Sony PlayStation Vita Wi-Fi $199 at EB Games

670

Hey guys,
EB has just announced in stores today that the Vita is currently available for $199 for a strictly limited time.

They are not advertising this deal, so make sure you ask counter if you are interested.

I don't know if this is available online as I'm doing this on my phone.

Awesome thanks, I'll update the URL when I get home.

  • +3

The preowned one is down to $168 on the website as well. Pretty tempting

    • +2

$168 in-store too, if anyone wants to go in and look at it first.

      • +1

Just went to the EB in Brisbane city and they have the preowned ones for $168. I got myself one. Now to find a cheap memory card.

  • +5

Good price. Must resist buying though :(

  • +1

waiting on a price drop on the memory cards. damn you sony..!!!

  • +2

Good console let down by the poor selection of games.
I got lots of hours of gameplay on Fifa 13 and Mortal Kombat.

It's a steal at that price.

    • +2

wish they would come to 3ds :(

    • +9

I'm happy with the selection so far: Persona 4, Uncharted, Little big planet, Little king's story, Wipeout, Rayman, Gravity Rush, Katamari, Virtue's last reward, Mortal kombat

      • Me too. Especially with PS+.

      • We have the exact same taste in games. Except gravity rush, I dont even know what that is.

It's a great system, people need to stop complaining that "it has no games". That was true at release, but it's had plenty of good ones for a long time now.

        • +2

Get PS Plus and you'll have Gravity Rush, Lumines, Uncharted GA & Wipeout for free. Also later in the month we get Metal Gear Solid HD Collection free.

        • +2

I own Uncharted and Wipeout already. I'm in no rush to part with money for a subscription to play the other games - for the few that I want it just seems better value to buy them (noting I never buy when they are full price).

PS: Uncharted is $10 if in stock at your sony store.

        • +3

Just to be clear - they're not "free", they require you to pay $79 a year for as many years as you want to keep playing them. A game cannot be free if it requires you to pay to have access to it lol.

PS+ isn't a good deal for the Vita IMO because of the memory card prices. Unless you want to only have 1-2 games stored at any time, and constantly delete/download again, you're going to need to buy multiple memory cards, minimum 32gb each - and they're the most obnoxiously overpriced things since, well, the Vita launch price.

        • +4

          "and constantly delete/download again"

          You can transfer games to/from a PC/PS3.

And your right its not "FREE" but IMO it pays for itself in 1 month especially if you have a PS3.

          Right now you can download
          -Mass Effect 3
          -Dead or Alive 5
          -Joe Danger 2
-God of War HD (Supports Remote Play)
          -F1 Stars Racing
          -Quantum Conundrum
          -Guardians of Middle Earth
          -Wipeout 2048 (VITA)
          -Little Big Planet 2
          -Motorstorm Apocalypse
          -InFamous 2
          -Lumines (VITA)
          -Uncharted: Golden Abyss (VITA)
          -Gravity Rush (VITA)

          • all the crazy discounts.
        • +2

Congratulations on clearing that up mrfunsocks lol

When I said "Get PS Plus" it was implied that you would pay for it. Also you say that you can fit 1 or 2 games on a card and then point out the price of a 32gb card which you can fit between 10-50 games on size dependent of course.

        • +1

Wow. It's official: I'm never buying any more games for my vita since every single one of the games you listed including MGS HD I bought! Although I still do prefer physical copies in the end of the day… I have had PS+ for some time but for the Vita it's yet to pay off since I'm only getting digital versions of what I already have.

        • +1

I trade my copies in/fleaBay if/once they end up on PS Plus. Win/Win.

        • Yeah. Sony gives a heads up 1 months before they change the games so you have time to flick of your physical copies for some sweet coin. I had to flick Wipeout and Uncharted

        • +1

It's 69.99 a year, not 79. Also if you're clever like me, you'll use a US account and get PSN plus for 49.99 for 15 months. Games on US store are 20% cheaper as well (or AU is dearer by that much).

      • +4

        I agree.
        Im loving my VITA
Persona 4, Unit 13 and All Stars are my VITA games of choice right now. Need for Speed on the way also.
Grab PS+ and you have Uncharted, Wipeout, Lumines and Gravity Rush which are all great games!!
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection coming out for PS+ in a few weeks
        Winning!!
Also very excited about Soul Sacrifice!
I feel the Vita is very under rated. I know the memory cards are expensive but you will get over it. You only need one really. Just transfer content to and from your PS3 or PC. 16GB can hold a fair amount.

        • +1

          Oh snap

        • +1

HAHA. Looks like you win :-)

        • +1

You're not wrong about Soul Sacrifice, I'm waiting on my Soul Sacrifice Premium Edition Vita to arrive from Japan, c'mon Fedex!

        • I was thinking about import but I am 20+hrs into Persona 4 and have a few more games to keep me busy until May so I'm gonna wait for this one.

        • I'm not keeping the game, same as you I have enough to keep me busy until May, I just wanted the special edition Vita

add me to your friends list anyhooo, PSN: beakeroo

        • That Vita looks pretty sic!

Ill add you when I get home

          PSN: brittanz

        • Looking at a eBay listing it has this:

          Important :
          1 - Region-lock : runs Japanese 3DS software only
2 - Access Japanese online services only

          Is that right or lies?

        • That's an idiot who has used a 3DS listing details.
The vita is totally region free.

        • Haha, is that right!? Yeah it nly runs 3DS games.

        • Haha, should of known, thought something was up with it.

          Cool beans.

