Is it worth buying decomposable bags? Else our crap will be trapped for decades in the bags.
Don't throw away garbage (that cant be composted) in compostable bags. When the bag eventually decomposes, all the garbage will be released in to the environment and carried away by wind water etc.
1) To throw away garbage (non-compostable) - Use a plastic bag like the one in this deal. Keeping it all contained for as long as possible.
2) For compostable items (food scraps, garden waste etc) - use compostable bags and put them in your garden waste bin
3) and of course recyclables in your recycling bin without placing them in any plastic bags.
By following the above strategy, im only throwing away 1-2 bags of garbage a week compared to 4-5 a few years back. Its all about sorting your trash!
Ya i need to invest in home composting stuff. definitely pending work. For smaller bins we reuse the veggie/fruit bags that we get from coles woolies.
Check your council. Some councils including mine give you free kitchen caddies + rolls of compostable bags. When im about to run out of bags, i just put another request in thought the council website and a week later they drop off a new roll at the front.
@Tazzaaa: We have 2 young kids, but average 1-2 small size bag of garbahe each week.
We will be ok even if we are not environmental aware. But the coming generations will suffer.
@Chinese: Either robots will kill us or they will clean the mess we made for us. So coming generation wont suffer probably ;)

I like the wavetop design which makes it easy to tie up and carry when it's full.
I find it strong enough for my typical kitchen and household rubbish - it's much stronger than some cheaper bulk bags I've tried. I switch to thicker stronger bags when I have larger or heavier things to dispose of though.
