i would just live with it because im lazy like that - but if you want you can follow this guide (will need a bunch of materials), the scuffs dont look TOO deep based on photo.

    • Thanks so much!

    • OP should try using a cutting cream or cutting compound first.
Whilst these wont remove the deepest scratches, they will significanly improve the appearance to the point it might not be worthwhile doing a full repair - which can end up looking much worse!

Ultra budget: black texta or nail polish.

Just don't want to admit a sideswipe?

    • I admit it looks like one but it wasn’t me I swear on my life and my children - I came back to this and I wasn’t sure what could have been the cause. I was quite puzzled too and expected this comment tbh because it looks like a side swipe

It looks like it, where was it parked? Looks like someone has come in very close.

        • On a street between cars on the straight so I assume someone has done a converse of a side swipe to me

          • @Sasuk3: Yeah probably. Either hasn't realised or they did and done a runner.

Maybe do a little run around and see if there is CCTV? Try and get the rego and do an insurance claim.

That doesn't look like it's from another car, more like something flat and hard, like a concrete bollard or wall, and these things usually don't move on their own ;)

Yes, that's not another car bumper, that's something rough, hard and static. Who else drives the car?

    • No, OP parked (reversed) the car safely, it was just a concrete bollard that happened to move along the car. These things are common in underground car parks.

    • Came here to say this. Looks like my father in laws bumper who scrapes his rendered brick wall into his garage on occasion.

OPs bumper has scraped pretty hard and returned to its original shape. It's even scraped over the natural fold line in the bumper design.

Hi all, no one else drives this car, and I know how it looks (scraped a pillar 15 years ago when I was younger and it looks very similar) but I genuinely didn’t scrape against anything static i can’t explain it but I appreciate and understand the skepticism

Black coloured polish, it'll take off the paint transfer and fill in the scrapes. Won't look 100% but it'll be mostly black.

    • Great suggestion but I think the damage is beyond that.

Well OP said 'budget to make it look better', not unlimited budget to make it goodwood concourse ready.

        • wait until selling it to use it…..
          .

  • Thank you Brian I appreciate it will give this a shot!

Getting someone to touch up that portion of the front bumper bar should be a couple hundred. Your biggest headache is the leading edge of the front fender. All the pigment/paint is gone, probably down to primer or even further.

Just leave it till the next accident and delete this pic ASAP.

  • OP, I suggest you don't apply any paint before you do a thorough polish first with polishing paste. Polishing will remove paint transfer and you will be able to see the exact extent of the damage. You may be able to live with it. Touching up a scratch mark like that will likely make it look worse. Or take it to the panel beaters. My guess is $500 to respray and blend the damaged section.

    • @loropy9 you must have some cheap repairers near you. I have similar damage on my rear bar after someone tried to squeeze past (their time was obviously too valuable to wait) and quoted around $1,000 as they have to remove the bar to repair and respray.

      • You are probably right. I had similar damage and was quoted $500 a few years ago.

if you are a DIY person there are heaps of YOUTUBES on fixing this, spend 2 hours watching several, less than $100 in parts, 2-4 hours work and the outcome will be dependent on your skill :-)

  • Go to Facebook Marketplace, find your model and colour from a wrecker. Purchase the bumper, probably can be had for under $200. Then DIY fit it yourself.

My first thoughts were a square concrete support post in a underground car park (shopping center).

Possibly it didnt just happen and you just didnt notice?

The other thought was a small delivery van with straighter sides.

  • There is a product I have successfully used on a white car called 'Detailing Clay' . You ert it and rubb hard and it smooths out the scratches.
It's available at repco. I got mine cheap on ebay.

Is that really what its for? I thought clay bar was for removing contaminants from paint.

      • Those "scratches" could just be paint transfer, which is why a clay bar is able to clean it up.
