What Does "Unused iPhone" Mean?

Looking at a iPhone on mresell.com.au
iPhone unused for sale.

I'm guessing it's an open boxed phone, that they will probably claim has never been used.
If it has been factory reset, how would I even know?

  • can you advertise a open box as "unused" or would it have to be sealed and never opened?

EB games would consider a 7 day change of mind return as unused.

      • even if it was open and clearly had been used for a week? or if it was returned unopened?

If it was brand new factory sealed it probably would've said that.

I would never buy a second hand phone personally.
Plenty of brand new budget options out there.

    • If you want iPhone it's a good option. I've had a few second hand iPhones from a variety of sources.

You can check battery health when it arrives.

If you can get the serial number if it has never been used the warranty period will not have started…

The listing says there's no Apple warranty.

If you buy it, you should go into it expecting an open box (or perhaps even no box at all). Anything better I'd consider a bonus.

Actually I'd be much more inclined to buy refurbished directly from Apple, for $699 with free delivery. You're paying less and you know exactly what you're getting into.

Apple does not sell refurbished iPhones here in Australia. The link you provided is for the US, hence the $699 price tag.

        • Ha! Cheers for the correction. I've admonished myself for the amateur mistake, won't happen again.
