God dammit. I just bought the ultimate edition last week so that I’d have it on release day for PS5.

    • +7

I bought it 2 months ago and it's still in shrink wrap lol

Looks like I can still return it to Amazon until Jan 31st

      • +2

Got in during EB's pre-xmas sale. Still unopened…

      • +1

Exact same! Looks like they now charge for some returns. I have to pay $7 to return :(

        • -3

If it's Amazon, just say product didn't meet expectations and you'll get a free return.

        • Doesn't sound legit, but it could be to cover postage if its an amazon thing.

          • @Intoxicoligist: Yeah it's the first time I've seen them charge for this. But after you ask for return, you can't change reason.
Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

    • +6

Also purchased it for $30 in the digital sale. Never would have guessed it would be free so early on. Bit irritating.

    • Same. If you havnt downloaded it u can still return it.
      I think

      • Needs to be within 14 days of purchase. Ah well, hard to tell with these things!

        • Yeah. Just read on their t &cs .
          Dammit

          • +1

@Junnyjun: They often name reception for ps+ titles, request one anyway.

            • @Agret: They make it hard.
U gotta go through a chat bot and it asks u how many days ago did u buy it.

          • @Junnyjun: I got a refund for greater than 14 days by raising a ticket.

It helped that I hadn't downloaded it.

        • That is what the policy says, but they refunded mine, took less then 24hours for them to issue the credit.
My purchase was about 20 days go.

          I just submitted this form, and selected refund;

          https://www.playstation.com/en-au/support/contact-us/contact…

I selected other, and just said I have not downloaded the content, request a refund.

They emailed back the same day, confirming I had not downloaded it.

    • +1

Ugh I'm exactly the same, bought digital edition, been waiting for patch. Bye bye $30.

      • Yep same boat. Microsoft’s Digital return policy is so much better.

        • +2

Microsoft says you can request an update but if it's outside of 14 days then it's not likely to be approved. I bought it last year for $30 as well, waiting for the Series X update, normal version came out on GamePass not long after.

This is all my fault for buying a PS5 last week, sorry guys

          • @iMacca: In my experience Microsoft don't and have not ever rejected a request for a digital refund.

Sony on the other hand has been hell getting refunds for defective \ faulty \ incorrectly described items.

            • @UltimateAI: Unsure why I was negged when I have actual facts with both Microsoft and Sony to back this up.
But I must say, that Sony surprised me with this one, and gave me a refund even though I was out of the 14 days and had not downloaded it.
They didn't even debate, just confirmed I had not downloaded it and issued the refund.

Either I got luckily, or they are more flexible, either way I am happy.

    • +1

Seems pretty easy to request a refund via here: https://www.playstation.com/en-au/support/contact-us/contact…

I also just purchased it in the recent sale (10 days ago) and luckily I didn't download since I got it in preparation for when the PS5 version hits. So hopefully there's a refund on the way.

      • +2

Thanks. It kept taking me into circles

      • I also just bought it and haven’t bothered to download till PS5 version hits. I’ve submitted the form hours ago with no confirmation….typical Sony. What can I expect?

        • I don't have a refund yet, but I got a confirmation e-mail with an incident number pretty much straight away after I submitted my request. If you didn't get that you might want to check your spam folder or resubmit your request.

        • I bought it in early January and hadn't downloaded it.

I requested a refund, and they have granted it despite being more than 10 days ago.

        • Have been rejected, despite never downloading it….this cannot be legal in AU right?

"Our store cancellation policy allows players to cancel a digital content purchase within 14 days from the date of purchase and receive a refund, provided that the content has not been downloaded or streamed. As the 14 days have now passed, we are unable to offer a refund for your purchase."

          • @muzzakus: Was that from the chatbot or submitting through the form?

I had success from using this link, and I purchased on 10 Jan which was outside the 14 day window when I submitted the request

            https://www.playstation.com/en-au/support/contact-us/contact…

            • +1

@Xenocaust: It was via the form you have there. Have resubmitted. The cheek of these corps, they know I haven’t touched it nor even downloaded.

              • +1

@muzzakus: This was the response I got:

Thanks for your email about Control

I can see that you haven't DOWNLOADED this yet, so I've provided a refund for the purchase price $29.97 back to your PAYMENT METHOD.

                Thanks,

                PlayStation Support

                • @Xenocaust: I used the same form, and got a response back that says:

Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately you’ve reached PlayStation Support team for the Middle East and we can’t help you this time.

Looking at your email, you need to speak to our team in Australia, and you’ll find their support details at https://www.playstation.com/en-au/get-help/contact-form/

                  -

I don't understand because I used the same form linked and the link has en-au in it… Even the email they replied to me from is [email protected]
Didn't expect a refund anyway though so oh well.

    • I was so close to doing the exact same thing. But I already have the base game and season pass and decided it wasn't worth $30 just for the PS5 patch.

