WHY?!?)
(OK, so ING Direct has at least 2 branches for all of AU… they -still- save heaps by -not- having costly branches.)
EDIT: Someone may have info to prove me wrong, ie, on branch-less banking @ ME Bank. I [may] stand corrected.

from http://www.mebank.com.au/personal/faqs/everyday_account.html... :
Can I open an EveryDay Transaction Account if I am not a member of a participating super fund or union?
Yes, if you meet the minimum account opening criteria, you can open an account.
&
To be eligible to apply you must be:
- An individual opening and using the account for personal use only
- At least 16 years of age
- An Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an Australian resident for taxation purposes, with an Australian residential address
+1 voteMrs Cackle on 10/10/2012 - 21:09 ¶We have been with ME for the past 12 years - great to deal with, No fees ever and help is only a phone call away. After our experience, last year we set up a home loan with them for our son. As for branches, you can do deposits at any Post office.
-1 voteevery credit card, so if you get a new card, you can get an extra movie…

http://www.oovie.com.au/free/free-wednesdays/registers.html
one movie, per card, per month…
(you just need a separate email for each card)

It's a DEBIT card, in which you pay using "CR" button, but it goes through the mastercard system.
This is exactly like the ING Deal a while back where if you opened an account they gave you $50-100.
The cost of the purchases are free, just go into coles and buy 3 x $1 lollies in 3 transactions. Easy as!

Yeah, entered all the details, only got 58% out of my Aussie Passport.
Lol I just entered my mom's detail for Electoral Roll and it went through.
EDIT: Well it's 'processing', leads me to a page 'GreenIDComplete.aspx' which doesn't seem to load so I guess I'll just wait for an email or something.
EDIT2: I didn't get any confirmation emails or anything, did my application go through? As I said above, it lead me to a non-working page so I don't know.

@Yanoflies I got an email from them with my application number etc right after I signed up and verified my passport. So I dunno about you.
It says "If you have any questions regarding your application, you can call us on 13 15 63 Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, or Saturday 9am to 5pm (Melbourne time)." -If that's any help to you.

+1 voteNo idea. I think if you just call them up saying you want to close it is enough. Most banks do that. OR if you just leave the account with $0 balance they will just deactivate it after like 6 months or so. Ive had a few like that.
There is no law against having 10000 bank accounts, esp if they all have $0 fees.

I am a long term customer of ME and have nothing but good things to say. Applied for a personal loan online recently and recieved status updates via SMS and a call when there was a query regarding details on my payslip.
Whole process took about a week and I was informed that the $150 loan establishment fee would wavied if loan was serviced by Everday transaction account which I opened and was happy to find I am also eligable for the $50 cashback and the free Pink Debit Mastercard.
+1 voteThe identity verification is a pain if you don't have an Australian passoport/driving license. If you want to go to Auspost, they require full name AND address to appear on documents. (The online autogenerated form requires address to be verified but generic auspost form on ME Bank website doesn't.) I ended up visiting State Office - just one proof of age card does it.
MasterCard Debit! It is not bad at all. I had a hard time finding a free account with this card in order to fly Tiger with no booking fee. ME Bank gives me the answer.

Number 2. under 'SWITCH YOUR BANKING' on the right side of the page:
"Paypass transactions are included."

Also got my card today. Was going to go deposit some cash into the account via AusPost but realised there is a fee for using Bank@Post. I was on the lookout for a fee free transaction account as a just in case kind of thing but I think ING is the winner by far!
Hopefully they aren't difficult upon account closure.

Yes exactly the same here - I was going to put cash in at Aus post, until I saw the $2.50 fee (at least ME bank makes it clear).
I do it all the time with ING and its great that its free.
I checked the Coles mastercard, and you can deposit at Aus post, but again with the fee.
ING must absorb the charge from Aus Post.
And the 5% paywave discount is the best.

Nope. Only 1 letter. But 2 cards sent on the same date. (ie. I was sent 3 mail items; 1 letter, 2 cards). Didnt apply twice. (although the cards do have different numbers).
A rang them up (to register for internet banking) and they told me it was a mistake and to cut up the card. When I did log into internet banking both cards were there except the mistake card wasn't linked to my account.Anyways, I have electronically transferred $20 into the account.
When it goes in I will make 3 credit transactions and when they appear I will ring them up for the $50.
I will probably keep the account as I will feel more secure in using it instead of exposing my Credit Card to the internet all the time which has $26500 limit.

It will probably take a while for the $50 bonus to be credited.
T&C says up to 60 days.
"Customers will receive the bonus credit in their ETA within 60 days of the account being opened"
I will feel a bit guilty if I close this account without using it much, just to get the $50.
When I rang up to register, the lady was very helpful and nice.

Noticed some saying "New ME Customers Only".
The terms and conditions include…… "Existing ME Bank customers who already hold an ETA on or prior to 19/09/12 are not eligible to participate"I am an existing ME customer and just applied for the EveryDay Transaction Account (ETA), we already have a loan and ME savings account. I am expecting $50 for opening the ETA :).
+1 votei got paid today
transaction descriptions could be more verbose
a nifty feature which i noticed (and what other banks should do) is it lists declined transactions (eg insufficient funds) in the transaction statement, so you know if someone's been trying to charge your card

chiefbodge on 08/12/2012 - 17:28 ¶Made my purchases all on the same day at the same time (self serve checkout) on the 13th of Nov and still haven't got the $50 :( I hope it comes - I am pretty sure I have adhered to all the terms and conditions.
