    good price for cheap speakers

    • +24

      Do you mean cheap price for good speakers?
      lol :)

      • It's very funny when things are still cheaper buying out side from Ausie even when you pay $111 for the item and $145 for shipping. :)
        No wonder I see the same closing down sale banner at one business closer to my home for past 4 years and I've been there few years back prices were ridiculous in side even if you forget the banner out side.

  • Just ordered mine on Friday just got a email from ups will be here tomorrow. Great buy

  • +2

    Soo cheap.. must resist..

    EDIT: keep in mind the colour in the photo is not the actual colour of the speakers. Just FYI.

    • -1

      It can't be far off the colour…

      • Not sure what that is supposed to mean, but the colour in picture is black. The actual colour is "wenge".

        • +2

          The colour of the speaker cloth is black. The colour of the housing certainly isn't the same colour…

          They look pretty damn "wenge" to me.

        • Happened to view it on another computer, and the color is completely different. There is no hint of brown/wenge on my cheap laptop, it's black cloth with a lighter black housing. So I guess it is more of a "be cautious of it looks black to you" warning then :P

    • +1

      I ordered this set and received them a few days ago. The color is the same as the picture. It's type if a dark wood grainy brown sort of colour. The photo doesn't represent it very well but it is the same

    • +1

      how is that a pity? Find a set of speakers this good locally for $275 let alone $111

    • +1

      Coming a long way, some local places charge close to that for delivery!

    • +4

      When i am buying stuff, when A (price) + B (delivery cost) = C (total price). I don't care figure A and B, i only compare C to other stores or others product. If you find a better one, please lets us know.

      • +2

        It's what I keep telling people. It's the landed/delivered price that matters. If you're happy with that then go for it.

    • +5

      Fellas, chill!

      Perhaps I ought to explain myself better.

      Pity that the postage is high, when compared to some Amazon TV purchases (a couple of LGs for 40 pounds delivery), and would've been mega awesome it it wasn't so high!

      A +ve vote (which no one noted) coz overall its a great deal!

  • +3

    Anybody know of a cheap sub to match these speakers? The other OZB thread alluded to a Jamo 210, but couldn't get it to post to aus :(

    • +2

      Add to that a decent av reciever. This is everybody's homework for the holidays, so be on the lookout people. Get crackin!

  • Every time I see these getting cheaper, I am so tempted. Just the colour putting me off. Wish they had them in black at this price.

    • I plan to paint it, can't be that hard!

      • +1

        Can't be that hard to make it looks worse?

  • +1

    i've got a pair of jamo 30's in my office. barely use them. heavy as anything. nice quality speakers.

  • +1

    Bought this few months ago from Amazon when it was $3xx. Pretty happy with the sound and build quality for it's price. (pair this with my old Denon (10y) receiver, old Jamo Sub). Quite hard to find a better speaker in these price range.

  • +3

    Who pays for shipping if a faulty speaker has to be sent back to Amazon?

    Anyone take out the 2 year warranty for $10.98? Sounds worthwhile if it covers us here in Australia.

  • +1

    These look amazing. Can someone recommend a good amplifier or receiver to go with these? Thanks in advance

    • seconded

    • +1

      Sony SDR-HD820 is on sale at amazon.co.uk for around 222 GBP delivered (~$360 AUD).

      I've yet to receive mine but I doubt it would be a poor choice. Currently eleven left in stock. Worth a look for sure.

      • +1

        correction:
        Sony STR-DH820 is the correct model.
        That's DH (not HD) in the model name :)

  • Jamo speakers and a marantz amp are perfect together :)

    • thanks, know the best place to pick one up ?

      oh wow. the amps are way more expensive than the speakers

      • I just use a Samsung Bluray/Home Theatre for an amp along with the passive sub from the Home Theatre, and it all works great. Saved me having to buy an amp and sub. Igot these for $18 more but am happy that I received these speakers before Christmas. They didnt take very long to arrive, just 3 days!

