Good deal, I'd almost bite but my X3 NFC is still going strong.

    • is it on android 12 still?

      • Yeah Android 12 I think but got upgraded to MIUI 14 a few weeks back.

        • How is MIUI these days? My last Xiaomi was Redmi 3 and I wasn't a fan of the OS.

@iChopstick: It's great honestly. Older Android phones used to be really rough, especially the Chinese ones. Now they're all fairly similar these days.

I'm running the xiaomi.eu custom rom (it's just normal MIUI with a few tweaks here and there) and it all works really smoothly. No complaints.

            • @mangobango: Sounds promising, cheers.

            • @mangobango: So the eu ROM is decent?
I got a poco F3 that I just flashed back to stock miui after being on Pixel Experience+ which lost its developer. It had few issues where banking apps/google wallet wouldn't work for tap and pay. Came up with a security warning. I read on xda a few of the other roms had same issue but I think they've got that sorted. Also had no volte/vowifi but again I think that might be all custom roms?

              • @Whatisthatvelvet: I was on ArrowOS for a while and changed back for the same reason. Woke up one day and google decided my phone didn't have the security requirements for Google pay!

The xiaomi.eu custom rom works really well, it's stock minus a lot of the bloat and feels a bit smoother and too. Plus you get some other benefits like the Mi Dialler and the Xiaomi home launcher etc from the Mi devices, rather than the poco stuff which works quite well.

                • @mangobango: Have read good things about the eu rom. I might have to try that soon.

Does the banking/google wallet work now with EU? And how about volte/vowifi?

                  TIA

@Whatisthatvelvet: Yeah Google pay and banking all works without dramas.

VoLTE works with Optus/Coles, didn't work with Boost for me but not sure if any others will work.

VoWiFi the option is enabled but I'm not sure if it ever activates, I think I selected "prioritise wifi calling" in the settings but seems to always go with VoLTE at home for some reason.

                  • +2

@Whatisthatvelvet: VoLTE and VoWiFi work on my F3 with the Miui.eu ROM.

I had to do some special code to disable the checks that stop the Vo options, but it's been solid for over a year now.

VoLTE didn't work initially for me but that was an Optus problem - they had to enable it on my account first.

                    Banking and wallets work great.

MIUI.eu is just the stock MIUI rom with tweaks, so it's "official", and has access to all the same things and underlying APIs that AOSP and other custom roms don't have, so, for instance, the stock camera app works with the full resolution in MIUI.eu, but on AOSP it doesn't.

X3 NFC might have been the best value for money phone ever.

I only upgraded from it to the F4 due to the camera being so poor.

However, the 2 year old battery on the X3 was still better than the battery on the brand new F4…I miss getting 2 days of use without a recharge.

      • +1

Yeah the battery is really great, I don't think I could go back to another brand phone that barely gets through the day.

Though the F4 does have considerably more power. I'd want to get one purely for emulation.

  • Got the pixel 6a just recently. Eh, this is better spec by what looks a good margin too, oh well.

    • Better spec in what way, I'm sure you're not referring to security updates, firmware and the camera/software. I read the review and that's as far as I'll go. If you replace your phone once a year I'd probably say take your chance but if you're like me keeping the phone for at least 3 years then you've made the right choice. Heck, I'm still happy with my 4a 5G.

      • +1

        Didn't neg you btw.

I know your angle, and I agree, it's a google phone, however tech specs are lower than this, even though I paid the same price. It'll last a good many years, security until 2027(8?) I believe. So unless toddler hulk smashes it'll be fine. Got it for the camera anyway, best camera under $500 atm I believe.

      • I wanted to upgrade to the 6a 5G and would have in a heartbeat if Google didn't limit the number of Photos you can upload starting with the 6 series.

  • Absolutely desperate for a new phone have an old motorola G7 from 2019 that the battery has been absolutely cooked. I have been looking out for a good deal on the Pixel 6 range but the Poco seems pretty decent as well. Not big on amazing camera, just decent. This seems like a decent mid range choice to go in on i would think?

    • +2

Can't really go wrong. You can upgrade the software through the EU community as they do regular stable and weekly updates. Sus them out. Xiaomi.eu I think it was.

Is this the best price around for this phone?

    • +1

      Correct.

      • Thanks

  • Is this dual Sim?

    • yes

  • Note that it has ois. Should make the camera decent

  • Thanks, Ordered. Should I get 1 unit ? or 2 units?

    • This is OzB so you get 10.

  • Maybe already asked, will it work fine here in Australia on 5G networks?

      Kimovil:
      5G= 4 of 5
      n78 (3500)
      n28a (700)
      n5 (850)
      n40 (2300

      *** N257 mmWave (28GHz) IS MISSING***

  • How would it compare in performance if compared with F4 GT (Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4 nm))

    • +1

It really depends on what you use your phone for, the SD870 is more than capable and should run most games with no issues. The GT is a gaming phone so if you game a lot on your phone, worth spending that extra hundred or two or better off considering the Nubia Redmagic or a the Black Shark phone.

  • This or OPPO Find x5 Lite…?

    • +1

Maybe for the camera? But that's about it.

  • Now showing $687.47 for me.

    • Yes they put up the price.

  • +2

Back available if anyone after it

  • This or the Motorola Edge 20 pro?

    • I went the poco for the 3.5mm jack and more active cfw scene. Let hope it was the correct choice.

      • Yes, I got this Poco F4, I hope it's the good choice.

      • Hmmm… F3 doesn't have 3.5mm jack, but comes with an adaptor. Are you sure the F4 has one?

      • F4 doesn't have a 3.5mm jack. It comes with a usb-c to 3.5mm adapter.

    • 100% Poco F4 which was released in mid-2022 while Motorola Edge 20 pro was released in mid-2021.

Poco F4 comes with better camera with OIS, stereo speakers and slightly better battery. It's guaranteed to receive Android 14 along with Miui 16.

  • Good timing, just ordered one. Any suggestions for a case?

    • No case for me, I will just use the one that is included.

  • Looks like the sale finished. Price went back upto $700~

  • Still waiting for the delivery date… Anyone else got delivered ?

    • "We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date." - maybe they oversold.

      • +1

The last time I tried to buy a Poco phone from Amazon UK, they made me wait 3 months and it never came. That's why I avoided this one.

        • Thanks for the info, sounds like they do this intentionally. Just cancelled my orders.

          • @donnsuil: Hmmmm I think I should cancel this order… It's been more than few weeks already…

  • Received the unit today, great packaging and awesome phone but crap, DOA. Now I need to go through the refund process.

Poco F5 or the Pro variant will be my target instead.

    • did you try charging it? thought mine was DOA too but needed to sit on charger for like 30 minutes till it would turn on

      • Perfect timing, was on my way to the post office then I saw your message. Thanks heaps and it's indeed all fine.
