ALDI is a leader in the international grocery retailing industry. With a network of more than 5,000 stores ALDI serves Europe, USA and Australia. The first ALDI store opened in 1948 in the German town of Essen. The company grew strongly and during the 1960.s the self-service concept was developed and adapted to fit the company philosophy. Today the company operates as two separate groups: ALDI North and ALDI South. ALDI North comprises the northern region of Germany, Belgium, Denmark, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. ALDI South comprises southern Germany, Austria, UK, Ireland, USA and Australia.
