+1 voteYep, I think you just pay taxes. From the 6th post (currently last post) at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/9962, the poster said that when this sale was last on, he bought Mel - KL return for $320.
rainbow612 on 09/02/2009 - 11:06 ¶does anyone know if the travel period is fixed to certain months?

Oct to Jan. In terms of free seat availability, they usually have a lot in the first few days, but get snapped up quickly for popular dates.
The free seats sale is usually called "The Million Free Seats Sale". But it seems this year it doesn't mention a million free seats, so availability might be limited compared to previous sales.

seems like there will be tabular view of availability.
Oh and yes London is in the free seats sale - I doubt they will have .my <> .au concurrent with .my <> .uk tho
For those booking onward flights, can I suggest you make a buffer between connecting flights as if there is a delay on your first flight there is no recourse to change your booking for second flight without penalty.

Actually here is the email in HTML:

+1 voteLet me post the actual online version of the newsletter: http://www.airasia.com/nl/nl090210-au.htm
There is a link to show more destinations.
Let me summarise:
So the booking period starts TONIGHT at 3AM Melb/Syd time until 15 Feb 2009. Travel between 12 Oct 2009 to 31 Jan 2010.
OK let's calculate some return flights that is available. (Remember many of these return flights involve two separate bookings and luggage + meals are extra)
Return flights including tax:
Melbourne - Kuala Lumpur = $82 + $82 = $164
Melbourne - Bangkok (via KL) = $82 + $82 + $21 + $21 = $206
Melbourne - Bali (via KL) = $82 + $82 + $21 + $21 = $206
Melbourne - Hanoi (via KL) = $82 + $82 + $22 + $22 = $208Melbourne - London (via KL) = $82 + $82 + $246 + $246 = $656
Believe this is the cheapest ever kangaroo route fare. I know this is not inclusive of luggage and meals, but meals on AirAsia X is cheap ($5 per sector), and luggage addons are not that bad either.
Hooray for competition. And be ready to book.
Sunstar320 on 09/02/2009 - 19:06 ¶BINGO!
It will be a whole lot more expensive booking from STN-KUL-MEL..just wait and see the taxes on the way back!
The London fare is not "free seats" by the way, its just a $246 special. They make it look like "free seats" though, but its not.
Might be cheap, but imagine sitting in a Jetstar seat (A320 ones) for 18 hours, and very little seat recline, people next to you basically sitting in your personal space…etc..wonder if they turn the lights out
What I would do is book $164~ or so return to KL, then grab a Singapore Airlines flight, or Qantas, or whatever to the final destination. Just a bit of space thats all…

Do you have evidence to back you up on this? If you try mock bookingfor a return flight of MEL-KUL-MEL, you will see that the tax for MEL-KUL is $82 while the return KUL-MEL is actually $38. This brings the fare for MEL-KUL-MEL to a staggering $120!!. Please get the facts right.

for breakdown of fees and taxes.
So there must be some additional admin fees to get the amount up.
agentsmithy on 09/02/2009 - 20:44 ¶Are these guys big?
Or could they be an airline about to go bust, maybe trying to get some quick cash?EDIT: hmm they do look quite reputable. Although ive read reviews that their customer service is so bad, they dont call you or notify you when your flights are cancelled. And their customer service line takes ages to get through….
But hmm. probably can trust them huh?
Yeah they probably are the biggest budget airlines in Asia. I find them great for the price you pay. Although like any other budget airlines they are prone to cancellations or timing changes. Always allow an overnight stay or few hours if you want to do a transit flight.

Air Asia is one of the biggest Budget Airlines in Asia. They used to sponsor the AT&T Williams F1 team for the past 2 years.
Here a pic of 1 of their planes with the teams livery.
http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/aircraft-pictures/airasial...The prices look very good. Hopefully i can get a MEL - KL return & the website does not crash with the demand.

Don't forget the USD$40 deal with Hotel club running until February 15th. You can pretty much get free accommodation if you chose wisely. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/9941
Pair this up with these cheap tickets and you have the ultimate budget/free holiday.

Played around with the URL and found this URL. They don't seem to have uploaded it yet on their Sales page
http://www.airasia.com/freeseat/fsavail_en.php?hub=KUL&count...

haha
but in all honesty i don't agree- air asia's website hasn't crashed yet — although it may be a tad slow — it seems most people on here, including me :) have been able to get thru and get some great flight deals …
(unlike jetstar who can't keep their website up long enough for anyone to book a domestic flight)

Just booked flights for 3 ppl GC to KL return for around $350 including tax. A flight to Penang from KL is only around $15 one-way. Absolutely incredible considering a bus ride costed me around $25 one-way and took like 5 hours, whereas the plane ride takes less than an hour I believe. This will indeed be a very cheap trip considering you can get decent hotel rooms in KL for less than $10 a night. It's made my day!

I'm using the hotelclub deal and I'm not paying a single cent for hotels for this trip. Although its mainly just low end 3* hotels and nothing fancy.
$10 rooms are also available from Tune Hotels, which is Airasia's no frills budget accommodation in Downtown KL. Its just bed and shower nothing else.
agentsmithy on 10/02/2009 - 08:02 ¶as am i… hmmm.. to go or not to go…
How do you know if its a discounted price. $250ish for single from Melb to ML… that sound right?
EDIT: Ah of course, it says price $0. If its the good deal. Then you just pay for taxes.

How does the free seats deals work?
You dont pay for the seats, what do you need to pay? Taxes? Anything else?
