Belongs in the forum IMO. Also, what pissy weak beard needs only 3-5 cartridges per MONTH?

    • +3

Maybe they're young, or they're part Asian? :P

      • +7

As an Asian, I can confirm this. A Gillette Fusion razor lasts about 6 months to a year for me ;)

        • I get more value from disposables. Each one lasts close to a month and does the same job as the expensive shavers.

        • +1

Schick Titanium blades last me the same (and I'm not Asian). Even when I replace them I cant tell the difference.

        • Lots of Japanese guys can grow full hairy Ned Kellys if they want to. Depends on the person/genetics.

        • agree re Titanium. It would be embarrassing to state here how long I've been using the current one….

    • +9

Did you read the post? It's a coupon code which gives you one month free. 3-5 cartridges is fine for most people, it equates to one per week, which is 3-4 shaves a week for me which is fine.

A more appropriate question would be, what kind of pissy ass neckbeard loser complains about something so trivial?

    • According to Gillette, 1 cartridge can last 5 weeks.

So you are either a Wookie or your not drying your blades properly.

    Damn fine promo video.
And cheap rasors at the perfect time, just after finishing movember.

  • Has anyone had the chance to try any? I'm tossing up between the 4x and the executive.

    Brilliant promo video

Typical that in the US they pay one dollar a month and we pay four?! Seems fair.

I don't want to steal sales from these guys but you don't really need to use a new blade every week/month, I have facial hair like a yeti (european background) but I only use ONE Gillette Mach 3 every 6-8 months thanks to this simple trick:

    http://lifehacker.com/5502841/extend-the-life-of-your-razor-…

    • +1

To be fair, it's $1 plus shipping in the US, vs $4 incl. shipping here.

    • Scratch2k - I do this too and it really works. Even as a hairy half-caste Indian (other half is a line of hairy Germans) I still go through only one Mach3 blade every few months, even shaving 3 times a week, simply by dipping my blade in a jar of methylated spirits after each shave/clean/dry. I use an old toothbrush first to get all the gross hairs out of the blade, too.

Moisture is literally the only thing making your disposable blades disposable. I like the idea of the Dollar Shave Club but at $4 for a shitty razor that doesn't look any better than a 30c BIC disposable (which can be used a few times itself before going blunt from moisture, if not otherwise abated), it hardly seems like good value. Maybe if the executive was $4 a month and gave you more than 3 blades per month…which I can't see lasting without the metho trick anyway!

      • simpler still - just go Titanium. No need for drying / jar of meths / jar of oil.

    • Ow wow, this is awesome, haven't heard about that one, can't wait to try it, thanks heaps!

    • +1

Reminded me this comment from @realfamilyman here:

Also keep a disposable razor in an old jar with some vegetable oil so the blades last for months (I bought a pack of 20 before our second son was born. I'm still using the same pack - and he's 12).

Using the same pack of disposable razor for more than a decade…

    • DUPE! lol seriously did you read the post?

Oh god - that promo video made me want to poke my eyes out.
It was a straight rip-off with all the humour replaced by corporate media wankery.
If you want to support a company sponsoring Today Tonight, ACA and Alan Jones - then aussieshave is for you.
For the same money I'll be going with the creator.

        • +1

Not to mention dollarshaveclub's product looks much better quality compared to aussieshave which looks like they're from reject shop/$2 store

        • Yeah, I don't like the look of the cheapest option. For me the the issue is getting the cleanest shave without rasping half my face off. I've opted for the middle ($7) version. Going to work with the "I've just used my face as a skate board deck for tricks that didn't quite come off look", kinda defeats the purpose of shaving in the first place.

  • A true OzBargainer would be using an electric. ;)

    • I have recently switched to blades from electric. Too much hassle to clean and maintain even with cleaning kits. Don't cut as close either.

      • I bought a good philips years ago. I could never get a decent shave with it. Always looked like I'd shaved with a razor - the day before.

I don't know about a true ozbargainer, but I'm a true cheapskate… I received a Braun eplilator from freecycle for my wife. Maybe I should use that instead and make my last few disposable razors last another decade, LOL.

    • Someone is copying someone there, the websites are very similar.

    • I think you have that around the wrong way mate. One Dollar Shave started in July 2011 in the US and have now started in Australia.

Also I am pretty certain the shavers are not "Aussie Made"

      • haha the boxes in the background in the video on the aussieshave site are clearly made in china shipping boxes but I think he means at least a portion of the money is going to an Australian business rather than to the US/China.

Both offerings look identical anyway, the base model on both is $4, (the aussieshave one is $1 PLUS $3 shipping, the dollarshave is $4 including shipping).

        • The "supreme" blade looks exactly like the one they sell at Aldi for $7.99 for 4 blades and i'm quite happy with the product. "The executive" from dollar shave club looks a bit more premium than the Aldi blades, so that might be worth a try.

        • I thought the same thing about the similarities between the Aldi one. I found the Aldi one went blunt very quickly and the protective strip faded to fast and also stained towels when drying it. Happy to try them out and worse case scenario I have lost $10.

        • There's a massive difference between "factory" and "warehouse", unless I missed it nowhere have they stated that the razors are made in Australia.

  • I don't understand the 'free blades for life'…
You are paying $10 a month, only receive one handle… How are you getting free blades?

I joined up just really didn't understand that statement.

-EDIT- Gomo, put in a referral link ffs.

    • +1

For every person you refer you get a month of free subscription, refer 100 people and you get 100 months worth of free razors, 1000 friends = 83 years of free razors, that's a life time.

      • By not having his referral id in the original post I'd guesstimate that he would have had at least a years worth.

        • I couldn't work out how to change it to referral link as I haven't actually signed up for this yet.. I gather once you signup your given your referral link?

        • Yes, then edit your post and put it down the bottom of the description. Message me if you need a referral code for when you sign up ;)

  • Not a deal, better to head to http://www.mensbiz.com.au and pick up a double edge safety razor like a Merkur 34c and a 100 pack of Astra blades for $20 and a tube or two of Proraso Shaving cream and you will get a good 2 years use out of that setup.

    • -2

Are you dense? The Merkur 34c is a double edge razor, not a cartridge filled razor.

      • I know the difference and DE are way better.

        • That's your opinion, not a fact - which is why your assertion is so stupid.

It's like someone posting a great deal on a Ford - then some idiot jumps in and says "NAH GET A HOLDEN IT'S BETTER"

  • Just got my first shipment and in my opinion the executive is much better than the fusion I have been using.

Very happy with the decision I made.

    • I've received mine got the 4x and the executive.

The handle for the 4x in my opinion is far better than the executive, but then the trimmer blade on the executive is really good and far better than the Gillette fusion's.

I haven't used the 4x yet but I have used the executive and it's a very good razor, I was pleasantly surprised by my first shave in over 4 months (I'm 24 and the hair on my cheeks has just started growing at a rate a 15 year old would be proud of).
I didn't experience any pulling and it didn't bite my face once. Very happy and well worth the $10.

Now I just have to wait several weeks for the hair to grow a few mm's so I can try the 4x.