    • We've all been there (I bought Days Gone in a great sale shortly before it was announced as a PS5 PS+ game). Typically Sony run a sale on the game prior to it becoming a free PS+ game, but outside of that there's no way to tell. It's just like buying something from Coles/WW for 30% off and then it goes half price the next week shrug

    • Well at least you’ll have something to look forward to late this year/early next year.

  • +9

    What an absolutely brilliant month!

  • +6

This is awesome. My PS5 is arriving today from Big W that I bought last week.

In the words of great man Homer “WooHoo!!!”

    • If you don’t like the adaptive triggers on the controller you can disable them. I had to disable on mine as the tension was too much on the games I play. Enjoy your PS5!

      • +2

I disabled mine for CoD, even though I like the feel they do give you a bit of a disadvantage. But for non competitive games I love them.

      • Maybe you should play some more relaxing games?

    • I got mine from target in November, enjoy

  • +5

Score, I was going to buy Control last month.

  • +6

Best month ever. Lucky I didn't buy control. Was very tempted at the recent sale

  • lol I got this from xbox live now it’s on ps5 too. Wish I could share the save files

  • +1

I can't for the life of me play shooters on a controller compared to a mouse, envious of those who can though.
Concrete genie looks pretty interesting though, so I can't complain.

Interested what they do for the PS5 going forth now that the 'pre-announced' ones are done with; still such a small library or things to dip into :S

    • Good question. Can't imagine developers will want to rush their games out while there are console shortages as it will mean less sales.

      • Much like Bugsnax, I wonder if they'll look toward some indies that were slated for a PS5 release anyway, like Little Devil Inside a little later on (Which would be annoying for those of us who backed the KS.. but hey)

        • Yeah, the PS+ games for PS4 in the early days were pretty much all indies, presumably for the same reason ie lack of other options.

    • +1

Same and all my friends play shooters. So im just getting carried everytime i play hahahaha

    • +1

I'm sure they'll just keep giving out PS4 games like Maneater, but only make them available on PS5 to sell more units.

      • +2

They're having no problem selling units, they can't get enough units out there to keep up with demand

    • It's funny, I'm so much better on phone than I am on gamepad, and I've been playing fps since golden eye. I just can't snipe on phones.

    • +1

I find myself being able to play FPS/TPS games on console and PC at the same level with PC being more manageable at the end of the day, I play shooters on PC and everything else on console.

      • I wish I could get better, claimed a bunch of these shooters from Plus over the years.

I'm Playing Days Gone from the Plus Collection at the moment (Amazing at 60fps!) but I absolutely suck at trying to hit anything. Been upgrading the focus mode and Melee abilities a lot.. :P

        • I know, aim assist makes it easier but depending on the person can make the experience feel like you are putting no effort in/ez mode.

Days Gone looks pretty fun, thinking of grabbing a PS4 on the cheap and playing some games I missed over the years.

  • +1

What an awesome month. Hopefully the Control PS5 patch comes out soon as well

    • Doesn’t the digital patch come out on the same day? (i.e. February 2)

  • +1

    Wow awesome month!!

  • +2

Control Ultimate Edition is a $59.95 game. I'm glad I didn't buy it last year,

  • +4

Ooh, nice! I really wanted to try Concrete Genie.

  • How is Control? - haven't seen much from it.

    • +5

It's SCP Foundation: The videogame in a semi openworld metroidvania third person shooter with supernatural powers. The lore and archival story building are its stronger points IMO.

    • +2

Tried a bit of it from XBox GamePass to complete a quest from memory. It is alright. Not a game I would personally fork out $$$ and buy, but free in PS Plus, definitely would collect it. I wouldn't buy it mainly because my pile of shame (backlog) is still growing and that includes a number of PS exclusives.

Hopefully, once the PS5 patch is available, we will see some hardware ray tracing support.

      • I tried it also last night and was underwhelmed.
Maybe I need to give it more time for the story to unfold but it almost felt like I missed a big chunk of the story before the game began (probably intended to be like that). Frame rate was too crap too for a game like this - I presume 30 fps on the previous gen version of the game?

        • +2

One reason Sony is giving this game free for Feb PS Plus is because the patch for PS5 and Series X will be released Feb 2. Therefore, people with PS5 will get to experience it with the next gen patch.

          • @netsurfer: Can you elaborate on what this PS5 patch is? Is it for this game specifically or is it a general performance boost for all games?

            • +2

@Smol Cat: For this game specifically… Next month control will get a next gen patch to take advantage of the new hardware. The frame rate on the PS4, especially the base model, was not too good so hopefully this patch will make it much better.

The kick in the guts for people like myself who owned the base game and the season pass, we wouldn't get the next gen patch unless we purchased the ultimate edition. So you have to buy the entire game again just to get the update.

