+5 votesvanleeuwen on 23/01/2013 - 12:27 ¶they would probably match it, they still make 50% profit :)

while the margin in monster (and cables in general) is massive, they dont buy monster cables for $10 and sell them for $249
the floor 'cost' is set to about about 100% margin with some hidden rebates etc behind that (yes, still a massive markup, but its probably in-line with most cloth stores)
+4 voteswicket1120 on 23/01/2013 - 21:12 ¶Maybe best to refrain from posting COTD "bargains" from now on. I've learned that the hard way too;)
+2 votesCable quality is not terribly imporatnt for HDMI cables, especially ones under 10m. Because the signal is digital, as long as there is a connection the information is transfered. For a really long cable, or one in a wall maybe go for a higher end cable, but for anything like this, do your self a favor and buy the cheapest you can. I think even target or big 2 or something should be able to do an HDMI cable for less than this.
If you are a brand whore this is a decent deal, you just don't need it.
+2 votes$15 is overpriced, $21 (inc postage) is way overpriced.
$249 is a Harvey Norman of a price.
Go of fleabay or walk in to any half reputable computer shop (msy, cnet tech…) and pick one up for less than $10, if you don't mind the wait then buy from china.
If you like throwing money away and waiting longer than you would to have it shipped from china then buy from catchoftheday.
+1 votedealspider on 23/01/2013 - 12:38 ¶As the good-old saying "Hardly Normal"
I am sure that those so-called "Hip" guys would buy this Monster Cable for that price if it had the Beats logo on it :)

I don't understand the negging of this deal.
Just because it's an overpriced HDMI cable doesn't mean it's a good deal price wise. We don't neg Apple deals do we? $1k for a MBA, you serious Apple?
HDMI is HDMI, as far as I'm aware a $2 cable is just as good as a $20. Digital stream and all.

regardless of the 'quality' and 'price' argument (yes, monster is massively overpriced, you're paying for their marketing and ferraris)
I would hope that cotd has these from a genuine supplier because theres plenty of fake monster cables out there (that likely work as well as the originals)

Cheaper on know reliable ebay seller:
2M HDMI Cable v1.4 - $3.88
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251180831423
I've had issues with cheap & free with another product HDMI cables in the past!
And yes, usually it is in the plug/contact area. I became a little tired of 'wiggling' one of my leads so onto the street it went!
The other BIG issue is for anyone that has WDTV media players (like me)! Quite a few cheap cables will not work with them!
+4 votesI don't know anything about the cables you have bought in the past and I don't doubt that there are some really crappy ones floating arround. I speak only about the science of the cables (which is how monster markets) you don't need gold contacts or lots of shielding on digital cables.
That said, fancy cables like this often come with good industrial design resulting in better quality and durability.
All the $5 HDMI cables I have bought over the years still work fine. That said, I usually hook them up and don't touch them for a year or two. In the end it is a personal choice. I would go for cheaper and if it doesn't work from day one send it back. Most ebay sellers and places like dx.com will give you either a full refund or a replacement unit if the product is DOA.
+1 votehollykryten on 23/01/2013 - 12:42 ¶It says $17.80 when i load up the web page. Has it gone up in price by a few dollars.
+4 votesEPICSALETIME on 23/01/2013 - 12:44 ¶The only time I would recommend a monster cable would be for their lifetime warranty. The fact COTD mentions a 12 month warranty makes me wary about the origins and geniune-ness of this cable..
hollykryten on 23/01/2013 - 12:51 ¶Your right the cart says $14.99 but down lower on the page it says this. Conflicting pricing info on the page
Monster 2m HDMI Cable w/ Bonus Adapter
Today just $17.80 for a top brand accessory! My guess is they were originally going to charge $17.80 but later changed it to $14.99 and forgot to update that details on the page.
+2 votesalwayseric on 23/01/2013 - 12:56 ¶some people seriously need to be a little smarter. the monster cable is an old joke. i got my hdmi cables for $2/$3. work great!
+1 votevanleeuwen on 23/01/2013 - 12:57 ¶This is not the $249 cable. Official page: http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=7060&id=9...
Even monster call it a "NO FRILLS" cable. "Ships in a Poly-Bag" they didn't even spend on the nice box !
hollykryten on 23/01/2013 - 13:00 ¶Yeah must be their lowest quality cable. Says it's a promo cable does that mean they were given away on promotions.
Definitely not worth any where near that $249 that was originally quoted in the topic.
+1 voteJust to make it clear while I agree about all the BS over Monster cables this one is not one of the ones that they retail at $XXX … you can find what looks to be the same Monster cable in the USA for $7-10 quite easily.
So yes if this were the $250 HDMI for $15 it would be a bargain, just for the fact you could resell it if nothing else (Broden!)… but its just one of their cheapo HDMI cables at a not particularly cheap price.
maverickjohn on 23/01/2013 - 13:04 ¶While it seems like a good deal, please dont be fooled or try to fool other users in thinking its worth $21. At the end of the day posting a full priced cable of ebay as some here have shown is still a better deal than the one you have shown us here.
I won't neg since its a 'discount', But i wont plus as its still a horrible deal.
I'd prefer these http://www.overclockers.com.au/image.php?pic=images/newspics...
Soon to be stocked at HN i will be placing pre order

