I'm fairly certain that these are identical to the standard Fishman Modern Fluence's (without Heafy's name) - these are great and have become my go to when comparing to EMG 81-85's and SD Blackouts (I have all 3). They are probably one of the hottest pickups I've played on.

I like the multiple voicings with the push-pull on my FGN JIL Iliad which practically lets me choose between having either an 'active' or 'passive' humbucker sound as I mainly play heavy music. I usually like passive sounding humbuckers as they sound and feel a bit more natural but I really like the active mode on these and just stay on that, it's very tight and punchy.

I don't have experience with installing this particular set as my guitar came with it but it will definitely require some knowledge of electronics (and possibly soldering? Someone can clarify that). Can always take it to a professional guitar tech to get it installed.

    • I also have guitars with stock EMG 81/85 set and SD blackouts, but swapping those Fishman pick-ups needs soldering, so I haven't pull the trigger so far, believe EMG pick-ups have quick connects which is an much easier installation than soldering.

I have Moderns and open coil classics, but I don't have any of.the signature models. But regular moderns have a coil tap option (and a 6db boost) as solder pads rather than a true third EQ profile for single coil voicing like the open core classics do. My understanding is the Heafys have the 2 voicings from the Moderns, but actually have the third EQ for the single coils like the OCC. The third voicing is solder pads on the PCB but writing up for the standard two is quick connects to the pickups themselves, but to pots switches and jacks is no more difficult than any other pickup. You might want to consider toggle switches rather than the included push pulls for switching voices if you are putting them in something slimmer than a LP though because even though they are mini pots they are quite tall.

  • Great to see another guitar related deal. Thanks OP

  • +1 for a Matt Heafy product on Oz bargain. No idea of its a bargain, but he's such a gear nerd so I can't see him endorsing junk.
