Considering the cost of student accommodation
I'm surprised a double sided fridge will fit in such homes :(
assuming student income covers in the first place

      • -2

I was more assuming for irony of the choices by Samsung
        than a gloating match

        • -3

I was correcting your assumption, not gloating but cool.

          • @ironik: I am not making incorrect assumption, I worked full time while student and purchase number of these items

But stating an income is not really necessary
Working student is enough to make a point

            • @cski: @ironik Y'all are both odd.

      • what are you ? 40 something?

      • Yes but the education store IS aimed at poor 20 somethings in student housing. You definitely aren’t the target demographic

I've had two Samsung fridges, both ended up with the same issue. Not sure if I can ever trust their fridges again.

    • +3

      Although I don't question.
I checked my fridge today I bought in 2012 it seems to be Samsung.

    • +1

      What issue?

      • +7

Something to do with the defrost drainage system. It would get completed frozen, causing it to be blocked and water would leak out from the bottom and fridge will stop chilling effectively too. The first fridge was a french door one, probably only started having the issue after about 8 years. The second fridge I had was a smaller top mount fridge, started having this problem only after about 5 years. We use the fridge normally, and always remind the kids to check the doors and make sure they're fully closed as well, so can't imagine this to be caused by misuse. I can turn off the fridge and let the iced drainage melt completely, but over time it gets very annoying so had to eventually replace.

        • +8

My Samsung is having the same issue and it is a common fault with Samsung fridges. They are good with Phones and TVs but will not buy their white goods
          .

          • @bb_hunter: Not so great with TVs as well.

        • +5

I’m having this issue too - after maybe 6-7 years? Other brand fridge still going good after ~12 years.

        • My F&P did that.

        • My Samsung french door last 10 years when fan started freezing up , technician came twice said it was a design issue so got rid of it and moved on. Overall, 10 years is ok for a fridge.

          • +2

@alz: I had the exact same thing with my Samsung fridge, maybe 4 years old. I got JB hi-fi to replace it with an LG French door. I wrote to the JB store I bought it from (DFO Homebush) an email saying it's a manufacturing issue that would have prevented me from buying it had I known about the issue, they refunded me the Samsung fridge. They barely grumbled about it, they just kind of accepted it.

        • +1

Same issue withy samsung fridge ~8 years old. Ice build up on both the fridge and freezer due to the drainaige being blocked. Common issues with these fridges

        • +1

Solution: I have had the same issue for the last 3 years. Its a pain to unblock frozen ice. Takes me hours n hours and no turkey blaster helps. So this time after the drain was unblocked - I used the metal picture hanging wire from bunnings - wrapped it around the heating element loosely so that it kind it sits just above the surface and then put the other end of the wire in the drainage hole. 6 months now and the fridge has no frozen drainage anymore. I will be buying a new fridge soon and it wont be Samsung. My Samsung front load washer just died last week - broken spider arm. Samsung Dishwasher crapped out last year as well. NO MORE SAMSUNG'S FOR ME!!!

    • I've had my Samsung french door since 2008. Hasn't missed a beat.

    • +1

Currently using one we've had for ten years with no issues.

    • +1

After dealing with the same issue on my French door refrigerator for five years, I decided to switch to an LG refrigerator. I've also heard that Samsung refrigerators have experienced similar problems in Korea. Based on my personal experience, I will only consider purchasing LG refrigerators in the future.

    • +1

      LG fridge. No issues

      • My LG is the noisiest fridge I have ever had and LG advised tgat its normal level of noise from their fridge and build quality (cosmetically) is not the best. It replaced a Samsung that had the ice maker issue but Samsung refunded all money even after 5 years. Samsung's build quality was great and separate meat section was fantastic for fridge organising.

    • Yep.

Samsung make great phones, tablets and TVs but sh1t appliances.

      Never again.

      • Samsung make great phones, tablets and TVs but sh1t appliances.

Samsung have done brilliant marketing and their phones are ok, but they are not what I'd call great.

Their TV panels are really good though.

    • I bought one in 2008, moved house 3 times, it's never skipped a beat.

  • +2

Beware of delivery delays if you need one quickly.

I'd just gotten Tvs, soundbar and Bespoke vacs delivered in March, early compared to the date i selected so ordered a fridge on 23 March for delivery on 3 April.
When it was delivered to me on 14 April it had a dispatch sticker on it showing Samsung gave it to the delivery company on 1 April so it the next 2 week delay was on them.

    • Get appliances online to price match?

      • I doubt they will because its a student only offer.

        • Hmm good point

      • I don't think AO do that anymore.

    • +2

I ordered my TV from them in November, and it still hasn't arrived. I keep calling them, they keep saying, "we will organise within 2 weeks" and then nothing…

635L plumbed cheaper if you need bigger

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/771410

    • 635L just enough for a family, 488L too small!

      • Yep we are upgrading our 450L which is now too small with a family.

    • Yeah I don’t get why this deal is getting upvotes. Other deal is much better and still available

  • +5

    Once bitten, twice shy.

  • +4

Why are students buying large French door fridges?

      • +4

Lol 100k is pleb money these days. 200k is where arrogance starts to take hold.

        • +2

          correct.

        • +1

Depends on age, 25 years old or under on 100k is arrogance.

