Further price drops from Fiji Airways! As these flights go via Nadi, it's also possible with the right stopover to have a break there too, even if it's just in a pool for a few hours.

Some dates it's even possible to get cheaper with China Southern from $898 Return but that's a LONG journey with 21 hours in a plane, let alone transit times.

      Fiji Airways don't fly to Perth. They can't offer you a deal on a product they don't offer.

          The Perth market is pretty small for airlines to enter due to the small population and lack of local connections and focused consumer demand for Perth is Europe and Asia which is already serviced with plenty of services to Denpasar, Jakarta, Singapore, KL, Japan, Hong Kong and Bangkok - Qantas is servicing London Heathrow, Paris and Rome this year from Perth. However most of these service range from daily to 2 times per week which allows airlines to fill the aircraft and hence the higher prices $$$, load factors on JQ from Perth Internationally is in excess of 90% off peak and 95%+ on peak (School Holidays)

          North America demand is low as it is due to the horrible exchange rate, in comparison to 2012 where the AUD tied for the USD. Jetstar had 3 daily services from Australia and a daily from New Zealand to Honolulu. And Qantas shuttling 2 A380s and 3 747s a day to Los Angeles + 1 747 to San Francisco + 1 A380 to DFW a day. Australian consumers are interested in the existing S.E Asia Market, Japan and Europe according to ABS traffic data.

          The eastern seaboard can service a smaller airline who can afford/has the calculated demand into the prime city of choice (eg. Brisbane) and have codeshares with ZL, QF or VA and allow passengers to connect from ADL, HBA, MEL, CBR, SYD, CNS ect

          Due to the absolute astronomical pricing of transcontinental flights and high load factors, airlines wont bother in adding connections to Perth as carriers.

    I think Qantas is having a deal to LA for 1.2k-1.3k for those who prefer a direct flight and want to fly Qantas. Also comes with 30kg luggage standard

      Depends on the Australian departure port, yes in some cases its the B38M but in other cases you can get the A332 or A359
      Its a safe, certified aircraft now - ive flown on it on many occasions and its fine

    My last time exp is that flight from LA to Nadi was ok, fairly new Boeing. The one from Nadi to Mel was old and terrible, A330, it was obviously Cathay's previous aircraft based on some un-removed signage.

    Pro - price, gets you from A to B
    Con - Nadi airport isn’t gr8, they stop serving ANY food when it’s mildly bumpy. Cabin service takes donkey years to finish. Food on the flights weren’t gr8

      Interesting, I am litterally in the US now and took Fiji. We thought it was great

      • nadi ap has everything you need for short layover inc a quiet room downstairs
      • planes were new both legs
      • cabin service and staff friendliness was efficient and food was best weve had on planes in a decade
      • the split flight lets you sit down for dinner pre 10h leg to US, stretch your legs etc. We arrived better than any qantas trek weve ever done to the US

            did not have check-in luggage included the ticket prices
            (but only hand luggage was included).

    Note you cannot bring duty free alcohol through Nadi transit. Australian customs apparently does not accept their transit arrangements, so duty free bought in the USA is tipped out as it exceeds the cabin liquids allowance.
    You can buy duty free in Nadi, handed to you as you board the plane.
    RIP the fancy local mezcal we tried to bring home.

      I can’t remember the last time I bought duty free grog from the US. Everything seemed cheaper in their bottle shops. This is going back to the parity days, and years that followed. I just wrapped some clothes around the bottles and put them in checked luggage.
      Sure I still abided by the import limits for tax, so I could check that box on the immigration card with an innocent conscience.
      That said, any trip through Fiji is not complete without the acquisition of a bottle/s of their overproof Bounty rum (ideally from a local store, not at inflated airport prices).
