Dick Smith All Blu-Rays $5 Individual / $20 Box Sets

2480

Went into Dick Smith to pick up this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/97320 and found they have all blu-rays $5 individual movies and $20 blu-ray box sets.

Obviously I spent more than I intended.
Grind house box set, predator collection, ultimate gangster collection were some of the box sets as well as quite a few individual movies.

I could easily have spent $150 but stopped myself at $75.

Edit:
Credit where credit is due, g12345567 originally posted this in a comment of the Band of Brothers/The Pacific deal, I didn't see that comment before posting this.

Sorry, I was at Springvale (VIC) and posting the deal from my phone.
      Looks like nation-wide:

      • +1

Thanks. Just went to Springvale and got what you'd left behind! Still quite a few good ones available (all the Harry Potters are there, the two Daniel Craig Bond films that are on blu ray, madagascar 1 and 2 and a few kids films). Good find, thanks

        • You're welcome.
I got the last Band of Brothers/The Pacific box set they had. Apparently several people called up wanting it after I clicked to collect. They even checked my name to make sure I wasn't trying to stooge them.

Do you want my image link, from warringah mall

    http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/14295/15560/img_2013032…

    • +1

I guess that stuffed that box set up!
I saw a couple of the individual F&F movies at $5 each, they didn't have that box set at Springvale.

    • no stock near me… :(

      • +2

Go in to the store if you can. The website was telling me only 2 of mine were in stock. I went to the store and found 10 of the 12 I'd selected were on the shelf.

  • So so so keen for the Tarantino set for $20.

    • one left in Darwin at Casuarina. i had it in my hand but it got culled. couldnt have them all unfortunately

  • Thanks OP, anyone know how long they hold your order for? since the store is quite far away don't think I'll have time until weekend..

    • same here.

    • +1

I think 24 hours but ask if u can pay over the phone, worth a try

    • +1

24 hours by the time they received the order.

But beware happened before by the time the store received the order they may not immediately put it aside, in that case it may got sold.

      • Hope not. Place order for BOB/pacific box at 12pm. My local is now showing sold out. Still no reservation confirmation.

        • +3

I saw your the other post, I bought the last box there.

          Sorry @.@"

        • +3

Managed toi get reserved cobnfirmation . Piced up no problem

        • +1

          Good on you.

  • +1

Forget about your hopes on some of these box sets : THEY'RE GONE !!

I was after the GRINDHOUSE set at Sydney - yep, we've been cleaning it out - there's a lot left, but titles that you probably wouldn't really touch for $5.

    • They had about four copies of the Grindhouse at Fountain Gate. It's like a flat pack thing. Damn, I would have got you one.

  • Just did click and collect for Kung Fu Panda 2. A few more that I wanted were marked as "low stock" or "out of stock", that was the only one I could reserve.

Hope they honour it. If I'm lucky they'll have a few of the low stock ones too…

  • +1

Pretty much all the blurays I was after were sold out…… :(

  • +1

My order was ready within an hour but he could not find 3 of them, so I ended up finding them myself. The guys at my local store are getting overwhelmed, same for the others I suspect

  • -7

this is worth the neg just because most stock is gone

    • +7

Living up to the username I see :)

      • +5

        and loving it

  • Brisbane city is pretty r@ped.

    Around 30 left before midday.

  • +5

I just rang the store I click and collected for, and they said they aren't processing any click and collect orders it is simply first come first serve basis.

I was lucky enough to convince the guy to put one aside for me and I'm on my way to pick it up now…

So for those of you who are hoping for a click and collect it might pay to ring up and check.

  • Very good deal, but does anyone know of jbhifi will price match these? Saves the trouble traveling to 10 diff locations!!!

    • Extremely doubtful..

    • it would cost more in gas to travel to all the stores than paying retail

    • +3

Never mind, it's a terrible movie anyway :P

It was $5 an hour ago.

      • +2

james cameron pre 1992 awesome. james cameron post 1992 tragic

        • +5

not even True Lies? I liked that one.

        • My first Hollywood movie. It completely blew me away.

