    I have edited the post with more info on the disk + enclosure. I think both the drive and enclosure are Western Digital so it is not those $20 brandless made-in-China 3.5" HDD case (although very likely it's also made in China).

    Cheapest elsewhere is $195 according to staticICE so that's 5 cents saving…

    Also note that these are 8MB cache drives, whereas the latest SATA2 500GB drives from Western Digital have 16MB cache.

    8Mb cache doesnt make big different though, but one thing to consider is the HDD likely has IDE, not SATA interface

    Hey, the cheapest elsewhere $195 is actually a store in WA. I might give the store a visit tomorrow and save myself some shipping cost :)
