DSE: Xbox 360 Arcade Console for $238. Sale on from 3rd Dec to 15th Dec

250

Just saw this in the latest DSE catalogue that I received in the mail. The catalogue doesn't seem to be published online yet. The deal is on page 10.

Xbox 360 Arcade Console for $238.

Great price even when considering that the rrp has dropped to $299. No wonder they were giving these away with their TV's in the last catalogue.

I'd hope that these consoles would still be eligible for this deal -> http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7169 (hopefully with the 3 month live subscription) but I'm not 100% sure since they already come with a 256MB memory card. If anyone gives it a go please let us know of the results. If it works then that's a pretty sweet setup: $238 + $25 = $263 for a console and 20GB hard drive. No headset or HD cable though but you can buy that separately.

  • all current 360 have a HDMI output as standard., all you need to get HD output from an Arcade is a $10 HDMI cable. Headsets are free if you buy a Live kit (with 12 months subscription) and you have no real need for a headset without a Live subscription anyway.

Bottom line, this is a great deal.

Why no HD output?? These must be really old stock!!

Or do you mean it doesn't come with an HDMI Cable perhaps?

If it's new stock with the 65nm graphics processor that runs cooler, I'm there. That's just too cheap to ignore..

Bundle with Guitar Hero World Tour for ~$500..

    • Correct, It has HD output but I meant that it doesn't come with a HD cable (I think the cable with the Xbox 360 Arcade just RCA). Easy fix by buying a hdmi cable or alternative HD xbox cable.

  • "If it works then that’s a pretty sweet setup: $238 + $25 = $263 for a console and 20GB hard drive. No headset or HD cable though but you can buy that separately."

I thought the arcade version didn't have the hard drive…?

    • Yep, Arcade version doesn't come with a hard drive but if you take a look at the link I posted for the earlier ozbargain post you'll find a way to redeem a refurbished 20GB hard drive for $25 including shipping from Microsoft. They're doing this because they want people to be able to take advantage of downloaded content and online gaming (i.e. more money for them in the long run).

  • i knew i should have waited before i got my xbox XD

  • george.. the arcade version didnt come with a hard drive.. however, if u go to the xbox official site, u can purchase a 20gb for $24.99… (refurbished drive, deal created to take advantage of the new xbox dash)..

  • If this is old stock, then that is excellent news for modders. If this stock was manufactured before april 08 (before the liteon drives), then you are able to mod it. Anyone know when the manufacture dates for this stock?

If someone can confirm that the manufacture dates are before april 08, I might be tempted to buy one of these just in case my current 360 gets banned from live in the future.

  • More than tempted to buy this now, or maybe wait for an even better deal ?
Maybe JB will price match this to even lower ?
    anyhow great post +1

  • what a great deal - too bad I've had my 360 for 2 and a half years now =)

  • Shit I am really getting too excited about this !
Can anybody not upload a scanned image from the catalogue , The online one isn't up yet
To those who own an Xbox 360 ? is this a good Media centre (if using with a 1TB External HDD to mostly play divx/mp4) ?
What other accessories would one want to buy (apart from 20GB HDD, Media Remote )?

    • The item is linked to the DSE website my post above.. (second post)

Not sure you can use the XBox as a Media Centre with just a HDD.. I think you need a Media Centre PC on the same network as the XBox.

The 360 is a Media Centre Extender, not a media centre of it's own right.

      • From the Wiki … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360
"Music, photos and videos can be played from standard USB mass storage devices"
        also here http://www.8bitjoystick.com/archives/jake_xbox_360_and_usb_h…

I just started researching this today, I hope someone can confirm

        • The Xbox 360 is just like the PS3 and will work with any UPnP server (eg. the free TVersity software - info and guides, including Xbox 360 ones, here: http://tversity.com/support/). This will allow you to stream video, audio and photos to the Xbox 360 from any PC (or portable storage device) with the UPnP server software installed.

The Media Center Extender functionality is a bonus feature that works with Windows MCE or Vista Media Center, basically giving you almost full functionality of MC within the Xbox 360 (including access to your PC's TV tuner card, watching through the 360 or scheduling recordings and watching them - haven't tried it myself, but this guide provides some good info on the Extender functionalities of the 360: http://www.gamingtarget.com/article.php?artid=4893).

          • @DVDGuy: Ah, that's good to know..

I was looking to buy a new PC to upgrade my media centre which struggles with HD content. I think there's too much other stuff on there now as I use it as a PC as well as a Media Centre..

Now I can just use the media centre PC more as a back-end server..

  • are you sure this one comes with hdmi port?

    • All acarde models have a HDMI port but not a HDMI cable (read: buy one $10)

  • This does come with a hdmi port but doesnt support 1080p?

Is this deal legit as if it is i might go buy one :)

Can the OP support a scan of the catalogue?

