I have the soundbar hooked up to a 65" LG G1, it's good but feel its also underwhelmed in sound quality.

How can a soundbar be good if it has underwhelming sound quality? Surely that's the entire point of the thing?

      • Its good, in that it enhances the sound compared to that of the TV speakers, but overall I dont think its a high quality soundbar, so its not great. But you get what you pay for. I got it for $424 on sale from TGG, and with another $20 cash back at the time from Cash Rewards (this was about a year ago) so around $400 all up. Im not disappointed, but mainly use it for watching movies and wasn't really impressed with the quality. I might move it to my gaming TV (55" LG C1) instead, and pay a bit more for something better to go with the G1.

I have the Sonos setup (sub + Arc + Ikea symphonisk) and I find the sound as good as watching in the cinemas.

Sell it. No soundbar will beat a decent 5.1/7.1 setup if you have the room for it.

        • Right, well soundbars are obviously a compromise between size and quality anyway, so I guess when you said it was underwhelming, I was assuming you meant compared to what you expected from a soundbar at that price.

I honestly think a decent set of bookshelf speakers set about a metre from the tv either side is more than sufficient for immersive sound. As long as your lounge/tv room isn't a church hall.

I had full Dolby 5.1 20years ago watching 480p DVDs on a 100inch rearpro and thought it was the ducks nuts. But it's Just not worth the effort these days, or money. Id rather spend it on a new musical instrument for the kids or a nice holiday in Italy. As long as you can crank some music on YouTube and enjoy your steamer of choice. Wgaf….

Stereo and record player, now that's a different matter lol

@Micsmit: Not only that, but a better quality stereo and sub setup is still better than an equivalent 5.1/7.1 setup anyway

            • @cille745: Agreed. Especially if you are playing your music/record player through it as well.

            • @cille745: For music maybe. The point of surround sound is that the audio comes from around you. Maybe they should word it better…something to indicate the sound surrounds you or something

              • @Salmando: Do you really need to hear rain drops over your left shoulder in a movie when the screen is in front of you? It's a gimmick

                • @Micsmit: Depends what you watch. As a horror movie fan it's vastly better.

Also for video games - massive difference. Point is, of your want a good audio experience, these soundbars are average at best.
If aesthetics matter, the bars are an upgrade.

No surrounds so no real surprise there

  • Hard to get since the TV appears as "Pick Up Only" in cart and the eligible soundbars don't seem to be available on any pick up locations near me.

You want the shops to adjust to where you live?

      • +1

No, I think the point is unless you have the means to pickup a boxed 83" TV yourself (or hire a truck) you can't get it. Delivery from HN is blanked out, and I think (happy to be corrected if wrong) that even the largest of SUVs won't fit this in the back (unless you perhaps want to drive with a 5.5k TV bouncing on a 45 degree angle.

        • +5

Oh, that and physically be seen entering a HN store 🤮

    • Begging a deal because it doesn't suit you. That's not how the system works.

    • I think I wasn't clear enough. I'm UNABLE to check out because none of the shops have the soundbar. So literally unable to get the deal! Hence the negging.

"with any soundbar" what a deal breaker

    • +1

Apologies mate - shouldve written eligible 2023 LG soundbar - the ones eligible for this deal say so on the website

does it come with a screen protector?

    • I understood this reference!

Going to hold firm for the G4 or the G5. Ideally they put MLA tech, on to the C5 series in 2025.

    • +3

when G5 comes you will be waiting for G6

      • I just want MLA, on the C series in 83" - the MLA is G only and damned expensive :(

  • +3

The marketing jargon on sound bars has to be the biggest scam of all time… "What if we made one speaker and called it a 3.1.2 speaker sound system!"

  • -1

    This is a fantastic deal.
If size is not a concern then you may get new LG C3/G3 or Sony OLEDs on the Marketplace for much lesser than the deals going around.
