New Laptop Lightweight Yet Powerful - Budget $3000

Hi everyone, I'm currently in the market for a new laptop and looking for some advice on which particular laptop would be ideal.

I am going to be travelling regularly so the more practical the better. I need something that is light weight as the one I currently have is extremely heavy and has a charger which weighs a ton. I do use some programs at times such as CAD and Illustrator but this would be often nor will it be anything extremely extensive, I mainly take measurements and will be opting or software such as blue beam etc.

I would like to have touch screen capabilities and the option to connect to either a extremely wide screen or dual 27inch monitors, some decent battery life would be advantageous.

  What have you found so far? What is your budget? You have provided some very generic requirements that aren’t very helpful.

    currently looking at ASUS zenbook oled and surace pro 10/laptop 6, budget under $3000,

    I have also seen the apple macbooks but i have never used one so worried it will take to long to get used to

    I'm open to other makes and models, I don't game, works usually looking at plans and writing emails, creating spreadsheets etc.

  What do you currently use (and what specs)? And any specific accessories? There's plenty of ultraportables out there which offer decent performance with integrated graphics (doesn't look like you need dedicated graphics) and solid battery life, and of course Macbook Airs as well which might actually suit you well too except for the touchscreen. Depending on timeline, and how long you keep laptops for, maybe you might even be one to benefit from the transition to ARM laptops too.

  In short, need more info on what you need/value and budget as well.

    currently using a Lenovo thinkbook (3.30 ghz,amd ryzen5,16gb, 512gb, rtx and amd radeon)

      Can you be more specific as to what dedicated graphics you have and whether it's actually useful? Integrated graphics nowadays is surprisingly solid and more sparing on the battery so that might be an option for you if you don't really need dGPU.

      Are there any performance concerns with your current Lenovo or is it purely the weight which is leading you to change it?

        rtx 3060 currently, it works well

        im changing purely for weight as i travel often for work and on sites

    looked at the asus rog but upon review apparently the graphics card doesn't work well with illustrator which I tend to use often

      which ROG did you look at?

      I was going to suggest at the $3k mark you could get a 2024 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 with a 4050 which currently is available for around $2800. It's basically a Macbook Pro 14 competitor in terms of size/performance/etc.

      I personally have the 4060 model and am pretty happy.

      Note the 2023 and 2024 have similar specs but the 2024 has a much slimmer/lighter design with a nicer OLED screen. The 2023 is more powerful though since it was bigger and could be specced with a better discrete graphics card (but this would be both outside your budget and very overkill for what you're doing).

  Is there a top limit on weight? 2kg for a laptop is light to me but might not be for you.

  sub 2kg if possible, 13 or 14 inch screen would be ideal