            • @Smol Cat: Info from the official twitter account:

Control Ultimate Edition comes to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with a 60fps Performance Mode and 30fps Graphics Mode (with ray-tracing)

While we work on the full trailer, enjoy a sneak peek of both modes, recorded on PS5.

              Digital launch: Feb 2, 2021
              Retail launch: March 2, 2021

I really loved the world they created, the secret bureau dealing with all this crazy, bizarre, supernatural stuff. That carries it for a while, but the gameplay is ultimately fairly repetitive, I found myself going back and forth through the same areas a lot, fighting the same enemies with combat that isn't particularly engaging.

I got bored and gave up on it before finishing, but it would certainly worth giving it a go on PS+ since it's costing close enough to nothing, and you'll really enjoy those first few hours before it gets tedious.

  • +5

Control for free is pretty amazing.. this is probably one of my favorite months of PS Plus and I've got it since 2015.

  • Weird, thought I'd see the "subscription is not a deal" gang throwing negs here

    • +2

It's subscription, but if you don't add to your library in that month. Then you wouldn't able to play for "free" in the future.

    • +2

I think the difference is this is a scheduled one time a month PSA, not a inventory alert on RRP items.

  • +4

I can't tell you how many times I have almost bought this game

PlayStation are conditioning you not to buy games at this point

    • Haha same!

  • +2

So glad I held off buying control earlier this month

  • +1

Got Control Standard brand new for $20 at EB before X'mas and it is still Sealed…. invoice lost….

    Anyway good PS Plus month….

    • +3

Doesn’t EB Games also record the receipt electronically? I’m hoping you had a EB World card?

    • They allowed the Xbox post the other day, I said the same thing and got downvoted. I wasn't taking sides I own both consoles.

    • +2

      Move along then.

    • +1

Consider this a saving for those on PS+ and might have been about to buy these.

  • Another amazing monthly games, meanwhile Micro$oft tried to jack up Xbox Live to double….

I really should subscribe to PS Plus, is it worth it if I only play single player games though?

    • +2

If you get PS Plus on discount at $59~ish I am sure you will get the value out of it.
I am the same and don't play much online. Only play online when there is a free plus game that requires it.

    • Depends on how much you pay for your PS Plus. If it is ~$55 for a year, then you need to decide whether cloud save and PS Plus free games & PS Plus collection is worth it.

I didn't have PS Plus when my PS5 arrived (coz. with non-launch day pre-order, I wasn't sure when it will arrive) so I used local save game backup instead of cloud save to transfer save games (traded in my PS4 Pro so network transfer was not an option).

Realistically, these "free" games can be quite tempting. Depends on whether you have the will power to resist I guess.

      • As someone who's been on Xbox for the past 2 generations the PS Plus Collection is the biggest draw to getting a PS5 early on. I can catch up on all the greatest games I've missed over the past 12+ years and I get free current gen games each month as well. At this stage the only games I really want to get for PS5 are Last of Us part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, the rest I can get on PC for a fraction of the cost.

    • +1

Yeah, just look at all the PS Plus games the last year. If you grab it for $55-$59, it's amazing value!! That's like 1-2 games at sale prices and you get 3 a month!!

      • Sony should just give us all the previous monthly Plus games too if we subscribe now on PS5 😀😀

Would be one hell of an incentive

        • I wish they would do a Xbox Live style thing with all the past releases. I feel like thats the way of the future.

          • +2

@Intoxicoligist: That's almost what the instant game collection is, the best of PS4 for free when you get a ps5

            • @auir: It is, but if they dont add to it over time it's not going to have the same impact. That being said I've got about 8 games to play through now!

    • -1

PS Plus still pales in comparison to Game Pass though (especially if you're on Ultimate for PC games as well). Having gone MS for last gen and PS5 this gen, I'm really hoping Sony offer something that is a more direct competitor to Game Pass. With fickle kids who are always looking to play something new, having the bigger selection is great.

      • +1

GamePass Ultimate is good for children… Only thing is I wish our NBN would be faster and cheaper.

  • +3

Thankfully I controlled myself and never purchased this!

    • +1

But couldn't control yourself making that pun eh?

      • +1

I've never been one for constrained or contained environments..

  • So let me get this straight. I'm after Control only, and am not a member, so I can sign up for one month, download the game and then cancel membership?

    • +3

Yes, but you won't be able to play the game unless you have a current membership. So if you're OK with playing for just one month, then your plan will work.

    • +3

You'll only be able to play it while your sub is active. When your sub expires it'll stay in your library but you won't be able to play it til you resub.

      • +2

Think this was the best attempt to describe PS Plus. Some people who don't understand it think they might lose the game if the subscription ends. Knowing you can pick the game back anytime you re-subscribe is a huge relief. Totally different to game pass where you get a smallish time frame to play a game you want. Even smaller if you only discover the game and start playing it late into it's GP contract. IDK but GP is stressful incomparison to something like PS Plus due to that pacing issue.
