If I recalled correctly, the Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD currently has issues with randomly wiping data.

      thanks, you saved me.

      • Me too. Was going to jump on this deal. Thankful for the OzBargain comments!

    • You couldn't really come up with a more potentially serious fault, apart for totally wiping data.

I imagine at first, people were thinking it was something they were doing themselves, as having data disappear randomly is a very unusual fault.

Hard to recommend this drive with the widespread reports of failure from many publications (after their initial supposed fix) and SanDisk's response which was basically to try and ignore the problem until there was too much media attention for them to continue doing so.

  • Wouldn’t it be cheaper to get a gumstick SSD and put into an enclosure?

These things fail more than North Korean missiles.

There’s a reason these things are cheap - they’re a well known dud and WD is trying to get rid of them.

And WD is refusing to answer for their dodgy behaviour too: https://www.theverge.com/23837513/western-digital-sandisk-ss…

There’s lawsuits in the US, but that won’t help any of us that buy one of these lemons.
