  • Do they have use by dates, ?

    Where’s the Netflix discount cards?

  • +1

Can these be used on Apple education? What is the highest denomination of these cards?

    • +3

      yes, $500 iirc

      • Sorry, what does iirc mean?

        • +5

          If I recall correctly, iirc

          • -2

@IgG: Oh cool. Don’t believe that is correct then. Up to 8 gift card, not $500 bux

            • @iWan: You can just add it to your account so there’s no limit.

  • +1

Hi, I’m looking to purchase a new iPhone soon, can I just double check how these work? Do I need to load these gift cards in the Apple Store? And do they only work by purchasing directly from Apple? So can’t use it for price beat at officeworks?

    • +10

can I just double check how these work? Do I need to load these gift cards in the Apple Store?

Apple gift cards can be used to purchase goods and services at the Apple Store (as well as media/subscriptions through the App Store).

You can redeem Apple gift cards at:

      • A physical Apple Store (and I believe the redemption limit is 20 Apple gift cards per transaction).
      • Over the phone at 133 MAC (and I believe the redemption limit is 8 Apple gift cards per transaction).
      • Online at Apple's various online stores, including their regular Apple Store, the Apple Education Store, Apple EPP portals and Apple AOC Education Stores (and the redemption limit is 8 Apple gift cards per transaction).

Alternatively, you can add Apple gift cards to your Australian Apple Account Associated Balance and then redeem that balance over the phone at 133 MAC or online at Apple's various online stores (and you can redeem up to 8 Apple gift cards in conjunction with the Associated Balance in the same transaction).

And do they only work by purchasing directly from Apple? So can’t use it for price beat at officeworks?

Apple gift cards are only redeemable directly at Apple. Apple gift cards are not redeemable at Apple Authorised Resellers (e.g. Officeworks, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys).

      • +1

additional note, if you're planning on doing AppleCare with giftcards you need to use physical cards in an Apple Store. While you can buy the phone/ipad/macbook/etc using redeemed balance on your account, you need to use physical cards to pay instore for AppleCare. Not redeemed to your account balance. Not sure why, it's annoying AF, but that is how they do things.

        • +1

You cannot use an Apple Account Associated Balance for any purchases in a physical Apple Store in Australia, not just for AppleCare+. It seems like you are referring to the fact that you can purchase hardware (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Mac) from an Apple Online Store and opt to click & collect from a physical Apple Store, but in that situation, you are effectively purchasing from the Apple Online Store, because payment is being processed on the Apple Online Store.

Btw, iOS 15.5 added a feature where you add your Apple Account Associated Balance to the Wallet app for redemption at a physical Apple Store, but this feature appears to be only available in the US.

        • You can sign buy the subscription applecare+ after you buy the product and it gets charged from the apple account balance. The subscription is more expensive than buying up front but usually works out to be cheaper after the effective 10% from the giuft cards

          • +1

@EggsAndAvo: AppleCare+ is no longer charged from the account balance as of last year.

            • @kerfuffle: Ohhh damn thanks. I bought it just before that changed happened which is unfortunate because that means now I'm paying more over the next two years.

  • +8

Check the card numbers match before buying. Lots of card swapping going on.

    • +1

You can't check unless you break the sticker and open.

Best to buy and check after paying while still in store.

      • +3

Last time i bought some at Woolworths the guy at the self check out made me open them and check

        • Before paying? That's ideal, I gotta do that then. I always pay and open afterwards (and tell them I'm doing it) so I can raise the issue asap if any

        • I second this method, best to check prior to paying as the administration after the fact can be tiring as the store manager aren’t trained to resolve on the spot.

          • @wzk: Just make sure the sleeve serial number matches the gift card serial number.

            • @wzk: I think I saw somewhere saying scammers have a way to swap the inside card without making any trace on the exterior sleeve. Not sure how but I think more than one person confirmed it.

        • Yep can confirm Coles is now doing this too, at least at my local store. They are keeping all the higher value gift cards at the service desk, and the lady opened the gift cards to compare the numbers before handing both to me to activate at the counter. Guy at the counter said the scam going on is crazy, could be insider job because they previously had gift cards that arrived new unopened that had some issues too.

    • How does that work?

  • +1

Is this the first step of the few to get maximum discounts on apple products?

    • +1

First you'd want to buy a ShopBack supermarket gift card

      • Can use this GC to buy an Apple GC?

        • I've used the ShopBack Supermarket Gift card in Woolworths to buy a Netflix gift card and at Coles to buy an Ultimate Home gift card so I'd feel pretty confident that it will work for these Apple GCs.

  • Is 20x points better than 10% discount if you conver into velocity and sell as velocity points ?
    Example - 20k flybuys points - $100
But conver -20k points to 10k velocity and then sell 10k velocity points for -$130?

    • +1

Depending on how you use it. If you're going to convert it to VP and using it to for business class redemption, converting to VF is far better. Selling the point inherently involves risks of your account being banned but YMMV.

