    Well done Labor WA !

      Well done Labor WA !

Indeed. Cost of living increases are driven by too much money in the system, and the Labor approach is to then go inject more money into the system.

      It's like a comedy skit…

        • BEc(Hons) Youtube U.

I see you couldn't counter anything I said. Labor patsy logic in action…

  • Thanks op

  • Free public transport of weekends does makes sense, provides a much needed boost to the struggling local business in the CBD. VIC should follow.

    • How will VIC follow, we dead broke, we can literally only hand out $400 to primary school kids, and even that was a massive stretch on the budget.

      • Isn't it secondary also? Having said that, if I've heard the policy correctly it's quite pointless for many. How many people need to buy uniforms beyond first year of starting primary or secondary? So many schools don't do camps beyond year 7 and excursions arely fo beyond $100/year. How about letting people pay for their fees or school books with it? Now that would actually help people out.

  • Where is VIC credit?

    • Vic are in Deficit!

Whereas WA & QLD have surpluses… From sale of resources.
And had large electricity rebates for years.

      • +2

        more about management.

WA had the liberals running it for quite a few years, the same resources and yet it was mismanaged and they got voted out leaving a 5.6 billion dollar debt.

Just avoid the fact that WA is severely overpopulated, public sector underpaid and health sector in a world of pain…

      WA is severely overpopulated

Lol! 1.14 persons per square km

(I know, you mean Perth area.)

      • +2

        *Relative to housing supply.

        • -2

That is an accommodation shortage, not "severely overpopulated" as you claimed!

Often buildings, houses & apartments sit empty or underutilised while people need to sleep in vehicles & tents.

On average less people are living in same space than before, resulting in more of a shortage.

Plus rents & housing prices have risen dramatically.

Been an issue in many areas for decades.
Definitely not a problem limited to just WA!

Id rather just the tax cut - ie, rather than paying 500 dollars to get 400 dollars in benifits and 100 dollars in administrative costs.

    • -2

Where do people think the money is coming from to fund these scams… i mean schemes?

      • State Surpluses!
        From royalties on resource exports.

eg Qld has $1000 rebate, from $14B surplus💰

        Vic has a deficit😞

        • -1

That's awesome, I didn't realise people paid no tax at all in WA!

(IE you can still reduce taxes, just don't collect as much from people - as your already collecting it from the "royalties on resource exports", either way your robbing Peter to pay Paul… and administrative costs…. at a minimum.)

    • +2

Well Melbourne, this is a WA matter.

      But Gina Rinehart would agree🤔

Tax cuts are great for those who pay lots of WA State Tax.

What WA State Tax do you pay, to have a WA "tax cut"??

(NOT income or business tax as you might be thinking. States don't control Federal Taxes!)

But, those most in need don't usually pay any WA State Tax!!
      So would get nothing!!

As this scheme is available to all households in WA, not means tested, it requires very little administration. So lowest cost.

Payment through tax system would be much more expensive!! And miss those most in need.

A reduction in electricity cost for all is most equitable.

      Maybe think next time🤔

      • Did Gina also buy her life membership to them Laurie Potter Health Clubs?

Oh, don't worry, I've thought about it long and hard.

but what is all boils down to, and what your basically saying is, it's ok to steal money from workers (because let's face it, you don't give people a choice to give their own money they earned without taking a cut) to pay other people who potentially didn't. (and give the government a cut of that as well.)

Taking from someone without the option to decline is stealing, but that's a whole other topic.

I believe people have a duty to help the less fortunate but it should never be forced.

Id rather volunteer to donate my hard earned cash, to those in need, rather that it be taken, and money given to the government, that way, at least all of it goes to the intended person, who I know truly needs it.

But again, it's just a major disagreement in life principals, I don't believe in stealing from people - even if you think the money is going to those who may need it is right.

I've thought about it long and hard.

          But still so ignorant🤔

You ignore the difference between State taxes & royalties vs Commonwealth income / business tax.

