Flights to Germany (Early Sep to Early Oct)

I had been hoping for flights to come down from their ridiculous high prices since Covid but it's getting close to September now and it seems they've gone even higher. Need to book for 2 adults and 2 kids under 12. Saw the cheap 60h one-way trips with China Airlines but prefer a single stop-over to Frankfurt or Dusseldorf.

Thinking perhaps it's cheaper to book one-way flights with a 1-2 days proper stop-over somewhere or perhaps fly into Amsterdam or cities close to Dusseldorf and last mile with rental car or so.

What are your bargainer thoughts or insights whether to keep waiting a little longer hoping for prices to come down or just bite the bullet and book now for like $2300 return per person?

My advice would be to use google flights or skyscanner to check prices. I included some good guides. And then book directly with the airline.

    • Thanks mate. Definitely good guides, unfortunately nothing I haven't been doing already in there though.

  • Cathay Pacific Bris Frankfurt $2063 4/9-2/10
Take kids to Disney during the layover.

    • I agree with this.

Within a couple of days either side on both ends, Cathay is the best price for Frankfurt. The cost saving to Amsterdam isn't worth the hassle.

Even flying out of Sydney at the same time, the only savings to be made are by dropping airline tiers. Personally, I wouldn't want to do that with children on such a long haul flight.

      • yeah, agree 100%. Looks like Cathay will add a 2nd stop in either Sydney or Melbourne unfortunately too.

        • Cathay flies 6 days a week from Brisbane to Hong Kong. I think not on a Thursday.
Use google flights, skyscanner was good 15 years ago but isn’t impartial anymore due to ownership.

    • Thanks mate. Will have a closer look at Cathay. Wish they flew directly from Brisbane though. Every additional stopover with kids is a drag even within Australia.

  • Swiss is owned by Lufthansa and generally returned much lower fees than their parent company. Book direct and keep app alive.
Etihad at times provides bang for buck.

taiwan is fun. get a taxi in to town. have breakfast. go to a kids fun park. a little shopping. have some lunch . take some photos., back to the airport with 5 hours to s[are. have dinner. and just chill.

there could be other euro cities closer. but that looks pretty good. and a 5 hour drive is nothing.

Oktoberfest is in the middle of those dates, no surprise they are high. As the person above suggested I would be looking at a city in a different country.

  • Anywhere to Europe is much cheaper from kuala Lampur..but you'll probably need to book 2 separate flights..one from Australia to Kuala Lampur and Kuala Lumpur to Europe, but overall should cost you around $2k - $2.5k pp.