  • +6

Remember - you can’t use these cards for AppleCare+

  • Tempting holy trinity. AOC + Flybys discount + TRS….

    • literally doing this hahaha

    • Flybuy discount? It's not really a discount is it? You just get 10% worth of Flybuy points?

      • with flybuys you can buy many giftcards, so its basically a discount. you can even buy groceries with it. everyone needs toilet paper

        • everyone needs toilet paper

Some of the gift cards are plastic. Not recommended.

    • Im travelling in August and doing this for a new iPad. Only issue is you can only claim $900 for solo and if you don't declare over $1000 on arrival you run the risk coming back into Australia and paying the refund back.

  • Serious Question - Why do you post/credit Freepoints deals and they post/credit yours?

Why not just post your own?

    • +1

Why do you post/credit Freepoints deals and they post/credit yours?

We work together and it’s a way of thanking each other. At least I thank my sources unlike others…

      • Careful they'll dob on you

      • +1

Ok cool - was just wondering why. Thanks!

  • I’d this an eligible purchase with an Amex Qantas Express Ultimate?

Im thinking about getting a MacBook Air.

So ultimately I’d end up with
    - 100’000 Frequency Flyer points minimum
    - 20’000 Everyday Reward Points minimum (equivalent of $200 if used as the $10 discounts at Woolies)

    Is my math mathing?

Any other better way to do something like this?

Does anyone know what the math would be if I bought 5 x $500 cards?

    • +1

Everyday Rewards Points? You'll earn Flybuys points from this promo, which you can redeem at 2000 points = $10 redemption at Coles or you can convert them to Velocity points but since you're talking about a Qantas AmEx that feels like you'd be earning extra points in the wrong scheme.

      • My bad flybys not edr

Still just thinking shout what to combine to make the most of it

        • If you have platinum edge cc it's 3x points on supermarkets afaik

  • Make sure you don’t redeem the cards to your Apple account balance as there is no way to get it back on the gift card.

    • Why not?

  • +2

This is not really a discounted Apple Gift Card is it?

So for example, to get $500 worth of Apple Gift Cards, I would be paying $500 - it's just I then get $50 worth of Flybuy points?

    • Yes that is right

  • Does Woolworths usually match this after a Coles deal?

    • Not that heard of. But the frequencies of Woolworths and Coles have this deal are similar.

      • Thanks!

  • What denominations do the cards come in and do they tend to sell out quickly in store?

    • +1

What denominations do the cards come in

      $20, $30, $50, $100, $200, $20-$500 variable load.

do they tend to sell out quickly in store?

In my area, not usually. However, if a gift card deal coincides with a major hardware release (e.g. new MacBooks), I find the higher denomination gift cards tend to sell out, depending on how eager people in your area are.

      • Awesome thanks. Can you buy multiple $500 cards?

        • +1

This deal will award bonus points on the first $2500 worth of Apple gift cards during this deal. That means you can purchase 5x $500 Apple gift cards during this deal and earn the full bonus points.

If you try to purchase gift cards worth $1000 or more in one transaction, you will need to get additional approval from a service supervisor or duty/store manager.

I am planning to buy an iPhone soon and I want to take full advantage of this. Is there any guide you guys know I can follow? In terms of buying gifts cards from store, redeem into my account. Get iPhone from Apple Store or OfficeWorks(Heard it’s cheaper if they beat the price from Costco) then transfer points to velocity. What about shopback, any idea on that end? Much appreciate it!

    • I dont think you can use the apple GC at officeworks
if you can pay for the GCs with a card that accumulates points,
also if you're going overseas in the next 60 days you can try the tourist refund scheme

      • Oh yeah, you’re right. I think I got it. Buy up to $2,500 soft of Apple gift cards.(Because I am after the iPhone 15 pro max) and then redeem those GCs onto my account and it should automatically gives the bonus 20x points. And I can go to the Apple Store, ask for a price match. Then pay with my GCs. While on flybuys ends, I can convert those points into Velocity points? :O

        • im not sure if apple price matches unfortunately. if you can get access to the apple education store you can get a slight discount and use GCs there. or if you're happy with getting a refurbished model those are also discounted.

and yea best use of flybuys (and points in general) is getting flights

          • @discountdong: I have had them price match before. But perhaps I just got lucky.

  • Do you think you could buy these gift cards with flybuy dollars?

  • Does Coles allow to you to split the bill on Gift card purchases?
E.g., Split $100 payment to two $50 swipes.

Does HSBC 2% cash back work in this context? Thanks.

    • +1

Does Coles allow to you to split the bill on Gift card purchases?

Coles self checkouts will only let you do split payments on purchases of gift cards if you insert cash into the checkout first, then pay the remaining amount owed on one payment card (e.g. Visa, Mastercard, AMEX). You will not receive any change on the cash you insert. If you instead press on the Mixed Payments button on the checkout screen, you will trigger an error message.

