3G Switch off - Won't Be Able to Make 000 Calls

I have a Xiaomi Note 11 Pro, it's only about a year old. It is a 4G phone and uses VoLTE to make calls.

However, I've been getting messages from my provider (Belong) saying that my phone uses 3G to make 000 calls.

Obviously I need a phone that can call 000, but if the above is true, it's going to be costly to replace an already relatively new phone.

How many people are affected by this? Surely many Ozbargainers have handsets built overseas and would have the same issue? Is there any other solution given my phone is a 4G handset?

Have had the same comment from some friends with grey market handsets, a Galaxy S7 and a Korean market LG. Both are on Aldi, which uses Telstra. Might be time for an upgrade

It wasn't an expensive phone. Buy another one and use the old one as a music player or something.

Carry a second phone for 000 calls.

I think you'll be fine. Reason I say this is because I have a couple of services with Belong as well and they've flagged the 4G LTE modem/module that I use with my BlackVue dashcam as being a device that uses 3G and may no longer work. I think they have some identifying issues in terms of devices that can use both 3G & 4G and not linking that my module (which they identify as a Quectel EC25-E) supports 4G and should be fine. If your mobile supports VoLTE, then you're good, I wouldn't think you'll need to do anything.

Telstra has launched an SMS tool that customers can use to determine whether their device will be affected by simply text messaging “3” to 3498. details here

    • Worked for both my 5G phones. Neither particularly new. One grey, the other an Australian model bought after I found out what problems you can have if you buy a grey market phone through Kogan.

What I wasn't clear about from the numerous reports about this service was whether it only worked for people like me whose phones used Telstra as the carrier, or whether it worked for Optus and Vodafone carrier customers too.

  • Received the same msg for my Xiaomi mi9t recently. Just going to keep it until it actually stops working

    • I'm going to be pretty annoyed if I need to upgrade my Mi9T. Its more than fast enough still for everything I do.

I bought it in 2019 and its still going strong. I've never even dropped it so its still in perfect condition!

To be fair though, the only real emergency I can see here is shelling out $150 bucks expensive

  • I wonder if we get updates to have a soft switch to disable 3g, or other ways to for disable 3g

  • I'd really like to know wth is going on? I have the Xiaomi Mi Max 2. Granted it's an older mobile, but it works fine, great battery, and 16:9 ratio that you can't get anymore. SO, I tried to research "what" determines Vo(LTE) and get various dissenting info. Some say hardware some say software, some say both???
According to this article, it does support VoLTE:

This, is the screenshot of my available network types.

I was going to try a ROM at the point that the Android version became unusable, but wasn't thinking any time soon. Now don't know?

SOLVED: device VoLTE must support 700khz (Band 28)
