Make a pledge to complete your unfinished DIY project by Australia Day and
Masters will give you a $20 Gift Card!
But you’d better hurry – it’s only for the first 2000 people who take the pledge.
Visit masterspledge.com.au
mod - added to title the requirements:
- you need to accept a Facebook app and give it access to your information and account
- you have to submit photos
- you have to be in the first 2000
+1 votebrucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 12:35 ¶(Thats not very Logical.) 'Unfinished' project does not mean you have to even started making the project (eg just thought about doing it), just not completed it. I think Masters would love a 'before' photo of an partly completed project - as that is a before photo - before you started this pledge to complete the project. That would show this pledge promo works.
You have until Australia Day to complete the project & submit photos. So photo now, & when completed. Of course the wise will choose a quick project. Otherwise you will not get in in time for a $20 card.
Many Projects (eg 'installing' a light bulb or timer switch to fulfill security pledge) only take a minute - so can take before & after photos a minute apart.
On the pledge page where you upload photos, it lists "Here’s some DIY knowledge to help with your project" videos including how to install a smoke detector. Photos needed - blank ceiling, ceiling showing smoke detector. (One patch of ceiling looks the same as another.)
Looks like you need to wait until tomorrow to submit photos.

+2 votesssmith3104 on 02/01/2013 - 14:06 ¶No. It is valid as from today (2/1/13) as per their website statement:
"Wow, what a great response we’ve had so far to the Masters pledge. Keep them coming!
Quick update for you on the Masters Gift Cards…
We have been thrilled by how many people have made a pledge to get it made before Australia Day. We will be sending out $20 gift cards as planned to the first 2000 people to make a pledge after 6am today.
We are pleased to advise we will also be providing a $20 gift card to those who submitted a pledge before the scheduled 6am start today.
But remember it’s a limit of one each and T&Cs apply.
The photos are not required to make your pledge, but if you take before and after shots, you could end up on our wall of fame and it feels good to know you got the job done."

mrdavedave on 01/01/2013 - 11:47 ¶it's not letting me submit the before and after pics? anyone else have this problem?

+1 votebrucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 12:02 ¶Yes - necessary to finalise deal
Show us your handiwork. Upload a before AND after pic to finalise your pledge.
Your pledge has a countdown timer to Australia Day.
But The first 2000 qualifying entrants will receive a Masters Gift Card valued at $20.
+5 votesI kinow everyone is saying you do,
but I am not so sure.
After all it says
"we'll give you a *$20 gift card to get you started."
T&C says
"Each entry must:
i. Include a pledge written in 25 words or less about the DIY project you plan to complete
ii. Include entrant’s name, email, phone number and full postal address
iii. Not be offensive, defamatory, unlawful or likely to cause offense to other persons;
iv. Be free of any claims, including copyright claims, by other parties; and
v. Not promote illegal or negligent activity."Nothing about completing the pledge.
Its unfair to have to wait til you finish the project, because only the shortest projects would make the 2000 entrants.
And its illogical to say "$20 to get you started",
if you you only get it when the project is completed.
+1 votessmith3104 on 02/01/2013 - 13:59 ¶Requires a double-click, and then wait 30 seconds. An ordinary single click does not seem to do the trick.
-2 votesthe promotion period doesnt start until tomorrow so i think any entries submitted before then will be invalid as the terms and conditions state you have to enter during the promotional period. also, it does not state in there that you have to upload any pics to be considered eligible, you just have to make the pledge then the gift card will be sent to the address provided within 10 days.
+1 votebrucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 12:06 ¶Um… it states on your pledge you need to upload photos to finalise the pledge. No photos, no pledge.
It won't let you click on "Job done" to submit your completed pledge without 2 photos. And only first 2000 qualifying entrants will receive a Masters Gift Card. No completed pledge, no $20 card.
I chose 'Security' as project. Put a lock on something, take before & after photos, & job finished!

i have asked Masters for clarification. Terms and conditions say to make/take a pledge, not that you need to finalise the pledge. As soon as you make/take the pledge (photos not required) it becomes part of your newsfeed that others see to say that you have taken the pledge so i am thinking it may be enough. will let you know what Masters say when they get back to me. have also asked them to clarify if we need to re-enter tomorrow or whether any entries already done will satisfy them.
+1 votebrucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 12:25 ¶You didn't think I was actually going to buy & install a lock, did you? LOL
I am too lazy for that. Just want the $20 card.(Mind you, I do need a set of shelves for the garage - sneaky Masters advertising is working already!)

from facebook page today:-
Masters Home Improvement: Hi Millzy, you only hit 'Job Done' once you've loaded any photos for before and after. And this is not mandatory. You just need to make a pledge and be in the first 2000 to get a $20 voucher, based on the T&Cs.therefore, as stated previously it is not mandatory to upload pics in order to get the gift card.

