  • Ooh I’ve been looking for one of these. Not a huge fan of the branding on it but I guess you just slap a knife over it.

    • Thanks for that, these were available for pickup for me.

    • I got one, thx

It was very crunchy and had a strange flavour, not sure I'd get another

    • +1

      Got one, cheers legend

Strong recommend in general for a magnetic knife wall rack. 40cm is a good size. Makes it way easier to use knives for cooking and they are less likely to get damaged.

  • Got two. Mucho thankies OP!

  • Got an acacia - not sure 40cm a going to hold many, but worth a go

  • +2

    Dont need it. Want it.

  • +1

Bought one of these last year. Highly recommend. Looks great. Don’t notice the branding, and it’s covered up anyway. From memory I had to slightly bend the rear fittings with some pliers to make it flush against the wall, but other than that very solid.

  • +2

Does it come with a 3M/sticker or is screw only?

    • +4

      Wall plugs and screws included

  • +1

Is it safe for cat owners? My cat has broken a few cups on my kitchen benchtop…

    • +1

      Keen to know as well!

    • +6

Were the cups held down with magnets?

    • +1

probably not unless you mount it high enough the cat can't touch the exposed blades

    • Id be scared of them jumping up into it or down past it

    • Should be - it's stuck against the wall and cats don't usually play with knives on the wall, just hit loose objects on the top.

    • If its anything like the ones we use at work i wouldn't recommend it
Its strong but nothing a cat wouldn't be able to knock the knives off

    • Safe for the owners. Not so much for the cat.

  • Got two. Plan to use with 3M tape. Thank you so much.

Any particular reason not to just get the 56cm from IKEA for $25?

    • +2

Because you might want the wood finish which IKEA doesn't have

    • +10

      $17.99 is less than $25

      56cm is too long
      Ikea not near buyer
Don't want stainless finish. (Chef X Acacia option)

huh is this something that was previously available but no longer?

        • No idea, it’s an email I received at some point, so activated it for this purchase.

        That bully!

  • Ordered 2 of them Thanks 🥰

  • Thanks OP
Giving this a try to free up from precious countertop space! :-)

I can’t imagine how these would be good for knifes

    • I can’t imagine how these would be bad for knifes

      • Taking the knives on and off a metal magnet? Seems it would inevitably damage/blunt them. I guess perhaps not since these exist and people buy them. Just feels wrong.

        • +1

Maybe if you are not careful and push the sharp edge in to the magnet.

        • +1

I'm pretty sure the metal ones cause superficial damage, scratches on the flat face of the knife but less likely to damage the edge itself. Still, I would definitely recommend the wooden version of this (linked in comments above) over the metal one

        • Taking the knives on and off a metal magnet?

You put the side of the knife against the magnet, not the blade.

The side of the knife isn't blunt so you'll be fine.

Security risk. Better to keep knives in a cupboard or a draw. First thing intruders do is find the kitchen and grab a knife.

    • +6

And they'll never think to look in a drawer

      • +4

If criminals are too dumb to find my wallet in my shoe at the beach they’re not gonna find my knives in a drawer

        • The secret is to push it right down to the toe. The other secret is not to forget it's in there since you'll probably cut yourself when you put your shoe back on.

    • +6

This is also why I keep my giant purple dildo on a draw; last thing I need is an intruder grabbing it off the dildo hanger and chasing me around bashing my head in Saint's Row: The Third style.

    • I thought they usually BYO gun

  • Was looking to get a few similar ones for the tool workbench to hold up screwdrivers, Allen keys, bike tools, etc. whilst these are for kitchen, anyone who has one got a sense for how strong the magnet is. Would it hold a pair of pliers?

    • +2

I have this at home and to be honest I don't think it would be great for tools where the tool itself is fairly thin (screwdriver for example). If you can be bothered, I think you would have better luck making one, using some neodymium magnets off AliExpress and some offcuts of wood

      • +5

Yeah I was scouring AliExpress earlier today. I just spotted these which seem well priced and good reviews and for my intended purpose so might see if I can put an order in. Thanks for reply

        • +3

Yep. I have these. They're great. I even dump things like my chisels, pliers and adjustable wrench on them without much of an issue.

          • @Name: That's great to hear. I've been waiting to buy one which actually works (bought 2)

  • +1

I highly recommend a wooden version of this if you have nice knives that you don't want to scratch up.

    • +1

Or just a strip of tape over it.

      • +1

That will do, it will just be kinda ugly and the acacia version is available for the same price

        • +1

oh, didn't notice there was a wood version in op. plan to use them in the garage though, so no knives will be harmed.

  • Thanks OP

  • There is a Feng Shui consideration for those that believe but didnt think about :) apparently negative qi energy ti have exposed knives

How many decimal places can you recite negative qi to?

I picked mine up today, I got the Acacia, the Stainless and the Bamboo Stand - https://www.myer.com.au/p/chefx-universal-bambo-magnetic-kni…

The Acacia unit is taller than the stainless version.
The Acacia unit is useless for blades with a hammered finish, my Yaxell Zen 20cm Chefs knife just slides right off it. It is a little better on the stainless unit, but could be better, and I don't want stainless surface for this knife.

The Bamboo stand works fine for it as the knife's heel acts as a stopping point at the top of the stand.

  • Have a glass wall in the kitchen, any recommendations for tape installation? Which tape is strong enough to hold it while removable in the future?
    Thx

    • +1

When mine arrives, I plan to use this https://www.bunnings.com.au/permastik-5m-x-24mm-clear-outdoo…
It's about 2mm thick, soft and very sticky. I've used it for a few jobs around the house, inside and out, and it seems to work very well. It's like the stuff they used to hold CDs on to magazines (remember those days?) or credit cards onto letters.

  • I picked up mine and have screwed it into wood and followed the instructions and it has quite a wobble to it. Doesn't sit flush with the wall and moves when putting knives on and taking them off. Anyone else have this same problem or a solution to stop the wobble?

Instructions say leave around 6mm of screw head free but it seems like a lot

  • Mine mounted well (just used 3m stickers) but I dont find the magnet on the acacia one particularly strong - no knives have falled yet, but they slip down until they touch the handle part.