Coles standard checkouts (i.e. the checkouts were a dedicated staff member scans and packs your groceries for you) can do split payments between multiple payment cards when you are purchasing gift cards. However, this is at the discretion of the checkout assistant, plus it relies on the checkout assistant actually knowing how to do this (and I once ran into a situation where a young Coles checkout assistant had no idea how to do split payments and spent a couple of minutes trying to figure it out).

Does HSBC 2% cash back work in this context?

It should, as long as you are doing contactless transactions and each transaction is $99.99 or less. However, keep in mind:

      • HSBC may block your card if you do too many contactless transactions in a short period of time, as that is an indication that your card may have been stolen and a random person is trying to use it.

      • HSBC reserves the right to stop paying you cashback if they determine you are "abusing the cashback offer" (and I have taken that from page 13 of their terms and conditions). To be fair though, you should be fine with doing4-5 contactless transactions in a short period of time.

      • +1

Sounds great. On the self-checkout machine, which of the following works?
Should I insert cash first, scan the gift card, and continue, or
should I scan the gift card first, then insert cash, and continue?
        Thx.

        • +1

You need to scan the Apple gift card first.

The first thing to do is to check whether the Apple gift card has been tampered with. Once you are satisfied the gift card is fine, scan the long barcode on the back of the packaging. If you scan the variable load denomination, you will need to specify the amount you want to load (between $20 and $500 inclusive).

Once you are ready to pay, go to the payment screen. Select cash and insert the exact amount of cash you want to spend. Once you are done, go back to the payment screen and select Card as the payment option.

Anyone tried using Coles gift cards to purchase?

    • Terms of website state " Gift cards can not be used to purchase other gift cards at Coles". This would suggest no good. I would love to know too if it is policed.Maybe the payment option will be rejected at checkout stage by the terminal.Anyone actually tried?

      • That’s what I want to know - whether if someone has actually tried.

But I ended up getting a negative vote from someone for asking.

  • Damm I just goggled I don't think I get Velocity SC on purchases of gift cards at Coles.

    • +1

Purchases of gift cards at Coles stopped counting towards earning Velocity status credits back in November 2021 (if I remember correctly). The terms pretty much always said that purchases of gift cards were not supposed to count, so this was a loophole that took a while for Flybuys and/or Velocity to close.

    • +1

Argh… I just bought $1k of Apple GC and only now understand why I got sweet nothing for it. I must have switched to Velocity in the last promo…. maybe next time…

      • I’m on the same boat with you… it’s my first time doing this. I end up buying $1000 worth of Apple gift card first and the counter said there’s a limit. No problem I went to another store and get another $1000 Apple gift cards and I thought wow I am gonna get lots of points…. And I just saw my account now.. lol I didn’t get the double points.. super confused. Got normal points. I can’t return those gift cards and I can use those Apple gift cards to buy my phone now sigh*

        • Contact flybuys directly, they may be able to help. Youll need to send a photo of the receipts and the offer from the catalogue.

        • +1

Same here! I bought 2.5k worth with variable cards and checked my points today. Only got 2500 points instead of 50k. I bought another 1.1k $ card today , will have a look tomorrow if it’s the same issue. Anyone else in the same boat??

          • @Blackchocobo: Oh man! Please let me know if you found a solution to this too please :)

            • @SourCream3000: I was on a call to flybuys and heard the automated voice say bonus points might take a few weeks to appear. Not sure if anyone who had purchased prior on the same bonus points have any input.

Anywho, I’ve sent an enquiry to flybuys help as well but it doesn’t give me a confirmation of submission. Let’s see how this pans out

            • @SourCream3000: Just an update. Got my remaining 47500 points today.

              • @Blackchocobo: I have sent an email too. Man they must deal with every body’s panic of no bonus points etc etc and I just checked my flybuys account. I got the bonus points :) thanks for your help also :)

  • Just a note. If you're spending more than $1000 total in gift cards, you need to do it with the service desk. Just be sure to get them to scan your flybuys card. You will also get a complimentary 'Are you being scammed buying Gift Cards' pamphlet.

  • +1

how long before points get awarded? I purchased this morning and I don't see the points in my flybuys

    • Also curious about this, as I don’t see the points from my purchase yesterday…

    • +1

I order on 15th arvo, got the standard points but not bonus point yet….

      • Same here, is that normal?

        • Got my points this morning guess it takes a few days now

    • It took two days to me. But I didn't get the bonus points. Just the standard amount

      • Did you end up getting the bonus points automatically, and how long did they take?

    • Update: I just got the points today

  • I bought $500 worth of gift cards on the first day of this promotion and I got only 500 points. Is that normal like I will get the bonus point later on or something went wrong?

    • Yes, it's normal. I waited a week or so last time.

  • The bonus points may not arrive at the same time as normal points according to Flybuy. The points are supposed to arrive in 72 hours. Let's wait and see.