  • +1

    OK, Jamo 210 subwoofer is ~$180 (+delivery)(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BE81BQ/ref=ox_sc_act_ti…)

    Or would this one be better?
    http://www.amazon.com/Acoustic-HD-SUB10-Definition-Powered-S…

    Still need a suggestion for an amp…

    • +1

      I do not think either sub can be shipped to Australia as it is not fulfilled by amazon but another store. For amps not sure if you have a Harvey Norman seconds store like the one in Dandenong Vic, there are quite a range of amps at steep discounts, also if you can bargain even better.

      • Going as far as I can (without actually paying for it), there is no sign saying the Jamo 210 can't be shipped. It adds $100 on to the postage of the previous $145 from this deal making the complete speaker set $527

        • +2

          i didnt actually check your links but be careful that subs you are looking at on amazon arent 110 volts.

        • I tried ordering but said they wouldn't ship to Aus. Different voltage as well so not really worth it.

  • lol Actually dropped in price again now its $107.92 that's $249.00 delivered

    • I just bought for $107.92, but mine was $253.35 delivered. oh well, still a bargain.

  • Is this coming from America or Europe? If America, then it may be a problem due to America using 110 volts. Can anyone confirm the power specs?

    • +1

      There's no amp/receiver that comes with it. Have to provide your own.

      • my bad, 1:20am and I'm not thinking clearly, cheers.

    • Anyway, nowadays most electronic items seem to be dual voltage 100-240v. Saves the manufacturer from making 2 separate products just based on voltage.

  • +2

    One review states: Jamo has compromised on the floorstanders' build quality. They're lighter than you'd expect and there's a hollow sound when you tap 'em, none of which screams 'audiophile'. Jamo's designers cleverly divert attention from this with a dashing design – industrial grey panels below the removable grilles are set into a tasteful black ash finish (also in White Ash and Wenge).

    These are also known as "Energy EF-500" … so these speakers are known to be rebranded. So what does that say?

    Also, apparently these have been on Newegg previously for $100 with free delivery in the US!

