Porting out Coles to Boost Incorrect Name and Date of Birth with Coles Mobile

Long story short name and date of birth on my Coles mobile account is incorrect and my porting request from Boost to Coles fails because of date of birth mismatch.

Boost has an online verification at the time of activation I am unable to enter incorrect name and DOB whereas Coles Mobile does not. When I created my Coles account, I made a mistake by providing incorrect details (Deep Regret) and now I am unable to port out and Coles customer care is not willing to change my name and date of birth and it's calling it as Change of Ownership which they do not support and now I am stuck with them. I also tried calling Boost and the customer care mentioned that Coles has rejected my request.

Please advise what can be done here.

Thank you!

You might have to change your name and date of birth to match the Coles records :\

On the plus side, you won't have to worry about having your id leaked when coles mobile has a data breach

considering it was Optus underneath thats why i provided incorrect details :D

      • Silly thing to do.
        Now you are stuffed

        As they say…"user error"

"Please advise what can be done here"
    get a new number?
can be done, won't be fun
    .

  • Just call Coles mobile and get it fixed

    • tried calling them I am being told changing name and dob comes under Change of Ownership and they don't support it, advise i was given was to port to another provider that does not conduct id verification.

      • The problem is you enter your own information but Coles not willing to change it?

So meaning if anyone make mistake and they will lose the prepaid SIM? This doesn't seem reasonable.

        • That's exactly what I thought. The Coles process begins with signing up for the online portal and activating the SIM card and it looks like thats were i have entered incorrect information. When I ported out from Boost to Coles it went well there were no dramas and that time too my information was incorrect, but the rep said I entered the right information for the account that I wanted to transfer to Coles. However, when porting out of Coles to Boost, Coles rejects the information after validating it against a valid ID from Boost because the name/date of birth is incorrect.

          • @crazyguy: Obviously because names and DOB dont match

            You created this problem OP.

Porting to another mobile provider that doesnt do online checks wont help fix the problem in the long run.

Unless you switch to one that suppiorts change of ownership.
            Thats probably your best avenue.

Your options are: Aldi, Amaysim, Kogan

Not sure if these 3 do online checks, sorry.

            See here:

Probabably best to switch to Aldi or Amaysim on a PAYG plan or Kogan on a cheap monthly plan (providing they dont do online ID checks) , change ownership details to genuine ones, then port wherever you like!

Here is a link to a good Kogan deal @ $5 for the first month so same as PAYG sign up with Amaysim or Aldi
            https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-monthly-plan-vouch…
Activate by 11:59PM AEST on 30/06/2024

Otherwise, as others have suggested, its tme to get a new phone number.

Surely you could provide a stat dec or something to verify your name and dob and that would be sufficient

    • no info provided by Coles Mob customer service

  • Sounds like you're stuck with Coles then.

  • Can you pm me your number, and I’ll see what I can do? Work at Telstra (Boost), and might be able to get someone to look into it

    • @87percent: i have PM'd please check. Thanks for your help!

Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria can help you with the name change….

Sorry, can't help you changing the date of birth though…

So…how did you mess up both your own name and DOB?

  • I had the same problem last year.
I gave a fake DOB to my first mobile provider over 20 years ago when no proof of ID was required.
I couldn’t port out of Boost cos I failed the ID verification match with the new provider.
I already had an active MyTelstra login from a disconnected nbn service with my correct DOB and all other details including mobile in the account info.
The Telstra account had a different customer number to my Boost account.
It’s a long story but I got a new Boost SIM and got my Boost account put on the same customer number as my existing Telstra account (even though I had no other active Telstra services).
After that happened the correct DOB became associated with the mobile number and problem was solved.

  • I had Woolworths do the same thing, and I used a Vodafone sim to change it. When I activated the Vodafone Sim I just used the correct details, no flags came up and was sorted in 5 minutes.

    • @KateW Thank you! I will try with Vodafone.

  • I had a similar issue. I just called Boost to cancel my port out and waited until that is processed. Then tried again with the same name listed on the original provider. After I have successfully ported to Boost, I submitted a change of ownership request to the correct name by supplying ID.

    • Thank you! Yes I followed your recommendation my port is now successful to Boost I will check and submit change of ownership to fix name and DOB.