A more expensive cable general looks nicer, like this Monster one. Plus, a cheap rubbish cable from ebay may do the same job as a pricier cable, but also could break over time due to cheap components and build (or might not even work straight out of the box).
Some people would pay a premium for a nicer looking cable. I would. But not $20. Maybe ~$7 instead of ~$3.
Don't sweat it OP, if you post a deal for an HDMI cable that's over 2 bucks, you'll get negged at OzBargain.

A more expensive cable general looks nicer, like this Monster one.how does a cable you cant see thats hidden behind the tv matter how it LOOKS? seriously? what a stupid uninformed comment.
Plus, a cheap rubbish cable from ebay may do the same job as a pricier cable,
exactly everyones point….
but also could break over time
a cheap cable could also turn into a billion dollars while its hidden behind your tv… both things are about as likely…. its just another stupid uninformed comment…..
Some people would pay a premium for a nicer looking cable.
and some people are morons in this world, whats your point?
I would.
oh, erm.. i see… thats awkward.. i didnt mean you by my previous comment..
Don't sweat it OP, if you post a deal for an HDMI cable that's over 2 bucks, you'll get negged at OzBargain.
if you post a deal on OzB that isnt actually a bargain you will get negged, no matter what product it is… if you dont like it why dont you try and start your own site OzNotActuallyBargains and see how you go?
+1 voteHarsh, because you're generalising and assuming that EVERYONE hides their cabling! Not always the case! If they're on a swing arm, mounted to brick, etc. I know there are products to group and hide them, but like I said, Not EVERYONE does this!
And how many people have alloy wheels in there boot, tidied up under their bonnet, buy more expensive brands of socks or jocks? Should I go on?And, as for the quality, technically speaking, the cable may transfer a signal in the same way, but there is definitely a line between cheap and rubbish! When it comes to build construction of the cable, I had 1 that was supplied free with another product that had to be wiggled occasionally to get the signal to transfer. (And no, nothing wrong with the plug in the box as I've never had an issue since replacing it.) And I've had another cheap one from BigW where the actual plastic housing of the male plug obviously wasn't moulded properly and slid down along the cable!
So his points are plausible, and for him, maybe justifiable!
You also broke his comment "Plus, a cheap rubbish cable from ebay may do the same job as a pricier cable, but also could break over time due to cheap components and build (or might not even work straight out of the box)." into 2 parts making it seem like 2 individual conflicting points!

Apologies for the poor quality, I wanted to make it look like a product that Dre would endorse so I used Microsoft Paint.