    • "These are also known as "Energy EF-500" … so these speakers are known to be rebranded. So what does that say?"
      ~~~~~~
      Part of the Klipsch Group (owners of the Jamo brand).
      Probably just good business sense to exploit the plebs for all they're worth under different brands while reducing the real need for additional engineering (which costs real money).
  • +1
    There is a review on Amazon from someone who purchased these recently: "Truly a low end system… I had these for about a month, they sound just ok for music and acceptable for movies. they sound congested, boxy, and muted highs, not very good bass. etc. I would have kept them anyway but my problem is that the center and surrounds make a cracking noise if played remotely loud in my small room. Ive had many speakers in my time and have never had this happen with speakers before."
    • +1
      At that price they are low end. Some speakers cost thousands for a single speaker. Still, a lot of people are very happy with them too. It just depends on your needs.
    • Whoever wrote that might receive faulty centre and surround speakers and didn't know what a subwoofer was for.
      • Or perhaps not set the resistance to 6 ohms…
      • Exactly. For every 500 5star reviews, theres always 1 or 2 1 star reviews saying how horrible/the worst! something is. Take these with a bucket of salt.
  • 2 questions 1) what sized room are these designed for and 2) what happens if you are not home when they deliver?
  • These are way better than bose :)
    Unity1, I believe they get dropped off at Australia post, that's how amazons stuff get posted when they arrive here.
    • No, they will not drop these at Australia Post. They will try deliver 3 times and then take it back to their warehouse where you will have to pick it up. You have the option of specifying on the failed delivery card to leave in a specified spot around your house though.
      • Mine drop off to startrack local depot still pending pickup.
        Anyone have receive these speakers can comment on colour?
  • I had better make sure I am at home at the time. I don't think all those boxes will fit into my car. Does Amazon give you an option what to do with your order if you are not at home at the time of delivery? Because on other occasions my order has just been left at my doorstep.
    • I received both the sub (from Amazon UK) and the speakers (in one big box) on the same day, 7 days after ordering via UPS (speakers arrived in the morning, sub in the arvo). They both fit in my tiny little '92 Barina; had to put down the back seat for the large box, but otherwise they fit just fine.
  • Nope, some postal drivers get lazy and drop it off and forge your sig, very unpleasant for expensive items, last time they never even tried to have it delivered and left it at the postal office, the workers complained that it was in there way :/
    • My parcels come with a message written on the label saying to leave in a secure place if no one is present. So where is that authority coming from is it from Amazon or is it from Australia Post?
  • I emailed amazon uk and jamo directly asking for the voltage input specs on the sub 210 and both refused to give me an answer.
    • +1
      I ordered the 210 sub from Amazon UK, and I can verify it is 230V.
      • How much was this delivered?
      • champ thanks how does it sound?
  • Mine arrived a couple of days ago, but I am waiting until Santa days I can open the box. All 5 speakers are packaged in a single carton, pretty hefty. I already have a Jamo 220 and Jamo s210 Prestige fronts so I can do a direct comparison. My new Denon receiver has that 'microphone auto-setup' magic on board. I will let you know how it goes.
    On another note - reckon Amazon will give me $20 since these have dropped in price?
    • Will the box fit in an average sized boot? Or back seat? How heavy is the whole package?
      • Maybe I have a hatch imprezza and it fits fits with the seat down, I cant wait to get them home and try them out.
  • +2
    For those wondering. Postage is via ups. This is super quick and they will make three delivery attempts without you taking any action. However be mindful that if you miss a delivery on Friday, you won't be able to pick up from their warehouse on the weekend as they need one business day to organise to have it ready.
    Also the single box fits in the back seat of a medium size sedan.
    • Bought one last last week, it super quick shipping and it arrived on Monday 17th, ordered on the 10th.
  • Bought this for my parents, thanks very much for the info on this OP & others, shipping on 24th cost about $50 extra and lot better than anything I could pickup locally for the price range for sure.
    I will have to hunt a Jamo sub now though:P
  • +1
    FYI - for those who wanted to buy Jamo SUB210, check out Amazon UK as they are able to deliver it to Aus.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jamo-SUB210-200W-Active-Subwoofer/dp…
    UK has the same voltage like AUS so it should be no problem, all you need is just a power plug adaptor.
    Price of item including postage is around GBP 200 which is around AUD$ 310 at the current forex rate.
    Has anyone seen a better deal than this? Any other recommendation for an affordable sub?
  • These came up at $251 for me this morning. Perfect ipgrade for my crappy satellites, unfortunately with a family and more importantly wife I can't spend the couple of grand I want to :)
  • Would this Wharfedale sub be better than the Jamo one?
    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/jb-hi-fi-home-audio/speakers/wharfe…
    • +1
      I bought these speakers last week and have that sub there. work well togeather. I picked up the sub at the 40% off Hifi at JB so don't pay that price for it.
      • Yeah was going to JB today to try and get it at the 40% off price otherwise I'll just wait till they have it again. Not in a rush.
