Best Phone for Taking Photos

I need the best phone for taking photos (under 1000$).
Is samsung S23 able to give real good pics?
I cannot carry a separate camera for taking pictures (unless its as thin as a phone), but can carry a separate phone.

Its for clicking - people and events and programs.
I dont want to spend heaps on the top-notch iPhone when the same or better photo can be taken using samsung average or little better than average phone.

We are an iphone and Apple family … so no way am i going to use it as a replacement of my phone.

Which iPhone do you have for comparison?
What sort of photos? Indoor, portrait, landscape etc

Any reason it can't be the same device?

Based on your requirements, sell your current phone and upgrade to the best iPhone you can afford.

So you're saying your current iPhone isn't good?

    • yeah it isnt. it is iphone xs

For nature photos, I think the s24’s take nice pics
For pictures of people, I think the iPhones take better photos

Thats a question for google, otherwise my phone is the best 👌

    • Of course Google is going to say Pixel is the best choice.

      • Yes but Marques says it's the iPhone 15 and he is always SO right he crumbles start-ups with his reviews LoL

Seriously though for under $1000 the Pixel 8a is a wise choice.

I still like a lot of other suggestions though if you're tied to apple (my condolensces) sell what you got and grab the 15.

nah i personally take a professional photographer with me where ever i go. Dont everyone do that when they want photos?

i though i was with like people here.

Really seems like you should just sell your current iphone and put that 1k extra towards a iphone pro max or similar.

Go down the list until you find a phone that suits your budget

Personally I think any late model iPhone or Samsung take bloody good photos. It depends what you want to do with them. If you're just viewing them on your PC then anything from the iPhone X onwards IMO takes great pictures. Of course if you're wanting to print them and put them on the wall, maybe a different story.

    • have xs and its awful

      • I had an X (very good pics), and upgraded to a 15 Pro Max which takes brilliant photos.

I'm watching this discussion… desperately need a new phone before they turn off 3G and my Moto G6 becomes an xmas decoration. plus I sell jewellery, and it's hard getting a decent photo out of that phone. Waiting for the Pixel 7a to come down in price but that's frustrating. (I'm cheap and hate i-anything). So I'm off to check those Samsung recommendations.

Lots of custom a.i/filters in phone software can really skew what is a 'decent' photo.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/uGX6Cqva7yow376W9 - this is using my motorola g84, no filter settings. Happy with the g84, highly recommend as a cheap phone.

      • I am not sure if you are aware but this link reveals your registered Google account name too

      • I'll check that Motorola out, thanks. Realised the Samsungs all have a non-budget price tag! eeek. I've been happy with my litte G6, it was $160 on Amazon and everything has worked well since 2019 when I got it, but yes, it has in-camera software and the sharpening is a bit intrusive, I'd rather choose to do that or not myself. Getting colours right is crucial with jewellery, and the phone and I grapple when it wants to make everything dark and dull. There are fights.

I'll go check out the reviews. The pixel 7a is well and truly superceded now, yet they are stubbournly keeping it at the release price which is too much for a camera with such a terrible battery.

  • Troll post. Asks question, no responses since.

    • No its not a Troll. Its a genuine query.

    • based on the replies i had already edited my original post to add the details asked for…
and am going through the answers/ model mentioned herein

Google Pixel is the best point and shoot camera phone for photo's in the game.

    • +2

I've both Pixel and iPhone. Pixel photos are more colourful and better quality. iPhone photos look bright bit but not very natural.

      • +1

Could it be the screen? Have you seen a photo taken from the same angle using both phones and review it on a third screen like a laptop to compare?

I understand Apple also downgrades the photo on transfer because by default it uses some proprietary format.

Yo OP. You absolutely lost me at 'We are an iphone and Apple family.

You are already evidently reconsidering that to an extent. I dare you to 'diversify in other areas' (or better, just ditch all your exy/exclusionist apple stuff and cross over).

    You won't look back.

    • Apple exists solely as a status symbol for the middle class; the Louis Vuitton of phones. There's nothing more shallow.

If you want the best camera phone:

Best day time: Xiaomi ultra 14 ultra ($1500 on ali).

Best night time: Vivo x100 pro ($1000-$1200 on ali).

Here are some photo samples by the phones:

    Photos: Xiaomi ultra
    Photos: Vivo x100 pro
    Photos: iphone 15 max

    • Didn't he say UNDER $1000?

      • +1

You can buy the Vivo X100 for $977. I bought mine for $800 using coupons.

My Samsung A71 takes great pics, and a single charge lasts a long time. I bought it because at the time it had the highest-resolution macro cam of any phone, and I take a lot of macro shots. It takes really nice non-macro pics too though, and it is good in low-light conditions. Unlike an 'Apple brand' charging cord, or an 'Apple brand' phone case, which cost around a million dollars, you can buy a Samsung A71 phone 2nd hand for less than $250 AUD.

PS; I double dare you to ditch all you Apple sh*t.

Grab a Pixel 8 when it's on sale/gift cards etc.

  • +2

My experience pixel 7a is pretty decent if you don't want to spend a heap but with the pixel 8 deals at the moment. Worth looking into