        • +1

You know it was ripped off and a remake of a French film?
"The Jackpot" a.k.a. "La Totale!" is a 1991 French comedy film directed by Claude Zidi. The original film was the basis for director James Cameron's 1994 action comedy True Lies.

  • +12

DSE Staff bought all the stock.

    • +10

Don't take this personally, but I hope you take an arrow to the knee

      • +5

Aw but ive just healed from a serious injury!

  • +4

Just be aware that out of the 12 blurays I selected, in the click and collect option about 10 were unavailable. Ended up walking to the store and found about 10 out of thwe 12 were on the shelf. So it probably pays to go in to the store.

    Perth store has heaps left.

    • Same here, looked online at my local (Ingle Farm, SA) said that only 2 of the 10 I looked at were there, but went in there and walked out with 8, including some that aren't on the website.

    • Perth store still has heaps of stock. They still have $19.95 stickers everywhere so perhaps nobody has twigged.

  • Huh, Avatar is still $20 instead of $5.

    • +2

True. I bought avatar and the lady said it was still $20 but she marked it down to $5 for me

  • Got the Rocky Balboa boxset, last one in stock very stoked. Also picked up all the Lord of the rings movies +others. Worth checking out the Marion store in SA be quick though.

  • Jbhifi doesn't price match??? But I have price matched an ipad a few months ago!!

    • They might price match it if DSE have it in stock, otherwise they are not obligated to.

      • +2

Maybe JB can have a sale to really kill them off , All Blu Rays $2 and DVDs 50c

  • +4

Picked up Star Wars I II III for $20. Thanks OP

    • +2

The force is strong with this one.

  • Repost.

Lots of stock at Glenelg SA, Westlakes still have a bit. Adelaide did not have much.

Adelaide did have 1 band of brothers box set when i rang, they told me they could not hold it so i rushed into the city to get it. I looked where the box sets were but no luck, When i was paying for the blurays at the counter the manager came out with the band of brothers box. I questioned him about it and he said "It wasn't on hold I just had it out the back". what a fucken stooge.

Make sure they unlock them for you!

The guy at glenelg (Thank you) asked me if the city store had unlocked them for me so i checked and they had not!
I had to ask the westlakes store to unlock them.

  • Only about 20 different b-grade titles left at Top Ryde, NSW. I picked up 7 ok ones. Good post OP!

    • what are some titles warwick?

      • They had a couple left of -

        Master & Commander
        a few others, but can't remember… old age. :)

        lots of harry potter
box set of Predators & Fast & Furious

I spoke with the sales guy - he said the sale went up this morning, and he couldn't believe how many have sold in the time so far. The shelf will be clear tonight for sure, and put into a small bin.

        • haha that's more than i could remember. thanks mate - appreciate it, heading there later this arvo just curious on whats left

        • +1

The ones I bought were -

          AVP 1 - more left
          AVP 2 - more left
          Minority Report - none left
          District 9 - none left
          X-Men - none left
          GI-Joe - none left

I remember they actually had a number of the X-Men titles - Wolverine was amongst them.

edit: they had quite a few std Lord of the Rings series also!

        • And all the Matrix blu-rays as well. I thought I saw a Transporter one also…

        • Thanks for the tip!

          inglorious basterds
          jurassic park trilogy
          kiss kiss bang bang
          tropic thunder
          terminator 2

          all for $40.

  • +3

Click and collect has been removed for all the blu rays and dvds

  • +3

    They've disabled Click & Collect now :/

  • +2

I went to Innaloo, WA. They had heaps in stock! I got xmen, die hard, band of brothers, Tarantino, predator, fast and furious set, AVP, AVP2, 21, MJ this is it, hangover 2 and Conan 3d. I would have for godfather and gangster collection if I didn't already have them.

    • Was it busy? I ordered from them but still haven't got a text. Definitely won't have time to drop down there today.

      • About 5 people stocking up each time I was there. Don't rely on click to collect. I ordered online too and haven't heard anything, meanwhile people are there snapping up the movies I ordered (myself included). There are no staff collating orders.