20 minutes ago.hi - we just got ozbargained after launching our exciting new January promotion this morning on our wall - tomorrow we will be relaunching in an attempt to deter some of the registrants so keep an eye out!

+1 votebrucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 12:03 ¶Gardening is one of the options, or 'Other'
Could install a light bulb - before shot of empty socket, after shot of light on.
+1 votesimple things like hanging a picture that has been laying on the floor for ages, broken fence that needs a few nails to secure it, the garden gate lock that needs replacing. These are some very basic repairs I think we all have and are easy to take pictures of.
+3 votesbrucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 12:29 ¶'Other': Put warm beer in fridge to cool down. Photo of beer in carton. Submit the pleasure of you enjoying another "Job done".
brucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 13:55 ¶Another of my many unfinished projects I pledge to complete.
brucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 12:20 ¶It is accepting entry now. Just upload photos tomorrow on.
As card goes to first 2000 completed pledges - description of job & before/after photos, I expect it will be Ozbargained within hours. Main restriction seems 1 per person.

+2 votesbrucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 12:23 ¶Did I hear it squeak close - lube it & another "Job Done"!
brucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 12:30 ¶Guess it is too early. Starts tomorrow.
Completing a project before the start of the pledge period sort of defeats Masters (advertising) intention.

Can just imagine Masters crew turning up to be impressed by the luxury deck you just completed, to find you live in a tiny high rise flat, or similar.
+1 votebrucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 13:30 ¶You've uploaded the photos? Can't click "Job done" yet - may need photos.
brucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 13:35 ¶You have been busy! Others posted that photos could not be uploaded, but probably meant could not click "Job done" yet.
Probably need to wait until promo starts tomorrow before you can complete pledge.

+1 votebrucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 13:36 ¶Just did a search for PC 3000 & shows 10 stores, with nearest at Northland.
Can't see these warehouse stores ever being in the CBD.
You've got until 30 November 2013 to use the gift card. Maybe by then you can travel 12km to the store.
Number 10 nearest store to PC 4000 is 761km away!
brucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 14:08 ¶LOL I have to get there first, buy the gear for $20 to get home.
Maybe a cheap solar panel attached to a car fan, mounted on a Masters shopping trolley…
brucefromaustralia on 01/01/2013 - 14:05 ¶Number 10 nearest store to PC 3000 is Mornington only 44 km away.
I wouldn't be complaining.
+3 votesbefore & after lawn mowing photos=another $20 off that already cheap electric lawnmower from Masters http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/88857 which makes it $40, can't go wrong!

+1 voteIt would come out of their marketing budget - for a company of this size it's a drop in the ocean. As f4te mentioned, once you take into account their profit margins it probably works out to be a real cost of around half that figure. They would then make this outlay back several times over, as you'll probably end up going into the store and spending at least 100 bucks.
+3 votesPrior to this promotion I was able to leave a job unfinished for days, months, even years…
When I found out about it I thought, "there is a $20 Gift Card with my name on it."
I even took photos…
Now I'm left with a finished job, two photos and an inability to click "Job Done"
Can I pursue a claim for Workcover, nervous shock or something? lol

+2 votesbrucefromaustralia on 03/01/2013 - 08:54 ¶I, Masters, pledge to complete my unfinished DIY project, my website, by Australia Day.

I submitted my photo on Tuesday and finally heard back.
Congratulations!
Your pledge on Masters Home Improvement’s Facebook to get your DIY or home improvement job done by Australia Day was successful.
As a result, early next week, you’ll receive a $20 Masters Gift Card that can be used in-store or online at masters.com.au.
Of course, if you need a hand to complete your project by Australia Day, we’re with you all the way – check out our “How To” tips for everything from painting to building a deck.
Don’t forget to come back to masterspledge.com.au and post your ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos of your project – we’d love to see them and they could be featured in the Masters Hall of Fame.
Well done on making your pledge and good luck!
+1 votebrucefromaustralia on 04/01/2013 - 14:11 ¶Just got that email, but I only selected pledge type, forgot to fill out my pledge in 25 words or less & did not upload photos. Minimal effort pays off again.
Was a mass mail out "to undisclosed recipients".
So its just pledge & get. No photos necessary.
