Referral Links on OzBargain
IMPORTANT: Referral links on OzBargain are currently in pre-beta testing. Please use this forum discussion topic for feedback.
You may see some outbound links and deal images marked as “Referral” on OzBargain. For example:
These links might benefit some community members who have registered themselves as referrals to some of the stores featured on OzBargain. Making purchases through these referral links should not cost you extra. In some cases, discounts or financial incentives apply to both the referrer and referred.
OzBargain is currently testing a randomised referral link system (as of August 2012), where a referral link is randomly picked from a pool of users who have previously submitted deals for that merchant. This is to reward members who have contributed to this community, as well as solving problems with deals that require referral codes.
Frequently Asked Questions
When you see a “Referral” overlay on the deal image link, clicking through it will use a referral code from a random OzBargain member. Usually when you make a purchase after clicking on a referral link, the user whom the referral code belongs to would be compensated by the merchant.
It is designed as a scheme to reward the participating members who helped to build the OzBargain community.
Only logged-in users will see the referral links. Non-logged in users, however, will usually see OzBargain's own affiliate links at the same place, where commissions from these purchases help to fund OzBargain.
Currently when you can click on the “Referral” overlay, a small popup will appear. If you click on “Direct link” it will lead you to the deal website without adding the referral code.