      • i ordered mine click on collect, 4 hours + , no sms confirmation……..
Guess not much hope to get one……..

    • +1

I just went back for Jurasic Park and Rocky. Still plenty there.

  • A fair bit of stock left at Malvern, VIC about an hour ago, including one Grindhouse set.

    • not much left now……

every title that I wanted are all gone!

  • +1

I just got a text saying that my order is ready to pick up.

Is there is strict limit on pick up time? Worried i won't be able to get in until the weekend.

    • +2

      24 hours normally

  • +1

    oops dup comment

    • Did you see my photo? May be only your local store have zero stock.

      http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/14295/15560/img_2013032…

      • +1

Wow, that's literally about 100 times what 7 hills had an hour later at 2pm.

Still, by now most of those must be gone at these prices, time for this deal to show some indication to people that their chances aren't great. If they still want to go, great, but they should at least be warned to call first.

        • +2

Yeah only have a good chance if you have a big store near you.

        • +1

Yeah, Seven Hills was definitely not one of the really big stores, less stock to begin with :(

      • +1

Omg. Thats what my dreams are made of.

    • +1

I understand your point but I purchased 'Band of brothers/The Pacific', 'Inglorious Bastards', 'Walking Tall', 'Star Trek', 'Gi Joe', 'Rise of the planet of the apes' - So it was a bargain for me.

      • -4

Cool. You can upvote the deal.

The problem is though, that downvotes are hated on this site. Even an extremely useful one like mine on this deal, which would have saved a lot of people a lot of wasted time and disappointment, was suppressed and revoked by people downvoting my comment.

This is not a deal deserving hundreds of upvotes and zero negs (which it has, as I type this). There are serious concerns. Most of the people who see it from the time I commented will be terribly disappointed. A few more hours and the comments will be full of annoyed people getting home from shopping where they found zero stock. Their time will have been needlessly wasted by people who try to supress negs by negging the commentor.

It's the biggest problem facing OzBargain, I think. Mods, you need to stop encouraging witchhunts against downvotes and think of a way to legitimately warn people about problematic deals.

        • +2

Even an extremely useful one like mine on this deal

lolololololololol for real? All your first comment did was be counter productive

  • Hmmm, there's no obligation with Click & Collect, is there?

With all the talk of titles not being there, i'm tossing up whether it's worth rescheduling other stuff to go in tonight.

    • +1

Apparently not. Makes you wonder what that feature is even there for, doesn't it…

    • 24 hours once you get the email/sms or you lose the reservation

  • +1

Yup, they aren't honoring their "click and collect". While its a 'good deal' its good for anyone who had time to get in to buy a disc, or those who are just lucky

  • they got lots of single titles in Melton. Staff was just putting price tags on about half an hour ago. still have jurassic 5 and Mission imposible box sets

  • Colonnades had "mediocre" titles. But the only box sets left were Die Hard Quadrilogy, shrek: the complete story, mission impossible 1,2,3 and Jurassic park

  • +6

IN BIG CAPS SO PEOPLE DO SEE IT.

CLICK AND COLLECT DOES NOT WORK DO NOT RELY ON IT, IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DISABLED FOR THIS SALE.

System's across all Dick Smiths are backlogged and no SMS's being sent.

Innaloo has heaps of individual movies left, but no BOB. Sons of Anarchy seasons 1 and 2 are only $5

  • +2

Nunawading store has a few titles. Excellent service too, sent me the promised SMS and had my click/collect ready. It wasn't at all busy either.

    • +1

Just like camberwell, there was a big stack of click and collect orders behind the desk ready to sell, even found a few that weren't available to click and collect

  • Brandon Park is pretty much cleared out. Was 1 grindhouse and 1 xmen in terms of boxsets

  • Went to Prahran Store, still have some title left.

  • Any T.V. Shows or T.V. Box sets? don't really care if there are old but would prefer new.
I highly doubt it but worth a shoot

  • Fast & Furious Collection of Blu-Ray was $5