  • +2

EB are probably just preempting a western price drop after Japan recently dropped the RRP. Great value IMO!

  • So is Vita supposed to play a bigger role in the new PS4 world of gaming?

I note currently in ps3 land it promised so much integration with ps3 but provided so little that was my big disapointment and why i sold mine quickly.

    • +1

They claim all PS4 games will be remote play. I dont think Sony would fumble that promise twice…..hoping!!

      • +1

They're claiming nothing at this stage. The said that "eventually" they "hope" that all PS4 games will be compatible with Remote Play.

Sony need to put their foot down with developers (like Microsoft do with many of their dashboard features like music soundtracks etc) and insist that they incorporate these basic features into their games.

        • I agree but at the same time you need to be careful not to create to many rules that may potentially put off some developers in turn limiting the potential of the console.

Lets hope that remote play is a function of the PS4 and not the games.

  • Interesting.. what kind of warranty does the second hand one have?

Or would one be better of getting a new unit?

    • 3 month warranty on preowned, 12 months on new.

  • +1

If only NBA2k13/12 is on Vita I will buy it in a heartbeat

  • Is this the one where you can get the old final fantasy games on?

    • Yup.

      • +1

Think I may have to get one.

  • +1

Vita lack games, but the good games are great

  • +1

lbp on psvita is the best in the series, imo. also, ps plus is so worth the purchase.

    add me: freeslave_44

    • I loves me some LBP, but with it being a 2nd-party Sony title, I'm banking on it being a free PS Plus freebie game in the near future, along with PS All Stars.

  • Another question, does this come with a memory card or must I buy one elsewhere?

    • No memory included

    • +1

You have to buy a memory card separately. However you can get a preowned 4GB memory card for $9 from EB to get you started.

      • Where are they for $9 ? On the website ?

        • Good question. I was told that they don't sell second hand memory cards.

        • Call your local store. They are priced $9 in store and there are many available.

        • Any idea how much second hand 16gb and 32gb cards are?

        • Off the top of my head, 16GB is $38 but you'll have to double check that. No idea on 32GB.

  • +1

I think JBHIFI deal is better if you want extra game and the starter pack all for 249
    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/game/ps-vita/playstation-vita…

    • +3

Though if you don't care about the starter pack, you can get the Vita from EB for $200 and then buy the PS3 copy of Playstation All Stars for $48 at EB/JB and it comes with a digital download of the PSVITA version too.

      • If its a Hive starter pack then you're better off not having it anyway. Its all trash.

  • -5

Just jail break the thing, unlimited games like the psp original

    • Piracy killed off interest from western third party devs in the PSP. We'll end up with free games that suck.

      • -1

Really? Then why was the Nintendo DS so popular?

        • the console was popular but game publishers didn't benefit much

jail breaking ios devices and getting free apps for android has resulted in the freemium model for mobile games. You don't want the same thing happening to console games

        • Because Nintendo owners buy DS for Nintendo games. They aren't reliant on western devs champ.

    • HAHA. Let me know when you manage to do that :-)

The last thing we need is for piracy on the PSVITA. Not cool

  • +1

    Cheap 32gb memory $58.50 delivered

      • I have a laptop for that…

Anyways it's a good price for those interested. :)

  • oh wow… did not know the PS Vita came in bith WiFi and 3G models.. I mean sure I figured it would have WiFi but I had no idea it could do 3G!

  • +1

I think I'm going to have to get one

  • +4

Just picked this up a few hours ago, the person in store tried to tell me they were $349, I said erm…no check again please, she did and BAM $199 phew
Also for anyone who is interested I got the prices for their 2nd hand/Pre-owned Vita Memory Cards:
    1574525 PO-PSV MEM 4GB $9.00
    1574532 PO-PSV MEM 8GB $19.00
    1574540 PO-PSV MEM 16GB $38.00
    1574557 PO-PSV MEM 32GB $99.00

    • Are they mad? $99!

    • Thanks for the update. What did you end up buying. What's your impressions so far?

      • These consoles are great. I thoroughly recommend getting one if you like PlayStation style games. They are so very nearly a PS3 in your pocket, in some ways they surpass the PS3 (cross game chat, partying up outside of games, social integration, splash screen info/updates etc)

I suggest anyone who gets one and wants to find others to play online with, keep up to date with latest news, bargains etc join in on the Whirlpool Vita thread http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2055362&r…

      • I didn't end up getting a memory card, so function is VERY limited with no memory card, so I've just been playing the tutorial games that teach you about the different functions.
I'm enjoying it, it's nice and smooth flowing between swipes of the screen with the different apps, however EVERYTHING is an app sort of function on it, go to settings? click start to open it, that is my ONLY little pickle I have with the console, which isn't that huge of one either, which is good, because I don't like pickles! :)
Overall I am enjoying it, even though I can't really do anything with mine just yet haha :P

    • Which store had pre-owned cards? I've checked 3 of them (victoria) and none of them had any. :/

      • Coffs Harbour, Coffs Harbour Palms Centre & Toormina (All Mid-North Coast NSW)

        • Oh thanks. Are you able to buy and post a pre-owned 16gb card to me in Melbourne? $38 for a 16gb card is good value, considering the cheapest available is $50 shipped in 2 weeks from HK.

  • Bought one today, cheers OP. EB salesman kept on badgering me that I won't be able to play anything without a memory card…they were selling 8gb one for $48. I told him to shove it up where the sun don't shine. They didn't have any pre-owned cards though :(

    • How is it so far?

      • Looks and feels amazing. D/l uncharted and wipeout from ps plus right now.