As I asked you, but you completely ignored…
What WA State Tax do you pay, to have a WA "tax cut"?
          in Melbourne??

Id rather volunteer to donate my hard earned cash, to those in need

With these rants about tax, we don't believe that!

Pauline Hanson once said we should pay no tax. Her policy was for Australia to borrow all we need (& presumably never pay off our debt)…
Even she admitted that was crazy thinking😜

Everyone would like to pay less income tax, but your idea is like hers - failed.

Take your political manifesto to Forum or Redit & see if you have more luck than Pauline😜

Wake me up when you've completely reformed the State & Commonwealth tax systems😴

  • Stop getting jealous wingers. Just admit WA is the pillar of the nation. Peace 👌

    • Qld gets $1000 electricity rebate.
      WA only $400.
      Whose jealous?

      • Whose jealous?

        There jealous.

Met my wife in Perth when she was 21.
Bus drivers generally sold her the under 14 year old student tickets. She just shut up and paid to their demands.
Bit of racism can we call that a positive?

    • wtf?

      • that was excatly she was saying
now it will be free while the East coast runs from the Canadian pension fund.

        • I want to know how your brain works.

          • @Drakesy: WA is history for me. Many things are missed. QLD has just become a bogan refuge. Coal rules this place. Anything harder is just too hard for the folks here.

  • The GST carve out that WA gets us a disgrace.

    • Too high or too low?

      • +3

        Too high or too low?

Don't ask questions, just get angry about it!

      • -1

Not just too high, but way too high.

The WA state government get to keep billions more in mining royalties (as in more than $10 billion every year) that other states can't generate, simply because they don't have the natural resources & it's GST-free income thanks to the Labor federal govt cutting a sweetheart deal with them to keep the state-based Labor in power. So now the rest of the country get a smaller share of the GST, despite other states generating more taxes and revenue for the federal government.

No one would have an issue with it, if it weren't for the fact that the WA state government basically lives off of corporate welfare supported by the federal Labor government.

        • The WA state government get to keep billions more in mining royalties (as in more than $10 billion every year) that other states can't generate,

So instead they should get to subsidise states without their own resources yet miss out on federal funding for massive projects?
The eastern states gets an order of magnitude more of government funding than WA.

Perth has 10% of the population of Australia yet has to support 90% of it.

At what stage do you stop penalising the generator of the income to prop up those that don't. I can assure you if the iron ore industry died NSW or Victoria won't be extending a lifeline to WA.

    • +1

Everyone is free to live in WA and get more GST carve out 😀 WA currently gives 30% of their GST away to charity case states.
Ideally each state should keep their own GST and not share it.

      • -2

WA doesn't have to pay any tax on the $10 Billion+ they earn each year from mining royalties, mined out of federal land. That's 30% of the annual GDP of most other states & they don't pay a cent on tax back to the federal government from it.

They shouldn't receive any GST at all if their going to be able to do that, while no other state can.

        • +1

What's the tax status of mining and resources companies extracting resources in other states? Is it different to WA?

        • +1

Other states are free to do the same on federal land within their state.

          • -1

@Wasabi Ninja: A number of other states don't even have the minerals to be mined & those that do get taxed.

            • -1

@infinite: They have other strengths. Like the Sydney opera house and Sydney harbour bridge is a big tourism draw.
You sound like a jealous child which is beneath you mate.

  • This shouldn't apply to every household. Governments are poor at budgeting most of the time.

    • It should and it does. Been happening for years.

    • Means testing would inevitably require information about household income. Specific, targeted information like that would require ATO involvement or similar. Far easier (and, importantly, cheaper) to just give $400 to Synergy and Horizon to credit to each domestic customer's account.

  • Why don't they just cap the price of electricity?

    • The old give with one hand, take with the other.
They’ve also increased the feed in tariff to counter the loss of revenue from people having rooftop solar.

  • Power to the people !!!!
    Electricity Matters !