        That Wharfedale sub do the job well enough for the $250 you paid? Or would you say even $250 is too much for the output you get from it?
        Thanks
  • I spoke to live chat a day after I made the purchase to discuss the colour and how it was misleading and asked if they could deliver me an ash black copy. Unfortunately they couldn't but instead refunded me $20 therefore i end up paid $253 for the speakers. Fingers cross hopefully the colour is not as bad as I think it is cos I really dislike brown especially when it comes to electronics
      • +1
        Jamo (or rather their parent company, Klipsch) are clueless.
        The speakers look NOTHING like that colour.
        It wouldn't surprise me that the discounting we see here is due to low demand after seeing their website pics.
        Assuming that the photographer and web people they hired are not sniffing glue, either they changed the colour in later production runs or their web team really are sniffing glue, along with those who approved the photos to be published.
        These speakers can best be described as "almost black without being totally black".
        Basically, you have very dark black bits in the woodgrain along with very dark brown bits. The overall effect is a very dark and understated faux woodgrain that has no trouble blending in with black components; it doesn't stand out half as much as people make out or half as much as that photo suggests.
        I happen to think it looks far better than solid black without being solid black.
        It's 'total win' to me.
        But then I love me some faux wood and I am sick to death of solid black, let alone piano black finishes.
        Don't get me started on reflective black.
        "Wenge" might as well be called WINNING to me. It's excellent.
        You may well find yourself thinking the same. Or not.
        It all depends on you.
        Again, JAMO's parent company, Klipsch, are clueless and are doing themselves a big disservice by not generating enough lust for Wenge.
        :)
          Ludwig : No! No! No! … You vill all of you, regret the day that y'ever mocked my
          complexion. I shall return and vreak my re-wenge. [Evil laugh]
          Blackadder: No, you will die and be buried! [throws knife]
          Ludwig: Aah!
  • can anyone tell how these speakers are performing.. i have got mine but still haven't purchased the av reciever..apart for yamaha rxv373 i couldnt' find anything.. so will wait till boxing day if anything comes up.. if not will buy the yamaha one.. i am finding really hard to wait till boxing day by the way..
    • Buy this:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/60111
      Should still ship to Australia. Well worth the cash!
    • Search amazon.co.uk for Sony SDR-HD820.
      Around $360 AUD delivered (after conversion).
      Hopefully they haven't all sold out by the time you see this.
      • Man, I should really limit my mistakes ;)
        correction:
        Sony STR-DH820 is the correct model.
        That's DH (not HD) in the model name :)
        Anyway, sure beats buying it here.
        • I had a look and they don't post to Aus?
          Edit: found it, 2 left… and still US power?
          5 left in stock as I write this.
          Good luck.
        • lol derp derp. I only read your second comment because that had the corrected model number. I'm feelin' like a bit of an idiot now :P
        • CyberGenesys,
          Hah. Easy mistake.
          I wish I could talk but I got the model number wrong in several posts here.
    These jamo is not good. I went to jb hifi to listen to it before purchase on amazon and the sound quality is very low end. The bass is not clear but a bit muddle. The music does not sound clear and crisp. Try out listen to the dali speakers and u will see the difference
    I was about to buy these jamo last week when it's on sale but was not impress by its sound quality even though its a bargain.
    • +1
      Perhaps poorly setup in store?
      • i would agree to it.. shop is not always the best place to judge the speakers..
        • Not really because the dali also in the same open room as these jamo
        • I doubt the Dali were the same price? Hard to compare a Hyundai with an Audi.
      • I'll bet they didn't configure the receiver as 6ohm, which these speakers are. No wonder it sounded rubbish!
    • Well they are $107.92 USD for a full 5 piece set up… what do you expect for that price? They are el cheapo's! Still an awesome way for those who want to build an entry level home theatre system.
  • I couldn't resist buying these last night, even though I had no intention of buying a hi-fi system any time soon :D ..better start looking at amps I guess. $249 is a steal and the moderate quality shouldn't phase me, I'm half deaf anyway! ;)
  • I got mine and they are mostly setup (just not the surrounds). Got some 14AUG cable for the fronts from Jaycar, although you should just order direct from eBay right now if you have ordered the speakers (much cheaper, as in 1/2 the price of Jaycar). These DO NOT come with ANY speaker wire.
    The colour itself is just fine IMO, it's a nice dark brown (I'm usually a black only guy for electronics, but the dark drown compliments the wood). For metal + plastics etc, then yeah, black of course!
    The performance… hmmm… it does sounds pretty damn good for the price, although I wonder if I really 'upgraded' from my Yamaha Mirco system with two top notch bookshelf speakers… (which is an older version of this - http://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/hifi-systems/m…).
    • Jamo should be a lot better than your Micro HiFi and Japanese Speakers. In that many years Japanese is good in electronic but they still cannot produce very good speakers.
      Try KEF if you have a chance you will find even better than Jamo :)
      I am wondering why speakers are that much cheaper from Amazon than from here locally.
      Also why some speakers said "Single", I would assume nobody will buy one speaker?