          • -4

@Bearlion: Yes I would probably agree with that. I still remember the feeling at 28 getting my first 100k job….. Went and bought a new bmer lol and thought I was the shit. But that was a 1 series pissant….. 12 yrs later I'm onto an M3 which is proper. Always remember though, there's someone out there earning more than you….. Keeps one humble.

            • @Lets Make Sandwiches: Yes always stay humble. How much do you make to justify purchasing the M3?

              • @juicyg6: Around 250 - 300 depending on how bonus plays out. But I also put money into other things like property, as cars are obviously a guilty pleasure given depreciation. Key is balance of course.

I will never forget the guy on here from westpac who bought the bmer as a high yield investment. Just crazy and probably the most famous person on ozbargain. Literally the most vain thing someone can do - buy the car for yourself cos you like driving it, not for other people.

            • @Lets Make Sandwiches: Humility should have nothing to do with what you earn. 'There's someone out there earning more than you.' Who cares though? That should have no impact on how you perceive yourself or others. It sounds like you're saying you're 'proper' now you have an M3 vs 'pissant' on a 1 series. Neither means anything

Sorry thats not intended as a personal attack or anything. You sound like you have perspective. I more just meant that salary or car you drive really shouldn't make someone arrogant or think they're better than anyone else. Salary, house, cars etc don't determine people's worth

              • @[Deactivated]: I think you're reading into the comment too much. There's a few things that people compare themselves on and logically the most popular one is how much money one makes. I definitely don't think me as a person is proper based on the car I drive….. The car alone is what I'm referring to.

Edit…. Just reread comment and it was a typo. Meant to say that the car was the shit, not me. Can't edit as it's already been replied to.

                • +1

@Lets Make Sandwiches: Haha gotcha mate! Don't worry - I got enough from your overall comment/vibe to see you're not actually some arrogant douche who thinks driving a particular car makes you better than anyone else. Makes sense man and I agree!

    • You don't need to be a student. You just need an .edu. email. So anyone working in education can buy these too.

    • Maybe they are from Paris

    • 25 living in one house due to rising rents!

    • It’s not just current students. Anyone with a uni email can access this.
I finished uni about 25 years ago , still got a phone via Education portal.

  • +1

Why samsung offer to students only? Can they really afford this expensive fridge?

  • +1

Because students in uni needs a $2000 fridge. why is this on Samsung education website?

  • +2
  • Anyone having problems checking out? I get to check out page but can't actually press 'Check out.' Everytime I do, nothing happens. Have tried different devices, different browsers.

    • I do on iOS, can’t checkout at all

  • +4

Don't EVER EVER order off Samsung's online store. Any saving is not worth it….

I ordered a stick vacuum off their website (education store) early last February with a bonus clean station. I received it in late April I think after putting in a dispute with my bank. Still waiting for the clean station. Samsung wouldn't return emails, I'd get to number 5 in the online chat queue and then it would cut out, whenever calling they would say "Call back later" even when calling first thing.

Check out their reviews on Product review - https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/samsung-online-sto…

  • +2

Don't forget the Samsung washing machines that burned a few houses down…make sure your insurance is up to date before purchase

  • +5

Samsung Online Store is a complete mess. Don't ever order directly from Samsung. Just look up their reviews on ProductReview.com. If you are willing to wait months to get your products then go for it.

    • I heard they had some logistics issues because they changed carriers. I ordered the 635L for delivery on the 8th May, let's see what happens. Not in any rush for it.

      • 8th May 2024?

      • +1

lol they have been having logistic issues since years. They were having the same issue when I ordered from them a year back. The truth is that its all messed up and they don't give a damn. You would be lucky if you get it on 8th may. My delivery date was pushed 4 times before I literally threatened to take them to ACCC after which I finally got the product delivered.

  • +1

Samsung is the worst. I ordered more than $2500 in Feb and haven’t got them. They are saying it is OOS and no updates but Costco has same model in stock.

  • +3

Never buying from samsung online. Ordered a TV 2 months ago. Many, many calls to the call centre and still no sign of when it will be delivered.

  • +3

Waiting for one with Australian door.

  • I’ve had the drainage issues with my Samsung fridge with water pooling in the crisper. They recently serviced and fixed the issue under warranty. No problems since.

Issue is the clip is not big enough to melt the ice in the drain, causing it to block and overspill. If you’re not under warranty any more, you can find the clip on eBay and easily install it yourself.

  • Samsungs own price is $1849, so the rrp on the edu site is just trying to make to discount bigger than what it really is.

  • Samsung has the worst customer service and delivery I've had for an appliance company. I bought directly from their online store and the fridge I got was caved in on one corner. I didn't accept the delivery and they said I would have to wait weeks for a new one. As I was moving into my new house in a couple weeks I just bought another of the same model so the brand new delivery would get here faster.

They ended up sending me the exact same damaged fridge… so I was stuck with 2 charges and one damaged fridge which they didn't want to replace, only fix with refurbished parts. It took 7-8 months of emails and a threat to ACCC for them to finally sort out the issue for me.

The fridges looks great but the service has really left a bad taste in my mouth.

  • +1

Just to provide an alternative perspective, had my fridge delivered today on time as scheduled within the 3 hour window (WA based). Time will tell re: quality

    • Good 👍 stuff. Keen to hear how others go. I ordered the other Samsung fridge from the other post and selected the very start of June as I’m away for a few weeks.

Gives me hope it might so smoothly if a WA order was fulfilled so quickly.
