gonna try and run this CPU with my new RTX4070 on a 500w SFX Silverstone PSU, wish me luck

    • +2

5950X literally sips power compared to Intel.

      • Power connoisseur you might say…… Also Gluck Zanzir :)

  • Absolute beast of a cpu

      • +10

5950X has 16 cores and 32 threads. Absolutely demolishes the 12600KF in multi core.

        • +3

          5950x 47k vs 12600kf is 27k on cpu passmark.
Pick a fractionally better single core score all you want, but its at the expense of so much overall speed across all the cores.

          • @superroach: But it's also significantly more expensive, a better comparison would be the 12700KF for $324. ~10% slower in multithreaded, ~10% faster in single threaded and games.

            • @BROKENKEYBOARD:

              also significantly more expensive.

Though by the same token it would require a different motherboard for “those on AM4 looking for a final upgrade”. Especially if you want a decent motherboard.

      • +4

        E cores don't count.

  • -2

if only there was a 5900x3d id upgrade my 5900x from it

  • -3

5800x3d is 4% faster in gaming.

    • +3

The average doesn't tell the whole story. The 5800X3D can be +20% faster in some games. 5950X is a decent gaming CPU though, Zen 3 saw massive boosts to gaming performance.

  • Free returns?

I'm thinking of getting this cause I feel my rtx3080 is being bottlenecked by something. Whether it's ram, or MOBO or CPU. As everytime I play helldivers my computer crashes and then it's fine afterwards

Also my frame rates at least 15-20% lower but maybe it's cause I got two screens on?

    • Could be your PSU too?

    • I had a similar problem with my graphics card after undervolting it. I tried everything I could find on the internet, and I was almost ready to give up. In the end, I decided to change my Silverstone power supply to a Corsair RMx unit when it was on sale. That fixed the issue, and I haven't experienced any crashes or freezes since then. Could be another thing for you to look into

    • +1

I'm guessing you've updated bios and gpu drivers?
What does system events and task manager tell you?
Is this happening to other games too?

      • +1

Good idea i should look at this and check if I see anything next itme I play helldivers

    • It's the game. Helldivers has thousands of people complaining about it causing soft crash, full reboot. I was in the boat of full reboot with no bsod. Search it up on reddit.

I was getting full reboot, extremely frustrating.

    • Free returns?

Not for change of mind (you need to pay for return postage).

    • Any luck?

I think it's the game in your instance, not your hardware. Triple check before you drop any money into the 'upgrade'.

      You may not need it.

      • Funny enough it didn't crash last night. However I am seeing that my CPU is running around 99 where as my GPU is running around 70-80%. I currently have a 5800X

        • No game should be taking up 99% of a CPU, you probably have something running in the background that's hogging the CPU from the game..

  • I wish we had these deals on the 7800X3D.

I've been hunting but can't get it below $571.

Got mine for $476 au delivered including gst last sale, brilliant absolutely brand new, price about $509 now

      • Wow, no way, can you please link us up @Wayne7497?

I'd jump on that like a seagull on chips.

        • +1

Yeah sent pm wont allow link in thread

          • @Wayne7497: Thanks mate!

          • @Wayne7497: Would also like to know

            • +1

@krayl: Don't know why Wayne's first comment got negged.
It's from aliexpress, for the general public wondering.

  • Waiting for 5950x3d

I have this beauty. Has been phenomenal

  • +1

Unfortunately my cooler is not sufficient to cool this hot boi.

    • +2

Get a Thermalright Peerless Assassin https://www.amazon.com.au/Thermalright-Peerless-TL-C12C-S-Al…

Only $49.90, and reviews show it cools just about anything pretty well. I've got one and no complaints.

      • +3

Get the Phantom Spirit for extra $6

    • Temps aren't too bad with this chip if you are willing to undervolt.

By default, my gigabyte x570i was running the chip at 1.5V. all core boost was hitting 4.3ghz at 90C+ and precision boosting to 4.7ghz at 90C+ as well on a 240mm AIO in an itx case (jonsbo V8). It was also idling around 50-60C on winter.

I dropped the voltage with a -0.15V offset and run curve optimiser at -25 on 5 cores and -30 on 11 cores and now the all core boost is hitting 4.7ghz at 65C and precision boosting up to 5.05ghz at 74C. Idle is down to low 40C as well in winter.

From what I've read on Reddit, most motherboards run the default voltage too high for this chip and cause tenperature issues.

      • Wow, that's an awesome find.

Did you spend a lot of time on finding the right voltage to get it to perform so well? That's am amazing cooling performance jump.

        • +1

There were a bunch of people posting on Reddit that the default voltage is meant to be around 1.35V so I started from there with the offset. Took a while to figure out the stable curve optimiser setting. Tried -30 on all cores but was getting random crashes. Used event viewer to figure out which cores were unstable and scaled them up to -25.

          • @DangerNoodle: I'm looking to buy the 7800X3D so I hope I don't have to do any of these things with it.

            Just fit and forget.

            • +1

@lordra: For the most part it will be. From what I recall reading with the x3d chips, they're more sensitive to incorrect mounting pressure. You probably won't need to run offset voltage but you can get better temps from curve optimiser.

              • @DangerNoodle: Thanks mate. I'll reach out if I can't figure it out in the near future. All very new for me, so excited about it!

  • I have this and I dislike it in the winter, it idles too hot.

So I have bought a used 5600x to swap.

    • See my post above regarding undervolting. Most motherboards run the default voltage too high. You'll have to find out how low you can drop the voltage but I was able to get the idle temps in winter to around 40C.

  • How would this pair with a 1080ti?

    • Your 1080Ti would be the bottleneck for gaming

    • It will pair just fine, no bottlenecks. Your gpu will be able to run at Max, all the time. Until you get a new gpu. 😁

    • If it's only for games it's not a good match value wise, it'll barely be any faster than a 5600 or 5700X.

  • +1

    Down to 547.15.
    Bought one anyways🤦

    Buy now think later strategy

  • Wow thats the same price i paid for my 5600x back in january 2021

  • +1

I recommend undervolting this for free performance at lower temps. It's dead easy. Follow this guide by a fellow Aussie.

  • Tempted. I do a lot of adobe lightroom work, and frequently edit with premiere also. Later this year i have a significant project where I'll be on premiere and after effects daily for months….

But my 5800x3d is going great and i don't know if i can be bothered retesting all my software configs after putting in a new cpu.

  • Already using a 5800x , don’t see a point in upgrading? I do however have a custom water cooling loop which will require me to drain to remove CPU .. Worth it?? Don’t do heavy multitasking, just pure gaming.

    • +1

Not worth it unless your workload is software dev or workstation duties.

  • Currently rocking a 5600x with a 2080S. Worth buying this or a going to a whole new platform?

    • Depends on your usage. For gaming, you want a 7800X3D or 9800X3D (or whatever it'll be called).

For a cheap-ish productivity upgrade to tide you over another year or two, the 5950X is pretty good value.

However, if you need more ram or a better mobo, might as well just put the money towards AM5 or intel's next platform.

  • Even cheaper now. 539. Considering that the price includes GST, should be eligible for TRS?

  • Will this work with 4070 super using bronze 650w psu?

  • Should i upgrade from a 3700x?

    • its $535 now is this ATL?

  • Also dont forget https://www.topcashback.com.au/giftz/ for extra 5% back on amazon

  • Think this expired for now, I missed out 😢

    • +1

That price comes back every 3-4 weeks, so set a C3 alert and wait.

      Or wait for Zen5

      • will do thanks 👍

  • Has anyone had theirs shipped yet?