  • Guys… I work for Dick Smith and I have actually set up one of this on display the other day. This unit DOES NOT have a HDMI connection. Apparently there are some versions they do and some they don't but majority of these units don't have a HDMI connection.

    • great…. not tempted any more !

    • stfu

all acarde versions (READ: ALL) have hdmi ports. Ask a real dick smith employee

      • Well its possible that the odd store has old stock, but in all liklyhood most will be HDMI. If in doubt, ask.

edit: sorry I'm thinking of the core. Yeah I think ALL arcades will have HDMI.

  • Using the link: http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/product/YG11…
you can get one now for $250 delivered.
Other stores will have to price match and that's where you may be able to get a HDMI version :-)

  • +1

OK, just bought one from JB Hifi. After a little bit of fussing around they finally matched the price. Wouldn't beat it unfortunately and I wasn't prepared to drive all around town for what would probably only be a $5 saving at best.

The good news though is that they matched it with a model that does have HDMI.

It's also manufactured in 2008 with a 175W power supply which pretty much means it's 65nm falcon version I believe :)

I've ordered the hard drive, sadly it's AU$35 and US$25. Still a good deal, thanks Bernie_G!

Anyone know any good deals for the HiDef pack so I can use that HDMI port?

    • Great .. will try this on weekend … Good one
Just get an HDMI cable from MSY/ebay for $10 .. all are the same

      • Cheers, thanks mate!

    • RE the HiDef pack, hack up the provided component AV cable and buy a $10 HDMI cable as suggested earlier.

    • There's a new version just out, Jasper.. has a 150W power supply and runs cooler than Falcon.

  • do xbox 360 have wireless support? eg i hook this up to my router?

    • +1

you can buy a wireless adapter for it. I think there are some unofficially supported 3rd party USB dongles as well as the official 360 one.

  • I just picked up a copy of the catalog from Dick Smith in commercial rd South Yarra with the advertised price of $438. I went around the corner to EB games with it and they price matched. I got a xbox with HDMI.

    • you mean $238 .. and was it Jasper from EB ?

  • JUST BOUGHT ONE! from dick smith. HAS HDMI port

    • +1

All, Suggest that you check the unit b4 you take it out of the DSE store. Sent the wife to buy one from the DSE store in Chadstone and when I opened it up in the evening, no HDMI (no major issue for me, but) manufacture date….August 2006!!! Red Ring of death time!!! So I'm off to DSE to exchange or to get a refund.

  • Hey, I went to Dick Smith. It has no HDMI. Then shop around EB Games (Eastgardens. Sucks, they can’t price match as the new model comes with those two crappy games. So the two items are not identical same lame excuse with BigW) and JB Hi Fi has no stock of that particular model. Went to Harvey and they really did match the price with the new one without much fuss and lame excuses. Manufacturing date Oct 2008, still comes with 175Watt power not 150W.

    • Same story. Went to Dick Smith Bondi Junction and they have only old stock. So I went to Harvey Norman and they refuse to match the price because of that 'two crappy games' reason. Then I went to EB Games and they matched the price (and they were aware of the difference between their arcade and dick smith's offer!).

175 watt power, has HDMI and manufacturing date Sep-2008

  • Yeah went to Check here in Knox City VIC, salesperson said they had many in stock , I asked him if I can have a look at the box, so he brings one out
Old packaging evident , since it had Harry Potter: Order of Phoenix , picture at the back . I ask him if it has HDMI port , he goes " Yeah they all do"
The box had no indication, all it had was the same comparison table b/w Arcade, PRO & Elite , as on Xbox website
So didn't buy it assuming it was "Old Stock" .. but tempted to try and get it price matched today !

  • EB games in Rundle Mall Adelaide price matched no problem……
manufacture date 10/2008…..despite Harry Potter packaging.

Has 175w power and HDMI port - also got the sega tennis game……….

  • Got mine from Harvey Norman to Price Match Harry Potter Packaging but has free game Sonic Tennis Arcade Bundle Picture.

Has 175W power Falcon as well plus HDMI port PLUS Sonic game and arcade live games they got rid of UNO though but Sonic is way better.

Manufactured Date 2008 / OCT / 21 = anyone find one that is made after the 23rd October 08 Arcade bundle as these seem to be quite elusive and hard to get they come with the 150W New Jasper GPU.

2 questions if anyone can help me ? =)

now i need to get a ethernet cable headset piece and HDMI cable for my naked arcade bundle to spice it up, anyone know where to get maybe all of those in one pack or seperately, any store recomendations and what to look for and get would be appreciated.

The Hard Drive site for getting a hard drive for US 25 or Au $35 where does it say it's refurbished ? I thought it was new hard drives anyone fill me in thanks.

  • Hi all,

Could anyone advise me which store in Melbourne should I go to find a XBOX Arcade HDMI model?

    Thanks,
