Just use paper towel and water

    • Ingredients: Water, Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol

You would have to add those things to the paper towel too

      • -1

Because paper towel is nothing but essence of tree?

        Phenoxyethanol affects brain development fyi

        • +13

You're not supposed to use them on the brain.

        • +4

So, I just 'did my research' and couldn't find any research articles claiming that Phenoxyethanol affects brain development. Could you provide your research?

          • +3

@Zythyx: The first thing that pops up on google when I search it is: Infant oral exposure to phenoxyethanol can acutely affect nervous system function.

The recorded incidents of bad nervous system interaction in infants has been a cause for concern where in 2008, the FDA warned consumers not to purchase a nipple cream with Phenoxyethanol in it because it was depressing the central nervous system and causing vomiting and diarrhea in breast feeding infants. Symptoms of a depressed nervous system include a decrease in infant’s appetite, difficulty waking the infant, limpness of extremities and change in skin color.

It’s safe for adults to use topically in very low concentrations, if you plan on using these wipes on infants I'd suggest not using around the face or anywhere where they might ingest it (e.g hands if they like to stick their hands in their mouth).

          • @Zythyx: Apologies, got the brain and nervous system mixed up. Was in a rush this morning!

        • +1

Thanks for this and other people commenting about phenoxyethanol. Cancelled my order and got the huggies

          • -1

@gakko: Are you sure Huggies dosent contain Phenoxyethanol also? Because good chance it does.

            • @ego22: Good chance, based on what?

            • +2

@ego22: They don't. In the time it took you to comment that you could have googled it.

        • How can they sell these things with that in it! OMG.

          • @Coops1: Your not supposed to eat them

            • +1

@Korban Dallas: People rub wipes all over their babies face and hands and feet and babies eat their hands and feet..
But this will go through their skin away without them eating it.

              • @ego22: Pretty sure babies don’t eat their hands and feet. They might stick them in their mouths though.

          • +1

            @Coops1: Money.

    • +1

Not sure why people neg you for the paper towel and water, only wet when needed, that is literally what i use too at home. And use waterwipes when out and about.

  • +1

Amazon matching Chemist Warehouse I assume - https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/87324/curash-simply-…

  • Huggies water wipes around same price range 0.03.

    Need more decimals though

  • +1

Do not buy this. Don't buy any baby product containing Phenoxyethanol

    • Even if the ‘baby’ who is going to use it is me? Serious question.

      • +2

        Healthline says:
You should avoid this chemical if you’re:

        allergic to it
        pregnant
        breastfeeding
considering using on a child under 3-years old

    • I will buy this.

      • You are the only person that gets my blessing to buy this. I only want you to buy this

  • +1

    Woolworths homebrand cheaper per wipe.

  • +2

I am negging this deal cause of the chemical Phenoxyethanol.

    • but they didn't charge extra when the added it, so its free. buy the wipes and water, and get Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, and Caprylyl Glycol for free.

    • What do you use instead?

      • Waterwipes

      • +1

        Wotnot brand wipes.

    • What’s the issue? Do you have a reference to suggest this chemical at the amounts on this product is an issue?

      • +1

Lol why would you put anything on your child that "should be safe in low doses" when you can use an equivalent that has 0 potential risks?

        • +1

Because many chemical are safe at low doses. Toxicity is dose dependent.

Alcohol (ethanol) is a poison at high doses doesn't stop people at drinking it. Likewise with table salt, it's toxic at high doses but at low doses it posses no threat.
If the assertion is phenoxyethanol is toxic, then a dose should be specified and the effects of toxicity stated otherwise this is just opinions.

          • @gamemaster: You forgot you can die of a water overdose.

High doses of things that are essential to life cannot be compared to things that are inessential but convenient and potentially toxic at any level.

As if you wouldn't err on the side of caution when it comes to your child's life.

            • @7hours 44min ago:

              potentially toxic at any level.

              essential

These are subjective terms, who decides what is essential or inessential? Animal based protein can be considered essential to some and inessential to others. Who decides?

My point is if an assertion is made the onus is for you to prove it. If there is no studies to verify your claims then it’s just opinion and carries little weight. The claim being made is phenoxyethanol is toxic, all I am asking is show me the references used to make that claim.

              • @gamemaster: Use it all you want mate, just put as much on yourself as you do to someone who wholly relies on you to make good decisions for them.

                • @7hours 44min ago: You missed the point. I never said to use it or that I think it is safe or vice versa. I am asking for proof/evidence/reference for the claim it is toxic or causes harm in the concentrations used in this product.

  • Has the S&S discount gone up? I thought it was10%, now this is 15%.

  • Aren't woollies $10?

huggies is much thicker, $2.5 this week.

  • For some reason I find the ones from amazon to be a bit on the dry side compared to the supermarkets one.

    • I'd guess they ship older inventory via Amazon sellers.

  • +1

Thanks for all the comments. I'd been using these and now I've just cancelled my order. I was obviously not aware… Thanks all!

  • +2

Phenoxyethanol is only harmful if ingested just like lego blocks and toys.

Great to see some people not buying it…. More wipes for the people not wearing tin hats.

    • You don't think it's not absorbed via the skin.

But there are probably compounds you using now which are bad.

      Past talc powder.

Future. Plastic etc. what ever they put in diapers

    • -2

"To keep yourself and your baby healthy, it's crucial to stay committed to skin and health care products that use safe, effective, and natural ingredients. Whenever possible, steer clear from the ingredient phenoxyethanol in your and your baby's creams, lotions, shampoos, and other skin care products"

      • Each to their own… People can draw the line where they want.

These people who want to avoid chemicals like these should also avoid any flights (increased radiation with travel), swimming pools (chlorine etc), or walking near cars (exhaust fumes) etc

        • +1

And a lot of people usually do as you suggest for their very young baby.

  • -2

The same people terrified about Phenoxyethanol (which is only harmful if CONSUMED) are the same people looking out for KFC/Maccas deals and very likely feed their toddlers fries whilst letting them watch an iPad all day.

    • Are you saying its safe for all other areas apart from the mouth?

    • This reminds me of a documentary I was watching which claimed the worse thing you could order from these fast food places is the fries.

    • Mouth and any other body part or object that the child may put in their mouth (hand, foot, toy, etc).

  • im getting a higher price for SS $14.69

  • As someone who doesn't care about the phenoxyethanol - how is this as an actual product, how do these compare to other brands?

    • +1

It's fine as a wet wipe. Does the job. There are no doubt thicker ones, thinner ones, larger ones, smaller ones, bluer ones, pinker ones, nicer smelling ones, etc etc on the market.

    • +1

We switched to these from Huggies as the Huggies ones were seemingly getting drier and drier each box we ordered.
      Haven't looked back

  • Those saying this product is no good, can you tell me please what is the alternative?
